@@yhwh5568 it depends on what the ships are pressurised at, as something like the ISS isn’t pressurised very much, to the point where you could safely plug a hole with your finger for a little while. Instead of that movie trope deltaP, where people and aliens are sucked through tiny holes in the ships hull. The reason they explode is probably just visual aesthetics, or they are pressurised too high and the sudden loss on pressure causes gasses to turn to vapour, giving the purple-ish clouds.

why the continued? no clue, but when this video takes place in the timeline the federation had never fought any of these mobile suits before, they were taken completely off guard and were sent into an absolute panic over the carnage that even a single Zaku could dish out. before this the federations ships were mostly power projection, they never really fought anything with their ships yet. they were meant to intimidate and scare the colony's into doing what they were told. eventually as the war progressed both sides started re designing many of their ships to be less explody lol.

Visual target acquisition is the name of the game throughout most of UC Gundam, due to minovsky interference. Regardless of why though, would it even matter? The weaponry used in the UC timeline can skewer a battleship, does it really matter where the bridge is located?

@@AiriSenpai revil was in his transport ship trying to escape but was captured by the black tri stars when he was captured he was interrogated by a young zeon officer revil wasn't scared and he realized that zeon was tired, the reason why zeon is tired was operation british their mission was to gas a colony that doesn't want side with zeon and crushing the colonies into earth and then they attacked revil's fleet they succeeded but with a cost the death of all their most experienced pilots leaving them only young soldiers with no experience, the EF at that time never knew about this until revil gave his famous "zeon is tired" speech, he escaped with the help of zeon soldiers that were federation spies and they successfully rescued revil, if revil had died in operation british the federation would have surrendered and zeon would have conquered earth

@@AiriSenpai i have shorter version. general revil was in that transport. after this battle federation has split opinion about they should they keep fight on or sign a treaty with zeon. and later on revil will escape back to earth give give rally speech that motivate federation to chose to keep fighting, and win at the end.

I like this opening battle against Revil's fleet just to show how Mobile Suits totally changed the landscape of space warfare. At this point, the feddies still doesn't believe the powers of mobile suits (they also thought MS are just walking tanks) and confident that they could win with their overwhelming numbers. Mobile Suits possessed mobility of fighters while having higher firepower and durability as well as capable of close combat. Char's Zaku ii alone sinking 11 battleships shows how powerful Mobile Suits are.

It was literally a purpose built weapon. Hell, some fans debate that it could have probably take out the RX-78. Gets even worse when you read what most of the ballistic weapons were firing. AP purpose used APFSDS (armor piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot), which is pretty much the peak of current kinetic kill ordinance. Problem is, it relies on spalling and shrapnel to kill the targets crew, and not really the vehicle itself. Then there was HEAT, which relies on getting a clean hit to basically melt a hole in the target with its own armor. They can be beaten with chain link fencing. And for some reason known only to the lore bunnies, they also used HESH. Its probably the most unreliable thing man ever put into a gun. Basically, the front of the shell is explosive play-dough with a pressure detonator. Hit the target, explosive spreads out, detonates, and shatters parts of the hull to rip apart the soft fleshy things inside. It pretty much became outdated in the mid 70s, because any kind of layer armor basically renders it moot. Meanwhile, this thing is firing a shell that is without a doubt larger than the standard 105 and 120mm Zaku machine guns of this era. Its probably more in line with the 280mm bazookas. High velocity ap mixed with high velocity built in shrapnel in the form of its sub munitions? Yes. Only better ballistic weapon in the OYW era than that thing is probably the Hildofr's 30cm main gun, and that thing literally was bisecting Zaku's at over 2 dozen km range.

@@PorktatoesSSRB Went digging, it was in Mayfly of Space 2, a picture drama included with the 2016 Blu-rays. Going by the designs, I'm also pretty sure they are different guns. The barrel assemblies are completely different,, and the munitions are off, with the GP's firing solid AP rounds. I wanna say the GPO2 was using the same one from the Zudah? But it also doesn't match up design wise. Magazine slots in the bottom, not the top.

Much more impressive the first time than the others, when it shows exactly what an attack like that does to the hull.

When Origin was aired on Toonami, the scene with the bridge crew getting pureed was apparently edited out for some reason. It didn't really make sense, since later scenes, which were even more brutal, were shown intact.

To be fair, the Federation saw Mobile Suits as a cheap fad that'd quickly get phased out. Their point-defense was designed for the dated space fighters and the ilk. During the Battle of Loum you can see their CIWS struggling to keep up with Char and the Tri-Stars. Additionally, Zeon designed them specifically to counter Battleships.

It's pretty realistic by the way. Warships mostly have beam cannon, trying to pinpoint hit a mobile suit: given the distance, the speed the mobile suit is moving and without hitting an allie. It's near end impossible. I don't know if it's a close comparison but it's like a tank trying to hit a bird.

Gundam warships are more like mobile bases for mobile suits. Only the bigger ships with big guns can go in those side vs side battles. The gundam seed ship fights are more exciting and more war/tactic like. Even in a fantasy setting, why make huge carriers, gun ships and frigates if one mobile suit can take then out? It's really stupid. If one airplane could take out an aircraft carrier, we wouldn't be making them.

I honestly much prefer the firing sound of the first episode compared to the last episode's version.

Maybe it’s because its useing a different ammunition than the first one because remember the first one punctured armor then had a delayed fragmentation explosion that riddled the bridge with holes instead of out right blowing it away like the later ones do

Jesus, imagine you're just doing your job in the bridge of your spaceship, expecting a grueling ship-to-ship battle, only to witness your allied ships getting obliterated by flying humanoid giants. Suddenly, one of them appeared in front of your bridge's window, before you could realize what's happening, a giant bullet pierces the hull of the bridge. Said bullet explodes and it's shrapnel shreds you and all of the personnel on the bridge. Goddamn that's brutal.

I grew up a fan of Zeon but always hated the black tri star's. I'm glad they got it in the end. Had they survived i would hope they would have been tried and executed for war crimes alongside whoever ordered the colony gassing and drop.

ファーストは、ザクマシかザクバズ、サブはクラッカー、格闘はヒートホークだけですからね、オリジンはザクが装備できないはずの対艦ライフル？みたいな物を持ってますからね…、あとFS型やデザートの装備は地上用機ではないと装備できないはずなんですが、大型ヒートホーク等を見ると、おかしいなー、って思ってしまいますよね

@@amesupiiii 単純にAPHEじゃない？ 過貫通対策なら一枚目の装甲抜けた時点で弾が潰れるようにするでしょ。例を上げればホローポイント弾とかR.I.P弾とか。 加えて言うなら貫通してから炸裂してるから、もし仮に撃った目標が非装甲目標なら過貫通はしてた。

This was at a time where the feddies were so all-mighty, yet so new to space warfare that not a single one of their battleships had ever even been near a battlefield, and were designed accordingly. So, yes - that is basically what they were doing.

Imagine a Zaku I Sniper Type with one of these Btw you forgot the clip of the Gundam GP02A destroying a Salamis-0083 refit and a GM Kai in one shot from the anti-ship rifle

I like it when people complain why AA isn't killing anything despite the AA we've seen in Gundam being used by human and not machine so you're telling me that a human on a AA gun is supposed to know how to shoot something the speed of a Jet but fly in unpredictable patterns rather than a straight line. They can't use computer AA with the Minovsky particle being a thing where it jams many things to the point that radar and tracking is useless in a Minovsky particle area

A 3D style gundam. That’s interesting

This is actually a lot more realistic then most people would think. Space gives every advantage to a ballistic weapon and all you'd need to cripple any pressurized vessel is one good hole through the hull; the vacuum of space will easily do the rest. Really the only good defense in realistic space combat would be getting very VERY far away from your enemy and moving in as unpredictable of a manner as possible.

​@@tyaty If you are going a 100km/h to the right, so too is the bullet as it exits your gun. If your target is also moving 100km/h in the same direction, then unless they change their velocity or there is a medium to exert drag on your bullet, then the bullet will travel toward your target and intercept it. This is literally elementary Newtonian physics.

Watching this reminds me of the old "Legend of Galactic Heroes" series. A war between two human factions that cost the lives of 100M. Each time a ship blows up in space is more than 100-120 lives lost. Can you imagine losing 10k ships in a single battle?

I feel the need to point out that the first clip is inaccurate. The bridge shouldn't compress. They are in space, not the ocean.

With the advent of mobile suits, both the Earth Federation and Zeon forces should have concentrated on MS carriers and just escort vessels with huge amounts of AA batteries. Then they could put all those resources to making even more mobile suit than ineffective warships which are so easy to take out.

when you think of it, this type of mobile suit would fit nicely in the gundam mod for starsector, aside from the main issue with ships that have shields and those pesky captials that go into fortress mode the moment a UAF Recreational cheap thermal nuclear warheads comes hurdling towards the said fortress shielded capital ship. **ps i wish i were joking on that last part go to the starsector mod board and look at how folks were saying the nuke chucker is borderline broken unless you have a modded faction that's known for interdicting missiles "IE that one starwars mod i forgot its name"**

How effective are ships in the UC timeline? It seems since the massive appearance of MSs in Loum, ships are basically useless except carriers

with minovsky interference they are basically relegated to mid ~ close range as the particles interfere with almost everything except visual . MS really had the upperhand as shown during Battle of Loum and MS IGLOO's 1st episode where the long range canon jormungand was very much crippled without proper combat information from the frontline (The Vanishing Serpent of Loum) . The only effective use for them were to provide support fire and mobile base for MS /MA/ Mobile weapons for repairs and resupply. Musai also has a subship Komusai which can be used for earth re-entry or as an escape pod. Later on some Columbus class ships were used for setting up /supporting large scale weapons like the Solar System .

And this is why you have a point defense system

With a gun like this, I see no reason for using the 120mm MG short of destroying tanks.

why do soldiers use assault rifles instead of all using a sniper rifle? different situations and opponent's call for different weapons.

@@wither5673 This rifle is not a sniper rifle. It is more like a anti material rifle with the magazine, recoil and fire rate of a semi auto.

Lol that's bullet actually spread after entering enemy ship, yes you can target on cockpit ships the most weak point space ship

its all fun and games until someone makes and infantry held anti ship weapon, the davy crocket is already a thing which is a nuclear rocket launcher.

Watch this and mute all unpressurized outer-space scene and youll have a somewhat realistic space battle.

I can't help feel like the recoil on that thing is ridiculously low for such a long barrel. Even with the muzzle brake. I'd be very curious to know what kind of system it's supposed to have. What is the m16 of over sized mech weapons? :I

I think a full speed acceleration of the machine while shooting helps. Plus since the weapon is designed to be used by the Zaku, there could be built in compensation mechanics. Like when the suit knows its firing it momentarily increases acceleration.

Origin is a parallel universe aside, given that there is a need to puncture ships while beam weapons for MS is not yet a thing, specialized shells isn't out of the question

If the Zaku from GBO2 had this weapon, Id use it more often

1:01 I like how the Zaku looks startled by just its monoeye moving

You know it would have being less waste of ammo if they just aim for the ship's bridge, like how they did at the start, killing the entire crew and still have enough bullets to do the same to the other ships.

as I recall (and I may be mixing up anime here) most of the ships had secondary bridges that would allow them to continue fighting, if less effectively, assuming there was enough remaining crew and ship to do so.

@@zachelkins1229 Yeah, just like Carriers or warships. They have 2 command bridges for normal and low visible conditions. So the effective way is to blow up the entire munitions parts or fuel parts.

Why even bother with great big spaceship guns when little mobile suit guns do the job just as well?

I guess the only way is if UC era ships had Force Field Shields like Star Trek or Star Wars. Otherwise they are stationary target practice. And that rifle is overkill when a single Zaku Machinegun bullet to a glass bridge window...

Tbf, this is similar to poking a hole in the submarine at the deepest dept of the ocean. One shot and the vacuum of space will destroy everything.

Crumpling only occurs when there is a force being exerted on a rigid body from without, which would be impossible in a vacuum as there is no matter to exert said force. The closest earth-based example one could give would be a full soda can being punctured, it doesn't crumple, it doesn't explode, the contents simply escape at a rapid rate unless the hole is sealed. Now in the short term such a situation on a spaceship would have minimal effects to a suited-up crew as denoted in the clip, but would pose a long-term survival issue as one's oxygen tanks run low.

宇宙戦闘艦の装甲ってどんなもんなんかね。あくまで宇宙船だと考えると航空機の一種だから、破片炸裂によって加害半径を増やすことは制御系や気密構造を破壊することにおいて効果的だから、対人兵装ってわけじゃないんじゃないかな。

戦艦の徹甲弾は基本炸薬入だったし、戦車砲弾も初期の装甲が薄い目標に対してなら炸薬入りの砲弾使ってたし、現代でもソフトターゲット用に化学エネルギー弾あるし、別に対人用ってわけじゃないと思う。

Dose this rifle have 2 different ammunitions cuz the one at the beginning looked like a armor piercing round with a timed fragmentation explosive but the rest just exploded on impact with no shrapnel

These rifles look like they can punch holes against Luna titanium. I hope they make an mg zaku origin just to get these in 1/100 scale.

Anime: Mobile Suit Gundam : The Origin 1 episode 1

It’s like a space battle rifle! like a gigantic 50cal or FN FAL (i say that rifle because my husband owns one and it’s to big for me to shoot).

Now, I despise anime, don’t get me wrong, but shit like this? This is good. I get to see their technology in action, it serves a clear, concise function, and it makes total sense to me. An armor piercing round that penetrates its target and explodes into fragments once it reaches its targets innermost components. Whoever made it clearly knew what they were doing, it’s not some ridiculous and gaudy display of power, it’s a weapon, and nothing more. Nothing special about it save for the fact that it’s a damn fine piece of military hardware. I wish more anime would embrace things like that.
