Your logic does not support the narrative here. The message being pushed is it is perfectly rational to fear all Muslims. They don't even bother qualifying people as Islamic Extremists any more. On the contrary, there has been a 'fatwa' order vs. Rushdie by Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran since 1989 and he was well aware of it. He let his guard down and this happened. He perfectly knew what he was dealing with, being an Indian Muslim himself.

@@s.t.santos5928 Rushdie lived in a safehouse for more than a decade after the fatwa was decreed. But in 1998, Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said that Iran no longer supported the fatwa. Rushdie moved to NYC and began to live a “normal” life. Even though he knew that there were many extreme fundamentalists who said they didn’t care that Kharami lifted the fatwa, they were still going to honor it. Of course their was still a bounty of a lot of money put up by private groups. The irony is that not one of these Muslims from day one of the publication of the Satanic Verses until today have ever read the book or even the passages. They followed the anger of Khomeni. Do you think they know that the book is a fantasy and satire? This proves how dangerous it is to live in a world where people believe blindly in the words of someone they admire or follow, to the point of committing violent acts. Don’t forget that after the book was published, “Many people connected to the book were also targeted, and several were injured. In July 1991, Hitoshi Igarashi, the novel’s Japanese translator, was stabbed to death and its Italian translator, Ettore Capriolo, was badly wounded. In October 1993, William Nygaard, the novel’s Norwegian publisher, was shot three times outside his home in Oslo and seriously injured.” We live in a world that has always been violent. Testosterone poisoning. Women should rule.

@@foxandscout Thank you for the add'l info. Yeah, I was aware of the lifting of the fatwa but it could just have been a ploy for Rushdie to let his guard down. Hard to know for certain. Having worked in the Middle East for almost a decade, I could almost understand the insanity behind this incident. Fast forward to present-day America. I can't help but think that the same mob rule mentality now grips the USA with its cancel culture and woke-ism in general. However, I can't figure out how violence could be solved by letting women "rule" in a society where many can't even define what a 'woman' is.

The reason why they employ extremism against criticism of Islam is because this approach works. People keep their mouths shut when they know that there'll be retaliation for their criticism. Bill Maher himself said in an episode a few years ago that he doesn't criticize Islam because he fears that someone would come after him if he does. And I think that the western practitioners of this religion called Wokeism have learnt from Islam and have been copying their extremist ways. You say anything the woke liberals don't like, and they'll come after you. Millions of people keep their mouths shut regarding wokes because they know that there'll be retaliation if they say anything the wokes find offensive. You might argue that Bill Maher and a handful others do criticize the woke, but imo it isn't making any difference. The woke are not changing their ways or their policies in response to Bill's criticism. In fact they completely ignore Bill and keep doing what they've been doing, without facing any resistance. People just cannot afford to resist/oppose the woke, not matter what they learnt against wokeism from Bill.

You don't want war with Islam. This was tried after 9/11, and it battered the US like nothing else. It's no coincidence that the US decline happened after the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Despite investing trillions of dollars, impoverished Muslims with lowgrade weapons kicked out the greatest military out of Afghanistan, has cornered that same military into 2-3 bases in Iraq, has pushed the once invincible Israeli army into defensive mode and unable and unwilling to get into a ground attack, and defended Syria's government from US-backed Saudi-funded proxies. The US has just come out of this war badly bruised. To enter into this war again, while Russia is fighting NATO and while China is about to replace the US economy, would be suicide. Not to mention that Muslims living in the West are 99% peaceful, even though they have lived through two decades of pressure and hate. They've seen decades of invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and Libya and Lebanon, they've seen bombs dropped on innocent people in Syria and Yemen, they've seen Gazans besieged for over a decade and the West Bank occupied, they've seen Iranians sanctioned and assassinated, they've seen enough. And they've seen the hand of the West deep in their blood. If they are attacked and demonised in another round, be sure they will radicalise in their millions, and you can be sure that given the social situation now in the West, with civil war in America a real possibility, and with Russia and China ready to fund any radicalised group in the West, it would destabilise the security of the West to the core.
