It's that time of year again when millions of Australians turn their minds to doing their tax returns. General work-related expenses are under watch. Each year, almost 9 million Australians claim about $22 billion dollars' worth of work-related expenses. Many of these claims relate to working from home. Almost 5 million Australians claimed work from home expenses last financial year, but the ATO has changed the methods you can use to claim tax deductions this financial year. Rental deductions on property claimed by landlords and income made by cryptocurrency investors are also under the spotlight. ABC business reporter Nassim Khadem talks to ATO Assistant Commissioner Tim Loh to find out more about the agency's focus areas, as well as top tips for lodging your tax return.
