Introduction to the history of Minhwa (Korean folk art; literally means "painting of the people") and the significance and meaning of symbols such as flowers, tigers, and books. Minhwa artist Kate Nam will demonstrate painting a peony and share some of the Minhwa work featured in Korean TV dramas.

Kate has been a Minhwa artist for 12 years. Her passion has been applying Korean art to daily living and introducing those to Western culture. For more than 10 years, she built her career around lifestyle products as CEO of Royal Copenhagen and Georg Jensen in Korea. She learned the importance of storytelling through art and their practical use in daily life.
Kate was president of RAAM partners, which seeks to promote Korean cultural artifacts such as Minhwa in the U.S. Recent accomplishments include “Happiness @ home” Minhwa exhibition at the Korean Consulate General in San Francisco, and “Asian Heritage Month” exhibition at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 2018. Kate currently lives in the Bay Area and actively works on transforming Minhwa through digital technology.
