The Artists Way - My 12 Week Journey

Ойын-сауық

The Artists Way is a self-help book by American author Julia Cameron. The book is described as a "A Spiritual Path To Higher Creativity". I tried it.... and I honestly can say that I have never experienced a more transformational 12 weeks than what I have just had.
Do I recommend it... YES! But if you are not sure check out my journey.

Thank you so much for making this video! You have helped me move forward. I bought the book last week, after years of being told about it from various friends, and finally a big push from my therapist-friend. Safe to say that I think (know) this book could change my life. It is perfect timing, with the continued pandemic crisis and despite my procrastinating by watching your video instead of actually DOING the work! I think you’re right about that contract. I’m signing it tomorrow, and officially beginning, instead of just “playing” with it (my m.o. in life, apparently - which I hope to shape better, via this journey). Many thanks from Texas, Dear Sir! 🌟☺️

Crazy! This book called me too. I was going through my moms bookshelf for some reading material about 5 years ago. She had a bunch of books on meditation, Feng Shui, and stuff along those lines. I stumbled upon this book and thought "huh! Cool title, I'll read this eventually". FF to this year, 2020. I got into Meyers Briggs type indicators. I found out I was an ENFP! So I began doing a bunch of research, and on a podcast they said "There is no other book I would recommend to an ENFP than The Artists Way by Julia Cameron". I froze. I walked over to my book shelf and it was like the book was singing to me. Just started reading it!

So, at about the 12 minute mark with you sitting on the beach, I had to stop the video and write this (without even hearing what you said, yet). What I viewed through my computer screen was a completely different person -- truly! Your face and spirit seemed lighter, brighter, vulnerable in a sense. All of this through my screen, so I can only imagine your higher vibration in person. Way to go.... Now, I am going to turn the video back on and see how this ends....not that I need to. By the way, starting my journey next week.... thanks for sharing!

What an amazing, inspring video this is. I am sure I will watch it again. I've felt stuck for a very, very, very long time. I actually found this book (or it found me?) several years ago. I bought it and stuck it away without ever reading it. I took it out a few months ago and tried the morning pages for one day and gave up. The entire time I was writing, I was thinking "this is a waste of time" and focused on how I was having a hard time gripping the pen. Part of the problem was I started the morning pages without reading the book! You inspired me to take it out and try again. I have to because I am near rock bottom right now. Thank you for this video.

First time I did morning pages something similar happened to me and I completely put off the course for a couple months. Lots of intense, dark feelings aimed at specific people I hadn't even thought of in forever spilled out of me, and it was interesting to pin point the source of those volatile feelings beyond the people that made me feel that way. Was a really great exercise in figuring out the things that get locked away in the unconscious and to deal with them consciously; even since just that one attempt a lot has changed inside of me. Going to give it another shot next week, using this video as more motivation to prove that it works. Glad to see it worked for you!

Yea if you let it, it really digs up some things. As you pointed out it is a great practice for turning subconscious to conscious and effectively working through it. Its great to hear you are giving it another go. The whole artist's way can be tedious at times but I know it benefited me. At the very least maybe the pages are a great tool to continue to clear the water :) thanks for watching and commenting. I did this course between the end of 2020 and the start of 2021. I got to week 10 and stopped for whatever reason. Today I picked it back up and I did my morning pages. I come onto my 2nd yt account to search for some stuff I don't want to clog up my main account with and this video pops up on my timeline. Looking back at my history I guess I did research the book a little on this account, back in October. Still, a little serendipitous and I think this is some kind of sign that I'm back on the right path. A sign from who? Just a pattern in chaos I reckon.

I just started it yesterday after “not buying it” for about a year. Then I re-read Jenna Fischer’s book and read about her love for the workbook and so (after not reading it for yet another few months lol), I finally started it for real. Fingers crossed! As a frustrated healthcare worker, but wanna be creative, it’s nice knowing that this helped you so much. I took myself on an artist date last week without knowing that’s what it was. I went on an audition for the first time since college and had the most fun I’ve had in years, just by being creative in a way that I haven’t been allowed to be for so long. I want that feeling again!

I love The Artist's Way. It's super cool that you vlogged your journey. One part of this that I agree with completely, is that most of us tell ourselves we can't "find someone' while also being at our most creative. Maybe that's not true, but tbh it def feels true for me and has held true in my life. Some people can juggle romantic relationships and creative endeavors, but a lot of artists do "give ourselves" to the work in a way that makes it difficult to nurture a new relationship at the same time. But things like Morning Pages do help! Good luck on yr journey

I started listening and paying attention to your video, at minute 3 I just bought the book, (In spanish), It seems that there's a way to go... Your video and personality it feels really honest, to the point that makes me think we could be friends. So first of all I like to thank you for sharing this part of your life, and make me aware..., in a way I am, but sometimes we get kind of stuck... we need to find our tracks and returns to the basics... I think. Hope to see you around. And by the way, if you like, you have a friend in Mexico city now. Keep up the good work.

@@mrfrosaliI just bought the book a few weeks ago, trying to read the book on my free time at 9pm with the new changes in our lives given the corona here in Australia Northern Rivers NSW. I started my journaling last night as that's my free time. Looking forward to continuing the book and hopefully coming out of the cocoon of a state the country and greater world has been going through. I'm hoping you're well wherever you are now ✨🦋

@@Fae595 thanks so much for sharing! I am so glad to hear that you are getting into it. I actually think while we are all indoors it is a great time to start the book and reset. What is stopping you from doing the morning pages as your first thing in the morning? (Totally understand if afternoon is better, i just know that doing that as my first activity was almost essential for me personally).

Hey! I think the accountability of the vlog helped.. but more than that I had a few friends that said the process changed their lives. So although there are bits that lag and are a bit dull, I figured I owed it to myself to stick with it no matter what. Give it a chance. It was very worth it in the end.

I think you've got to ask yourself why you stopped? And then when you're really honest with yourself, you'll reaslise whatever reason you came up with, it was just a way to block yourself. We always avoid the things we need to do the most.
