It appeared like all other memes on the channel. I just said something I thought sounded normal, mentioning my girlfriend, and then I got comments mentioning it. I realized how it looked: a grown man playing a kids game talking about his “girlfriend” and I thought that was funny if I just leaned into it. By the time I was getting married I still think there was some level of doubt that she existed haha

Jumpluff is a relic of its time. When different typings had different playstyles. When variety, status and other Grass-type trickS were seen as valid options intrinsic to the type rather than gimmicks while you wait for them to learn the standard STAB move a la Energy Ball, Petal Blizzard or the likes. When typings had personalities. I love Jumpluff. With synthesis, u-turn, sleep powder and bounce it trolled over all of Johto and Kanto in my first time ever in Johto, in HGSS back in 2009. Old times…

I am so sad Sunflora is so terrible. Sunkern’s adorableness and bad stats deserve much more upon evolution. In the style of Beldum or Magikarp or Ralts, it would be great if it evolved into something cracked (a Grass-type with huge stats). It would be extremely cool and flavorful to design a lame plant like Sunflora that happened to have some buffed stats. In the style of Azumarill’s gargantuan, unsuspected Attack or something

I dunno, Jumpluff is REALLY fun in Scarlet/Violet. you get Hoppip early and with some exploring you can get good TMs, plus forgetting and remembering moves on the go means you can tweak its moveset for whatever you need. I know Jumpluff is bad for speed running but its really fun to watch you have to use its unique move-pool. Its defensive stats plus its moves suggest that its intended to be used as a stall/support pokemon. I really enjoy runs where you have to get creative!

1:17:50 I agree with Rock for Jumpluff, but think Ice is better for Sunflora because of Growth. I slept on Ice for Jumpluff too! It definitely reduces the amount of Sleep Powders needed for Lance. One thing I did find interesting was going with Calcium over Carbos for Sunflora in order to outspeed Lance earlier, but the extra bulk is helpful for Karen. I also liked your moveset for Morty with Jumpluff's 1st playthrough!

Jumpluff wasn't meant to be a solo-running Pokemon or really a damage-dealer at all. If you understand how to use it, it's actually a REALLY GOOD Pokemon. just...it's a Support teammate. especially in later generations, it gets an absurd number of tools, and really all it needs is speed and its adequate bulk to pull off some really fun set-up strategies. Sunflora honestly outperformed my expectations. Sunkern, though, is a level 100 Double Team 1k reset Pokemon.

I’ve done solo runs many times before and one of the things I’ve learned and you’ve discussed is that playing Pokemon before others can give weaker Pokemon an advantage. When you get to Sunkern, you will be your most buff, ideal, and GSC-knowledgeable self to give it the best advantage… for a Sunkern.

So. That Zubat encounter with Jumpluff made me curious, about just *how* unlucky that is. So I did some (very) basic math. 30% flinch ×4 [0.3⁴] 50% confusion damage ×4 [0.5⁴] 25% Paralysis [0.25] Oh, but supersonic had to actually hit, too. And in Gen I & II, all non-damaging moves used by the AI have a 25% chance to fail. So... 75% chance for move to succeed [0.75] 55% chance for supersonic to hit [0.55] [0.3⁴]×[0.5⁴]×[0.25]×[0.75]×[0.55] Which equals... 0.0052% (rounded), approximately a 1 in 19,150 chance. What fun.

Also there’s the chance where you stay confused for 4 turns (the full duration).

  • @Flaming_Rok

    @Flaming_Rok

    20 күн бұрын

I don't believe that's quite how the math checks out. Taking into account of the AI having a 25% chance to fail a non-damaging move and Supersonic's accuracy, you're looking at around a 41.25% chance to hit, so let's use that as our base. Instead of taking each of these factors individually, you should instead think of it as "how likely is Jumpluff to move this turn". Paralysis has a 25% chance of making you miss your turn, and confusion has a 50% chance, so with these two factors, Jumpluff has a 37.5% chance to act, which means a 62.5% chance to NOT act (.5*.75 is your chance to move, so you invert that for the opposite). The next seven turns has Bite's 30% flinch chance added on to this, which makes the chance of Jumpluff acting a 26.25% chance, or a 73.75% chance of NOT acting. The final turn does not have confusion attached, so that turn "thankfully" has a 52.5% chance of Jumpluff being able to act, or a 47.5% chance of missing their turn. Supersonic Hitting*Parafusion*Parafusionflinch*Paraflinch = Probability (.4125)*(.625)*(.7375^7)*(.475) = ~0.0145, or about 1.45%, or a little above 1 in 100. Still unlikely for certain, but not nearly as astronomically unlucky as you propose it to be. As for the full turns of confusion...well that would be a bit harder to fully take into account, as I don't know how exactly it's calculated (is it determined how many turns you're confused for on confusion, or does it flip a coin to decide when you're free when you're in the 2-4 turn range). If it's the latter, we'd take into account that the two turns he got to try and burn the confusion chance failed, so those two turns are twice as unlikely, so the final probability of staying confused the full four turns with everything else is closer to ~0.36%, or a little above 1/280. If it's the former, then you just multiple the existing chance by 1/3, for ~0.48%, or about 1 in 208. And let's say you want to be REALLY generous and say "oh four of those turns were paraflinch only because they couldn't try and burn the confusion chance", then the above formula looks something like this: (.4125)*(.625)*(.7375)*(.475^4)*(.36875^2)*.475 = ~0.0625%, or around 1/1600 (The first turn was full parafusionflinch odds as you couldn't break out on that turn), which is significantly unluckier, but... Overall, no matter which way you look at it, while this battle was in fact quite unlucky, it is certainly not in the tens of thousands of magnitude you believe it is. also tl;dr didn't read or something for all the math nerds who don't care about this stuff

Another downside of blackout training on Morty would be the Mint Berry I think. Since if it was equipped for the 'training' fights it might get burned before you are KO'd, but if it's not equipped then it makes it even harder to fluke into a win if you do have a good Ghastly/Haunter phase.

Jumpluff should either be Dark (super effective vs. Morty), Flying (STAB + covers Koga in addition to hitting Morty) or maybe Ice, and Sunflora should definitely have Ice or another special HP over Rock. EDIT: I would be really curious if Hidden Power Flying or maybe Hidden Power Electric would help out Jumpluff! Another thought: Does Venusaur ever use Sunny Day against Jumpluff? If you could time Sunny Day against Blastoise or maybe use a set of Return / Sleep Powder / Sunny Day / Solar Beam, you could set up Sunny Day vs. Venusaur, put Blastoise to sleep once (75%) and then two hit with Solar Beam. Since they can't wake up turn one, that should mean Blastoise dies every time Sleep Powder goes off which at 75% is much more reliable. If you happen to look at comments this time around I would love to hear your thoughts on these options!

Hi Scott, wonderful video as always I really enjoyed it and it got me through the ladder end of my shift so thank you. I wanted to suggest a change for The because you had mentioned that it’s getting crowded towards the top. What if you added two more tiers/rearrange the lettering of the tiers, to include one for 1:25 and 1:35, you could easily do like smog on and have an A borderline and a B borderline; with the scattered results in the ANB tier between the times that they currently have I really feel like adding a tier between them. That is the intervals of five would be probably a good idea to show the real results. If I’m being honest, I’m sure you’ve thrown around the idea or heard this probably at least another hundred times, but I wanted to throw my hat into the ring and share my perspective. If you read this, thank you for taking the time to do so Scott. Best wishes to you and your family 😊

The Jumpluff line holds a special place in my heart because in Violet, I have found a frankly ridiculous number of random Shiny Hoppip, like, 3 or 4, across multiple save files, as well as a Shiny Skiploom. Most notably, on my first playthrough, I found one on Poco Path before the first Arven fight. I named her Holy because holy crap, I found a random Shiny super early in the game. (I was doing a bit of training because I was nuzlocking the game blind, so I didn't want to roll up to a fight unexpectedly underleveled and wipe. Which, incidentally, is exactly how I wiped against the second Arven fight at the end of Path of Legends. I came in with mons in the low 50s against his team in the low 60s. Holy was not on that team, because I had it stacked with setup sweepers that never got a chance to set up.) So anyway, I'm hoping Jumpluff wins. And I think they have a solid shot, since their low offenses won't be too much of an issue in this context, and Sunflora's low Speed will hold it back against fast Fire and Flying types. Karen's Houndoom, Lance's Aerodactyl and Charizard, and Red's Charizard particularly come to mind.

So I was mostly right for the first runthrough! I figured what would happen is that Jumpluff would stumble the entire time where Sunflora wouldn't, but late game Sunflora's low speed would start hitting WALLS where some fast mons would just one shot it for a dozen levels, while Jumpluff kept stumbling at the same speed. But in the end I just overestimated Jumpluff's atrocious movepool. I'm just too used to more modern movepools, I forget just how BAD some Pokemon's movepools were. I thought it'd at least get Mud-Slap so you could use it's Speed, Leech Seed, and Poison Powder if worse came to worse, but no Mud-slap means you just can't last.

Jumpluff for the playthroughs I've used it for how fast it is to sling out Sleep Powder and Leech Seed. Jumpluff usually doesn't have that many attack options. The one game I really got to take advantage of it's status moves is Coliseum when you're trying to catch Pokemon in double battles.

I think Hidden Power Flyin' might have been a better choice for Jumpluff thanks to the STAB bonus it would receive. Other than Morty I don't think there are any battles where Jumpy really NEEDS Hidden Power, anyway. Honestly, Hidden Power Dark is another viable option for it to keep perfect DVs and annihilate the various ghosts. Last possibility, and yes it's crazy, but Hidden Power Grass would give far earlier access to reliable Grass-type damage. Okay, forget I said anything. That is definitely too crazy!

It wasn't a power house by any means but I kept it all through the game up through Red and followed level caps. It was a good support pokemon. I think it went with mega drain later on and giga drain after Erica.

I don't have anything super insightful (other than Snubbull is a D-tier Pokemon :p) but I did want to mention something really funny. While Sunflora has never been particularly relevant competitively anywhere, Jumpluff actually did have one really cool shining moment in Gen V, where it had some success in lower tiers as a Swords Dance sweeper, using the interaction between Acrobatics and the Flying Gem along with Sleep Powder and its hidden ability in Infiltration. Acrobatics is one of those moves I really wish could be backported permanently into a game like Gen 2, it's one of my favorite moves of all time.

I like Sunflora and Jumpluff; I have a preference for slow heavy hitters like Sunflora (even if I still think it should have been the first Grass/Fire type) and I appreciate the sabotage and support role that Jumpluff takes. Neither are particularly great for solo runs, but I was happy to see Sunflora get the final result that it did here. Ultimately Grass to this day is probably one of my least favourite typings to use, even if I do enjoy Petal Dance as a move, just because I prefer straight forward sweepers to setup sweepers - but Sunflora is an underdog (or I guess overdog here) that I will always cheer for.
