The Art of Slow Christian Living I Traditional Homemaking

Living a Slow Christian Lifestyle Blog Post: faithfulacresfarmhouse.com/20...
I am so excited to introduce a new series I have been asked about, one about my lifestyle. I honestly don't feel my family lives a "unique" or "special" lifestyle, but I am slowly realizing how we secular many households have become, especially with technology. I pray that in my video you hear the Word of God, and really look into the way you are living.

    I am so late to the game. I am 33 just discovered God and living in a country where homeschooling is not allowed. My oldest is already 9 and doesn’t understand the change in me, doesn’t want to hear about God or Bible. My younger two are 4 and 1 so I need to take action right away. At least I am SAHM and wife and doing my chores proudly and well to please our heavenly Father 🙏

    How wonderful! Give it time. St. Augustine's mother, Monica, followed him around as an adult praying for him and it took years for him to come to the faitb. Your 9 year may not understand now, but don't give up or lose hope. You're doing awesome. ❤️ Sometimes, it just takes time.

    very beautifully stated. We honor most of these too. This is beautiful if both spouses are on the same page, faith wise. This can be a struggle in our home as my husband does not share many of these ideals - often we are in agreement about the "rule", but not the intention behind it. This is why it is so important to make sure you are yoking yourself to a believer. knowing what I know now, as an older woman, I would have completely removed tv from my kids' lives. it was never a huge focus in our home, as I was raised in home without a tv-centered mindset. But even the little bit we DID allow them to watch, I would not do again. I would often think they were watching something that was ok, but hear astounding things! this happened a couple of times when going to the movies - I would be taken by surprise by something in CHILDREN'S movie that would make me cringe. We stopped going to the movies all together after zootopia. Another thing i wish I could do is 'less toys'. We didn't buy many, but we seemed to get everyone else' clean outs & birthday parties, I would not do them again either. It fed into a lot of consumerism in our early years that caused discontent. WE root ourselves in the seasonal cycle of farm life & weather - "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven" And we take time to visit with our neighbors/friends/family - focusing more on the people that live within arm's reach than those we only see once in awhile or live very far away. We forbade our kids from having cell phones until they could pay for them (18 for our older daughter & 17 for our younger) and NO tik tok, facebook, instagram, etc....are allowed in the house. And we inspired our kids to cultivate HOBBIES! So many kids these days lack meaningful hobbies like sewing, drawing, writing, reading, hunting/fishing, etc...

    I struggle with wanting to please the lord, but having a struggle loving family members while trying to be Christian. I come from an abusive childhood, physical, mental, verbal. My childhood was very dysfunctional. I carry so much sadness heartache and baggage into my adult life. My mother pretty much abandoned my brother and I as kids, choosing a very deceitful, wicked life over her children. Raised by our grandparents, we grew up with love , caring, joyus and faithful extended family. My mom barely spoke to us or other family members and we basically grew up without her in our lives. Every time I tried to have a relationship with her, it was toxic , damaging and unhealthy. Now she is in later years and I struggle to want to love and accept this person into my life . hundreds of times in my life I have tried to be her daughter, but because of the estrangement, her lack of mothering, and her evil ways, I cannot feel closeness, love or even any connection whatsoever to her. How does God view this. I struggle with this my entire life. What do I do . does God want me to be continually hurt and abused by this person.? I want to serve God and live by his principles, but how do I do that when I feel no love or connection to a heartless, abusive , evil parent.

    I can't speak for God, but I do know He tells us to forgive. I'm so sorry you have gone through such a traumatic childhood, and so much continued hurt. Not that you have to answer me, rather yourself, is she sorry? Does she want a relationship with you now and wants to be different? It is so SO much easier said than done, but just continue to pray God will give your heart peace and soften it enough to where you are able to forgive. On the other side, you by no means have to continue to have a relationship with her, or "be her daughter". Set boundaries if boundaries need set, and protect yourself and your family. We are called to forgive, but you have no spiritual obligation (in my opinion) to continue to have a relationship with her if she isn't a safe person. And if she doesn't help your spiritual journey, I would continue to live as Christ lived (the best you can), be an example for her, and just let it be. There are natural consequences for our sinful actions. This could be one of hers. I will pray for you. I'm sure this is very difficult.

    Thank you very much for these helpful rules. I'd be interested to hear a little bit more about how you combine the principle of separation from government (you said you don't put your trust in it) and this Bible verse: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God." Romans 13:1 Because my husband and I often have arguments about our Ukrainian government, and I'm already starting to think about how to teach my daughter about this topic in the context of biblical principles.

  • @faithfulacresfarmhouse

    @faithfulacresfarmhouse

    Ай бұрын

    Yes! That is a great question. We believe that we are called to be subject and follow authority, unless it causes you to sin (as with anything). We follow laws, accept decisions (even when we don't agree), but what I was saying specifically is if I'm told "$ amount of tax dollars are going to ...." or "them telling us this pesticide is safe" (just examples), we are not going to just trust them and take every word as truth. I believe there is a lot of corruption. I can respect and follow the laws set, but I don't have to believe everything they say to media or for votes. Does that makes sense? It's hard when teaching children. We are still called to keep the governmental laws and pay taxes, but we don't have to agree with everything said and every law they want to pass.

    I use the Word on Fire Bible and, which does have commentary throughout, but not for every chapter and verse. I also use the Ascension Bible App, which includes commentary on certain teachings and verses, but no, I don't read Scripture and directly look for commentary on what I read. In my personal opinion (take with a grain of salt), read and let the Holy Spirit move within you, and if you get stuck or are confused, seek commentary. You could also read the chapter or book first, then go back through with commentary.
