This is my experience with Athens. My band shows up, the 40watt called me to play a gig. I asked for a guarantee, and they told me to fuck off. Ok? So don't kid yourself. The bars make money, the musicians do not, because the musicians don't unionize and ask for money when they play. The bars make money why shouldn't the entertainment. And yes Athens is the last vestige of the pay your dues to play the blues chitlin circuit. Glad I left.

It is because your band sucked and you were a crappy musician, happens all the time. Way too many great bands to count now out of Athens, they release their records independently, tour, sell merch and make a good living. The ones that suck, don't do anything and go away after a while, you are just one example. Don't hate the town because you sucked.

Right! One of my favorite numbers.

Urbosleeks was my band. And we broke up in Athens over the fact that we drew crouds but were not Getting paid. It was bullshit, I saw through it and left. Thank God I had some common sense.

Athens, where the musicians play for free and work as dishwashers. Glad I left. It's the last vestage of the pay to play chitlin circuit. So when you go to a show and pay a cover, that money ain't going to the bands.

Desperately trying to retain musical relevance decades after any significant bands came from there.

There’s nothing happening in Athens anymore after ReM and the B52s. There’s nothing going on. Name a Band that’s well known after them? I hear crickets! There’s nobody! The same goes for Seattle. After Nirvana. Zilch!

there are many underrated bands here and well known bands that deserve more recognition. From having the "i wanna move to athens to make a band" persona, Athens now has this hidden gem of indie/alt scene persona.

There are plenty of great bands, they just don't whore themselves out. You are typical type that can only skim the surface of things then talk smack because you were probably a crappy musician in a crappy band. Great things are not always shiny and happy.
