The last guy is the brake man, but he doesn't do anything until over the finish line. They are just there for the speed at the start and for ballast I think. Although I think they lean into corners as a group but it's mainly all about the driver
@yankees29

They can affect the speed of the sled. They have to stay low and centered or they can throw off the person steering the sled.

This seems like a sport that u dont really control your performance and it seems odd that some teams win when the whole sport seems to be highly dependant on luck, i might not know something but as far as im concerned there is less skill then luck involved.

@@bigazzun3472 if you are familiar in speedrunning, or f1 racing, bobsled is pretty much the same. Evrything is calculated in the professional level. How long do they have to run, how many steps till they get in. And once in the sled, the driver pretty much gors through the most effecient route with as minimal time loss as possible.

@@bigazzun3472 Umm....so difficult to respond to this. I don't know what your experience or knowledge of sports is, but usually participants are of slightly differing ability (very, very, minor at the highest echelons), which tends to result in some winning competitions and some not. There are usually some other factors at play - weather, for example, where sports are played outdoors, or the conditions (I'm watching the women's curling final and the commentator is talking about the surface finish of the ice) - but the skill of those at the top of their game will help to minimise the impact of these. Hope this is helpful.

Can someone tell me what is the skill needed to ride the sleigh ?? It seems thst the only thing to win this sport is you just need to have a great speed at fist and pray that your team is faster that other... Whos agree with me.... I think that this is the least skill sport needed....
@TokyoBalletReprise
6 жыл бұрын
FizFariz Gaming At first you must sprint (some bobsleigh athletes could compete in track and field, one of the most known one is faster in 40m then Usain Bolt), then you have to enter inside the sleigh with your teammates at the same time or approximately the same time and then the front man steers on the turns whom can sometimes be very sharp and at the end the person in the back must break.
@AussieGunzel
2 жыл бұрын
You must be fast and heavy, fast for the push and weight for the gravity down the hill
The driver steers very little, the brake man only brakes at the end, and the two guys in the middle don't seem to do anything. Hate me for saying it, but it's hard to call this a skill sport.
@noicenuggets6993

TenTonNuke it takes a lot more skill than you think. This might sound weird but it’s like baseball. A great hitter can read the pitch and know where to put the bat, so he can make contact. The ball is moving so fast that reaction just doesn’t work all the time. Bobsledding works the same way. Sled is going so fast that you must feel or predict what’s next in a split second. That my friend takes skill.

Wind back and take a look at the legs on these guys. Most of them are ex football players and track sprinters. That's an 800 pound sled. Shame is that Steve Holcomb was far and away the best driver in the world, and you'd be shocked at how big of a gap there is in skill for drivers. He passed away a few years back and our team has never been the same. It definitely doesn't look that hard from a distance but you bet it's a feat of athleticism to push and pilot these puppies.
