THIS STORY:
The Axeman of New Orleans was an unidentified American serial killer active in New Orleans, Louisiana, and surrounding communities, from May 1918 to October 1919. He mainly targeted Italian immigrants and Italian-Americans.
The Axeman was never identified, and the murders remain unsolved.

THESE TOURS:
The Historic Cemeteries of New Orleans are historically and culturally distinctive in that they are an amalgam of the French, Spanish, and Caribbean historical influences on the city of New Orleans in addition to limitations resulting from the city's high water table. The cemeteries reflect the ethnic, religious, and socio-economic heritages of the city.
Architecturally, they are predominantly above ground tombs, family tombs, civic association tombs, and wall vaults, often in neo-classical design and laid out in regular patterns similar to city streets. They are at times referred to colloquially as “Cities of the Dead”, and some of the historic cemeteries are tourist destinations.

THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

I usually don't like unsolved cases, the fact that these monsters got away with killing ppl bothers me. Even when they find the killer 20-40 yrs later, that are still amongst the living. They basically lived most of their lives. Thank you for sharing this story, I did enjoy it, I always love the older stories. Ron, u did another great job thank u,& God Bless 🙏 My these ppl forever RIP.💐

Wow, I wonder why I've never heard of this until you covered it. How bizarre and awful this period must have been in that city! Just so creepy to imagine frightened people playing jazz and making music to deter a killer from visiting their home, especially since jazz is generally so fun and upbeat sounding! Ugh! Whoever this was, they must have really enjoyed the control they had over New Orleans. It was sinister, like the Ripper, claiming to be sent from hell and taunting people. I loved the jazz piece at the end and was pleased you stopped by one families ' tomb to pay respects. May all these victims rest in peace !

Wow that was quite a creepy story, especially knowing that this serial killer was never caught! One of the more amazing details was the night everyone played jazz, to appease the killer's demands! Pretty wild stuff, never heard about this before. Another top notch job Ron from start to finish. Loved that musical riff at the end playing along with the drone shots, so cool!

I never heard of him before. That is a very interesting story and I thank you for this touching video! This now seems to be a more macabre story, but since you pay respect to murder victims: will you one day do a documentary about Marc Dutroux victims? He was the literal boogey man in Belgium and Luxembourg. He kidnapped, raped and killed children and even buried some alive. His wife assisted him in his crimes. They imprisoned kids in selfmade dungeons and let them starve to death, refusing to tell police their location. He is a still living monster and I just wonder where the graves of the victims are.

Hey Ron, I wonder if, besides the water level thing, there is a cultural element of having those graves erected outside of the ground like this. Because, for once, this cemetery (like those you've visited in Louisiana) looks very much like ours. And Lousiana was first colonized by Frenchmen (hence the name which comes from the ling Louis XIV - yes, I like to pread the meager culture which is mine - sorry...). Amicalemenr, Bobby

I see some have mausoleum style on top on the majority but simply looking at the video of these step graves perplexes me...if everyone is supposed to be above ground ??? Maybe I need to go back to your last video at this cemetery and can find you answering that there ??? Back then. Thank you for all you do Sir

  • @FacesoftheForgotten

they are buried 2'-0" below the top of the soil, typically, so just about at the ground level surrounding the stepped plots, because the grave is raised, thus the term "stepped". stepped up. the water table is pretty much at the ground level, maybe below at many places, but not more than a foot or so. NOLA (New Orleans) is a sea level exactly. can't bury people underground.
