More like 27 years...and counting. The Pirates did have their return to relevance when they finally put up a winning record and made the playoffs in 2013, but they still haven't won the division or returned to the NLCS since this moment.

I always feel like any discussion about baseball teams and their rosters of valuable players needs to be done with a giant, neon flashing asterisk, because there exists such a wide ocean of disparity in talent ball clubs are able to acquire based on how much money they have and want to spend. It's not a fair level playing field and skews the truth about a team's potential to win consistently.

Wasn't saying he "can't" have a tight strike zone, just commenting on the irony and bad luck for the Pirates that at least a couple of those balls in the Berryhill sequence may have been called strikes had McSherry still been behind the plate, so his illness may have contributed to the result.

I was 9 years old watching this game in the living room of our small house in Rome, Georgia with my mom, dad, twin brother and little brother. I will never forget how we all went crazy that night when Bream slid home and the ump threw up that safe sign. Things are much different now. My identical twin brother passed away two years ago, my little brother lives a few hours away and I don't get to see my parents nearly as much as I would like. But one thing I will always have is this memory.

The Pirates need to move to San Juan so they can be the Pirates of the Caribbean.

I know this is a joke, but I'll say this anyway. I like the idea of an MLB franchise in Puerto Rico, but the pirates don't deserve to be relocated. As much as I hate the other two Pittsburgh sports franchises, the Pirates have a dedicated fanbase that's just sick of losing and their moron owner. They need to stay in Pittsburgh

And there’s still the unexplored sideplots to consider: - Sid Bream’s multiple knee operations - Justice with an OF assist that prevented a third Pirates run - Kirk Gibson signing with the Pirates only to be released in April - Otis Nixon being in this postseason after missing the 91 postseason due to a drug suspension

Bonds makes a more on line throw to home, nails Sid Bream out, game goes to extras, Bonds hits go ahead HR, Pirates go to and win World Series, Bonds stays in Pittsburgh, never has to use steroids, and is in the Hall of Fame already..

I would love a Rewinder episode on 2011 World Series Game 6 (David Freese's HR in the 11th inning). The game was bonkers, being a very ugly, error-filled game early that turned into the greatest late inning drama game I have ever watched.

Jacob Johnston Imagine being an Indians fan like me, with everyone talking about the 2016 World Series. That loss in Game 7 upset me so much that I didn’t go to school that day, I laid in my bed bawling my eyes out, it is 3 years later, and the pain never ceases. I’m literally crying while writing this.

For SB Nation's "Weird Rules" series, you guys should do an episode on a game from this 1992 season (Sept. 27, 1992) between the Blue Jays and Yankees. With Jack Morris starting and the Jays up 9-0 in the top of the 5th, heavy rain started coming down, so the Jays tried to hurry up and get past the 5th, to make the game official, and give Morris his 20th win. The Jays batters were swinging at every pitch to make it happen, but Alfredo Griffin stole the show by striking out on a pitch WAY up and outside, it's literally the worst-looking strikeout in MLB history. In the end, Morris got his 20th win after a long rain delay. Still funny though...the video of Griffin's strikeout is somewhere on youtube.

I REMEMBER THAT GAME! That was so funny! Not only was the pitch WAY outside, the catcher couldn't catch it, and Griffin just wheeled on his heel and walked back to the dugout. If I remember correctly the umpire ordered Griffin to go to first. Griffin was put into the game to pinch hit specifically to strike out so no one whose career wasn't about to end would take the hit to their numbers.... if I remember correctly.

Another inning of baseball that's worth a rewind is the 2015 ALDS Texas vs. Toronto. I remember rushing home from work early thinking I missed the game only to begin to watch the seventh inning, the craziest inning I've every seen in all my life.

For more context, the reason why this moment is so incredible is because Sid Bream had extremely bad knees, thus making it super hard for him to run. The fact that he even went around third alone was a miracle, but beating the throw home is what made this moment legendary (and also skip carays call which was incredible)

I remember hearing about that. Van Slyke was interviewed several years ago about that. Given Bonds' attitude at that time, it honestly wouldn't shock me at all if it was true.

I might be biased since I was 5 and a huge Sox fan when it happened (and my dad was in his mid 30s and an even bigger Sox fan), but I feel like the bloody sock game is worth a rewind. Schilling’s performance, the glove hit by a-rod, the rioting in yankee stadium, the nypd coming on field, and the tight finish to push it to game 7 feels like a great episode waiting to happen! Keep up the great work, haven’t really been a sports fan in years but you guys are so awesome you help me feel that same energy I used to for sports. :)

As a lifelong pirates fan, this video hurt my soul. We literally weren't competitive for 20 years after Sid Bream. This loss didn't even happen in my lifetime and it still hurts cause of how bad the franchise is. With all the NL Central spending big and the pirates in the basement of salaries in the league they're probably not going to be relevant for a while. I personally wish that the divisions would be realigned and the pirates get put back in the NL East (not like that would make the pirates competitive or anything). Anyways, phenomenal video and phenomenal channel

as a resident of Pittsburgh and being not old enough to see this all I know is that I shouldn’t mention it around my parents. My mom and dad talk about this game like it’s 9/11, mentioning the exact place they were when this happened. My dad was at some internship while My mom was actually at this game and fully gave up on the team since. With the pirates finally looking to a bright future I actually got both of them to agree to watch a game this year after they won there 5th of 5 games so far. I haven’t been much of a fan of baseball but I’m just a fan of Pittsburgh sports in general so hopefully this can sow something.

I live for SB Nation baseball content.

I was there, 8th row behind the Pirates' dugout. After the 8th, people were streaming out of Fulton Co. Stadium. My friend and I stayed. It was the single most exciting sporting experience of my life (I'm now 51). After the lead-off double, people started trickling back in, just in case. I've never seen fans go so bananas. We all lingered yelling and screaming for at least 30 minutes. I'll never forget it. I also recall that Mark Lemke (Braves' 2nd baseman) said post game, "If you'd have told me Sid was gonna try and score from 2nd on a base hit I'd have told him to make sure he gets his knees up as he crosses the mound." Hahahaha! So hilarious.

I know everyone wants the 2011 WS where my Rangers chocked, but can you at least add the Nelson Cruz walk off grand slam. That was the best game I've ever been to and ball landed about 6 rows in front of us. Go Rangers!

I was 42, an RN, and working the evening shift. Only one of my patients had the playoffs on his tv so I'd drop in on him every so often to catch a few minutes (with invitation, of course.) So I happened to step into his room just a minute before (IMO) the greatest ending of a game in MLB history. Sid Bream was so damn slow it would take a miracle for him to beat the throw (after the game Skip Carey said his Indian name was "Thundering Herd") but he did and I went crazy. Of course they lost the WS against the Blue Jays, but this is still a great baseball memory.

I gave up watching bb until the '16 WS (Cubs-Indians was a winner either way) and gave up again afterwards. I like these YT videos though.

@@TheLocalLt Clemens should be in the HoF, before Bonds can get in, mainly because the issue with Bonds involves actual evidence of cheating, where as with Clemens it is all suppositions, but nothing concrete. In the end, these two are CLEARLY HoF-worthy, and they had the chops to get in, before the juiced era of baseball, started up... Put them both in!!!!!

SCep34life I know but when I say “in Pittsburgh” I really mean his whole career prior to 1999 when he began juicing. Which he only did because McGwire and Sosa stole the spotlight from him so he wanted to get on an even playing field with them. And he emerged on top as expected by breaking McGwires record

2006 NLCS Game 7 Mets powerhouse team that finally looked to have put it together. Cardinals team that was barely .500... Oliver Perez who had a 6.55 ERA that year pitching the game of his life. Endy Chavez miraculous catch. MVP candidate vs rookie with the bases loaded to decide who goes to the World Series. That game had so much.

I remember playing a random baseball game on the SNES as a kid and Pittsburgh was unfairly good
