Great story! "30 year cease fire"... He understands that, in time, Humanity will come after them (especially if he destroyed the ship yard and its civilians).

Translation: We fought them when they were weak and unprepared and they still made us bleed so bad that fighting on was pointless. We won. A pyrrhic victory. That's no victory at all. Now? They'll have thirty years to prepare. I am glad I am retired, for I will not deal with the monster humanity will be able to conjure by the end of that time.

Galactic Tactics - A Single battle to decide the stronger force, the weaker force retreating with minimal losses. Human Tactics - Make them suffer losses so bad that they will NEVER want to fight us again.

Humanity spent most of it's time to fight against the most vicious, most tenacious and most ingenious enemy it could find on it's home planet, even before it left Earth. This enemy was none other, than itself. Which means that all disgusting little tricks and grandiose plans, strategic marvel or monstrous weaponry, what one side could use... The other was capable to use as well. So they had to make countermeasures to those. And new weapons, and plans, if the enemy has those countermeasures as well, against which they also needed to find a way to defend themselves, leading a neverending cycle. When your worst enemy is "yourself", you simply cannot be "good enough".

The correct name is "Quintus Fabius Maximus". Hannibal learnt the hard way, how effective that strategy is.

Not from Fabius, though. He knew he had to just wait until Fabius lost his dictatorship.

Awesome, with a little "re-jigging", this could be the preface to a novel, (even a series of) outlining the history of the wars, the ramifications and outcomes of...

Yes, it's so irritatingly cowardly of your enemy to decide that squaring up and losing would be a dumb move, isn't it? Almost like they've realized that if they don't just let you win they might have a chance of winning themselves...

I really like listening to these stories. I have a question, what AI voice / service do you use. I am a writer myself and I would like to use AI to voice over. I like the voices you use so I am just curious. Thank you for your help!

But the humans lost. The aliens had lost so much they decided they couldn't afford a repeat with another force using the same tactics. But the aliens got the cluster I presume although the story doesn't say so.

I imagine it was agreed that the cluster would remain neutral and become a buffer zone, Humanity would revoke their claim, but the aliens wouldn’t move in, as Humanity wouldn’t stand for that and keep fighting if the aliens tried. So a demilitarised buffer zone is the best outcome, as at that stage, Humanity didn’t have the military capability to fight the aliens toe to toe, but could certainly continue with their scorched space tactics, something the aliens would NOT be eager for, especially considering that their ONLY military victory was the definition of a Pyrrhic Victory (one so costly that even the guy whom the term is named after is quoted as saying, “a few more victories like that and we won’t be able to fight the Romans any longer” ).

It sounds like the aliens got the cluster, but if they destroyed that spaceport full of civilians I'd bet the humans have a plan to take it back and then some...

Did the humans lose though. They might have lost a battle and a system but certainly not a campaign Look at Star Trek and the establishment of the Klingon and Romulan Neutral Zones especially the Romulan Neutral Zone after the Romulans got butt handed. The Cardassian DMZ and look where that went. Look at Grand Admiral Thrawn: some days you take the loss as you were, then spend the time regrouping, strategizing, building, then come out maximum guns blazing so hard the opposition wished it never did what it did earlier in history. Hell, look between WWI and WWII and a very vengeful Germany. Humans have a way of either making you pay for every inch of ground they concede in your blood, OR making you pay for every inch of ground they concede, back off, rebuild, then come screaming back 10 fold to the point you wished you were never born. And I say after 30 years humans are going to do one of two things: 1) Come in with wings and wings of Carrier fleets 2) Go screw you, and Death Star it right out (aka super weapons) Actually a third came to mind Balkanisation of the opposing empire

@@Palpatine001 I agree, humans have a tendency to give ground only to come back stronger (Operation Barbarossa anyone?), but considering the human’s capabilities in this story, we’re talking potentially decades, perhaps even CENTURIES before they’ve caught up, and considering the lessons the aliens learned before the ceasefire, I very much doubt they’d rest on their laurels, the fighting before the ceasefire was enough of a wakeup call to make the aliens seriously reconsider their military doctrine. In short, by the time the humans are ready, the aliens would be well prepared as well, easier to just let the ceasefire stand than rock the boat.

Now tell us how murder by gunshot being the leading cause of death of children is freedom. We 8 billion humans who have kids return home from school without bullet wounds really enjoy Th at one. It's so nice you Americans point out how terrible your nation is and are some how proud of the horror.
