"It's the punctuation mark in a strategy of eliminating movement options from your opponent." - One of the most profound things I've ever heard on KZread.
This video is so good that 8 years later it’s probably one of the best I’ve seen about arm locks

yes. Good idea the slow motion. No lost of time with useless introductions. It's even aesthetic with its white and black images and the music. And old that for free.
Watched this video multiple times, visualized, went to class and got my first white belt armbar. I love these videos - thank you for such a comprehensive video!

That’s awesome
one thing i like about this guy is he keeps it real and represents the aiki/japanese jujitsu side as well. its a very effective method yet due to the majority of teachers being worthless turds it gets dismissed as ineffective. keep up the good work Roy! Much respect!

Thank you, Dick Fitzwell.
Thank you very much for the series "from white belt to black belt", I really like it. Can you make one about chokes?

Yes that would be nice. Transitions towards different kind of chokes. Great suggestions brother!! Thanks.
Thank you Professor..I’m a white belt 2 stripes..I admire your passion and philosophy of jujitsu..I always watch your videos and want to low just like you sir.🙏🏼🥋
This video is incredible quality in all senses: explanation, information, philosophy, presentation... Amazing. Thank you!!!

These vids are really cool. I love the analytics.
beautiful transition series. Please keep them coming! :)
extremely high quality in delivery, thanks for creating and posting these videos!
So much info in one single video. This is pure gold. Thank you Sensei for your time.
This is such a brilliant series. Thank you for creating these.
These videos are helping me big time, thanks.
Absolutely beautiful!!! The evolution of the armbar from white to black. WOW
I am so happy i stumble onto this channel. I am on a Roy Dean watchathon...
Wow, amazing value. Thanks Roy
2 months into training- this just blew my mind. Thank you for putting this content out
one of the greatest vids i have ever seen, amazing commentary and so easy to understand.... absolute masterpiece!
Perfect video. Your way to share your vision is fantastic, congrats from Brazil
Excellent video. I love these options especially learning how to roll under after getting stacked. As a lower belt I've found myself in that position and had no choice but to release the lock and get passed.
Thanks for taking your time to open my eyes...awesome video
Coach Dean. thank you. This is brilliant.
I love the insight he gives that goes beyond the basic mechanics of the arm lock. instruction on transition and setup is very important too. thanks!
I find this way more useful than 90% of BJJ videos. Because I can find exactly where I'm at and see the next steps to work on something different. More white-belt-to-back-belt progressions please!
Thanks for sharing Roy. As an ex-Aikido person myself I love BJJ and you have a nice grace about you which has flowed into your BJJ.
a perfect storm of detailed information.. 👏 bravo!
Man I really love this channel 💯💯💯 always wanted to approach BJJ understanding the “mindset “ rather than just the movements, and this video is what I’ve been asking for.
One of the best videos that i ever seen ,respect from Brasil
Fantastic vid!
Another great video! I performed my first arm lock(s) this morning and saw a few examples in this that I did. Talk about exciting! I did notice that Roy's belt stayed white the entire video 😉
Great vid Roy.

"....as your belt darkens....." hahaha
@hyungtaecf

Actually, it is the real history of the colored belts. In Asia, they used to have just one belt. They started with the white belt and because of the dirt of training often and never washing that belt, it darkens. So they knew the experience of martial artists from how dark the belt was.
This video represents real teaching. Such a pleasure to witness brilliant instruction.
super good video, even 11 years later its still taught me so many things as a white belt.
This is the best explanation of belting i have EVER heard
20 years of blood and tears encapsulated in one video. Thank you.
This is one of the most amazing BJJ videos. So much learning packed into so little time. Unbelievable.
Amazing video. Greatly put action into words. Well done
hits the nail on the head when he says it becomes "a part of you", that the technique isnt separate from you, it is you, perfect explanation :)
Holy crap, this is a really cool video! Great work!
Beautiful !
His instruction and teaching is second to none in BJJ. A true master is not a martial artist who can just fight but also teach it at it's most basic AND most sophisticated level. He can hurt and heal you through his art. Beautiful. I love his dvd's because they are the few dvd's i have actually learned from and taken directly from. A welcome relief from the wanna be neo-warriors of bad haircuts, bad tattoos, and pseudo tough guy attitudes. PURE EXCELLENCE!
awesome vid once again!
This video is 8 years old and I can't find anything more understandable and many amazing things that I have seen(previous I've also watch the many variations of triangle choke)
Brilliant video 👍
Too good! Thanks Roy you legend
Absolutely fantastic video
You sir are a wizard!
God bless you Roy dean !!! You gave the seed of inspiration, now is time for me to water thanks bro!!!
He makes me love bjj more than I already do
This is one of my fav i aerm to mess up in my position .thanks for posting video on it .it makes alot more sense now and in BJJ im learning new ways to move
Fantastic. High level instruction that shows the development of how one flows. Chasing a grab bag of techniques alone will only get you so far.
amazing, very best posicions!
Beautifull video as allways
so enlightening. perfect.
I highly recommend to anyone interested in any of the jujutsu-based arts (Aikido, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Japanese jujutsu, Judo) that they get White Belt Bible. I threw it in the player and could not stop watching. It is truly amazing. Do not let the title fool you, it is for everyone.
Love the way you teach.
I love these videos
Sooooo much good info 🤩
your videos motivate me BIG TIME!!!!! TIME TO TRAIN!!!!
U sir are the best teacher!! Wish i can meet and learn from u one day
A lot of videos seem to copy Roy Dean, he is a good teacher, my favorite on youtube for BJJ at the moment
I think all of Roy Deans videos are amazing a true scholar if BJJ. .Would love you to come to the UK to do a couple of seminars. .
great vid.
Love this video!
Excellent video!💯 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Osss!
I have always been taught (by at least 3 different BJJ instructors) that when you are going for the perpendicular arm bar, you need to maintain control of the arm that you want to attack. I have always had a difficult time executing this technique with this rule. This video introduces a simple, yet brilliant point. Place your hands on your opponents chest to "push yourself up AND THEN (once you are in position) execute the arm bar. Awesome!
Excellent video. Excellent Narration. Excellent Execution. Well Done!
awesome thanks mate respect from New Zealand
amazing vid, very inspiring... thanks mr. dean :)
very nice Roy thank for the overview !!!!
Kudos to your videos, allows my back ground in Yoga to see a similarity. Sometimes in as basic as the path to knowing ones self, in other ways to discover what the body can do. Thank you sir for your relatable videos, Namaste'
Amazing! Tanks for your vídeo.
I watch this every morning.
Eye-opening video. Awesome.
