The Badger Scandal | Save the Badger | Stop the Cull

Badgers are shy creatures. They are nocturnal and this is one of the reasons why most people have never seen one live. They are one of Britain's most ancient species, and we are now systematically wiping them out across the country under the cover of darkness.
Although a protected species, shooters can obtain licenses from Natural England as part of a licensed cull campaign that the government claims will help to eradicate a disease in cattle that has over the past decade or so been transmitted to wildlife reservoirs. Or so it is believed. And one of those wildlife reservoirs is the badger!
But what is the truth? And what does this mean for Britain's badgers and the habitats and ecosystems where they live?
The futility and injustice of a costly and widening indiscriminate slaughter of an iconic, mostly disease-free mammal. The cull is an unscientific massacre taking place.
Cattle-to-cattle transmission is far and away the main cause of bovine TB. The disease is essentially a respiratory one. Badgers and cattle rarely ever meet, so how can badgers (which spend 75 percent of their time underground) be infecting them? The cull is a scandal. Ineffective, costly, cruel, politically driven, and widely condemned as unscientific.
Thousands of healthy badgers which cannot possibly make any contribution whatsoever to the spread of bovine TB are being killed while the main cause --ineffective testing of cattle --continues, as it has for decades.
With this year's cull, it will take the total to over 200,000.

I have a badger sett in my field and they have never been a problem. BTB is almost always spread by cattle not badgers and badgers usually avoid cattle when they can. Literally any wild or domesticated animal can carry the virus yet they choose to lay the blame on badgers.

There's a man in Ventnor, Isle of Wight actually sealing badgers in their setts. They've been there for generations and he's recently come along, chopped down vegetation on the cliff supporting his house and blamed the badgers for the subsequent collapse of his land. No movement till he started messing with nature! Because he's got money and 'friends' he has a licence to make the badgers' lives hell. Disgusting. Land is below Hambrough Road if anyone is interested. Tell your council and complain any way you can...

it's the two legged badgers you have to worry about in the DEP and the NFU .TB testing is big business that keeps a lot of people in very well paid jobs that costs the taxpayers 150 million a year so they have to blame something so why not the poor badger .They are using the same testing system for the last 65 years and they are the same as the day they started .Farmers need a MR BATES to show up what is go on with TB testing the same as he did with the POST OFFICE

Surely those in charge would not use a dodgy test to enable an agenda? RIP Kari Mullis.

I know someone who went on a badger hunt with dogs. They said it was the most horrible thing they have ever seen and said it sounded like they were killing a human baby . They said they would never do it again

@@whitecloudmountainminnowpr6353 it's terrible that someone thinks it acceptable. I mean we know this government is a low life bunch of animals and poor people haters, but it shows the mentality of ordinary people.

Less intensive farming would be a good start. Won't happen with this government and Batters in charge of the NFU though.

Culling badgers is not cool at all -- predators need protection.

Should focus on culling non-native species like the 4 non-native deer species instead of going after our native species
