I have friends that are deep into some of these conspiracies, it's literally pushing our friendships apart, the one thing I hate about these half assed "theories" is that they all offer the problem, never the solution, always ask questions, never give logical answers, and the one thing in common with my friends is that they take their information strictly from youtube and shady websites that claim dodgy information

I think it's amazing how superstitious people claim to be "woke" and accuse others of being gullible, all while lining the pockets of crackpots like David Icke and Corey Goode. In another video, many people claim that the film They Live is being suppressed by the "powers that be" because it reveals the Truth about real lizard aliens ruling the world. Even though John Carpenter said the film's a blatant critique of unchecked Capitalism, and it is in wide release on Blu-Ray and via various digital/streaming outlets- you know, the opposite of being suppressed. Yes, some conspiracies do exist: For example, Carl Bernstein uncovered Project Mockingbird in the 70's, which detailed how the government was influencing journalists in the media. You know who will never uncover these things? Among many others: Flat-Earthers, people looking for Bigfoot footprints, and people who claim pixel-distorted videos are proof of lizard shape-shifting. It's interesting that there are those who mislead and draw profit from this crop of people who claim to be immune to such influence. But don't take my word for it, after all I'm likely just a government shill or a reptilian alien working for Gorzak the Great. (All hail Gorzak! All meet at Applebees across the street from the Decoupage Den for a Gorzak lunch meeting this weekend! All stay for the trivia contest! )

The video makes sense. Why there is so much hate in the comments? Human mind likes connections. If it can't find one, it will make one. Conspiracy theories are sometimes very hard to overturn because there is so few or even no evidence to falsify them. But if there is evidence, conspiracy theories becomes truth. People have freedom to believe what is right to them. I can easily point out paradoxes in many religions, but that doesn't mean religions are wrong.

Noartist I can completely understand challenging a presented idea by demanding evidence for the latter, but let’s analyze this honestly.. a majority of conspiracy theorists will cherry pick their own evidence often without any relevant or connecting facets to string the reader along to a conclusion that ultimately lacks proper sourcing or simply made up. Am I advocating you to never question ideas or presented facts, no! Be an active learner and listener. But to reach another conclusion off shoddy evidence makes you the exact same fool you feared being in the first place.

Correct. My qualm with conspirators and all their theories is that it doesn't change the nature of how people operate, regardless of whether the theory itself is true or not. Focus on bettering yourself and not the woes of society as a whole, unless you fully intend to strap on a superhero suit and go out there and change history yourself. Everybody has their cognitive biases. It becomes as watered down as religion when you begin to project your belief onto others.

I figured the argument that would be used would be that people want to believe in a world where everything has a nice simple answer: That's often used as a cudgel against anybody that believe in conspiracy theories (and as was pointed out, some were indeed true, like MKULTRA). Ironically, I actually often find it easier to tolerate that most of the world is a jungle with a whole bunch of people and movements constantly occurring with results that are often difficult to predict, than a rather small number of people can very adroitly affect billions of people with such effect. You look at the dynastic oil and banking olicharchies, and their interconnections with foreign policy institutes, intelligence agencies, and the media, and this sadly does have a variety of evidence to support it. Starting around 2016, there's been a real desire to bring the hammer down on fake-news (by the way, fake news isn't some creation of the internet, it was around before that and was just given a different name "yellow journalism"). And there's been cases where KZread has seen videos taken down, accounts banned, Facebook deleting hundreds of pages, entire social media platforms taken down, and I believe that 90% of this is to silence views that are not convenient for those in power, and about 10% to silence propaganda and a whole bunch of nonsense online.

He compared the farmers with the others in Bolivia and called all farmers regular people. Even tho 70% of the farmers in our country is multi milionair and is a part of the elite. He still claimed that it was all about money and against the regular people. To strengthen his argument he pointed at the situation in The US, Israel, Cuba, Russia, Syria, Jemen, Iraq, Venezulea, Ukruaine, North Korea, Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana, Somalia, Egypt, Mali, South Africa and all other countries except for Norway for som reasons. While the average person is clearly on the side of the skeptics, the amount of people who actually engage in debunking conspiracy theories is considerably less. I do believe that LifeHacker is right when they say that people come up with conspiracy theories because of the survival instincts instilled in us. People become so consumed with the thought that there must be more to an event or even a “better” explanation. I believe this is why the radical conspiracy theorists are out there. As for the average person, there are probably more factors than our innate survival skills. Some people are just interested in the idea or the possibility of the conspiracy theory but don't necessarily believe the conspiracy theory in itself. There is an adrenaline rush and excitement when you learn about a crazy conspiracy theory. Even if it’s not true, it is interesting to believe that the wildfires in California were caused by direct energy weapons. People often seek reasoning behind the occurrence of something because they don’t think about the event completely rationally and their rational reasoning isn’t the answer they wanted or thought. Another reason conspiracy theories are appealing is most likely due to the media attention they receive. Shane Dawson, who has over 21 million subscribers has over 130 videos on conspiracy theories which altogether has almost 87 million views, has popularized a lot of conspiracy theories. Not only has Shane Dawson popularized specific theories, but he is reaching an audience who normally wouldn’t be likely to watch or even be interested in conspiracy theories. A lot of people, myself included, aren’t necessarily even agreeing or believing with Dawson, it is just interesting to hear about these crazy theories. Dawson isn’t the only one making KZread videos on conspiracy theories. Conspiracy videos are so popular on KZread, that KZread announced they were going to stop recommending conspiracy theory videos. They claim that this affects less than 1% of videos on the platform, which doesn’t sound significant, except that there are billions of videos on this platform. So it is still a huge amount of videos effected. They’ve even removed videos calling them “misleading” or “misinformation.” According to their transparency report, they have taken down over 6 million videos for spam, misleading content, and scams. As a lot of people are saying here in the comments, it is just fun for them to watch these types of videos, or read about them. As for those who say conspiracy theorists are just gullible, crazy and cowards, maybe some people are just that. However, for the majority of people, it's just something intriguing to hear about. Perhaps it is still unproductive to watch a bunch of conspiracy videos, let alone come up with one yourself, but I do believe they are relatively harmless.

If it's just intriguing to read about, then you don't believe in conspiracy theories. So there's nothing to defend against. Right? If you believe the theories, though, which may have loads of accusation but precious little evidence, then you're not just reading them for fun. Right?

With conspiracy theories, a person can go in different directions: There are obviously those who don't care for other theories than the official version. Some are in the middle or have no opinion and others just do some research, watch some stuff and swallow every theory that supports their conspiracy. I used to be into CTs before a bit, but today I don't care much, just from time to time (because I'm reading a book that happened on 9/11). Anyway: People want easy solutions for this complex world. I am sure that all this fighting between truthers and non believers has never led to anything positive. Below those conspiracy videos, you see people fighting back and forth, and I as a "neutral" reader don't know who to believe. It's always easy to say that there is a secret group of people trying to get away with murder. Yeah, that might and probably is true to a certain degree, but the important thing for me is this: Humans are evil. It's a lot easier to say something mean, hurt somebody, steal, being ignorant, not to help a person in need, than to do what is right. And even if you don't believe in a god, the golden rule "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" should be at least a guiding line for an atheist life. For me it is clear that humans are doing almost anything to avoid their responsibility and the fact that they are surely going to die. Most people just don't want to hear about God, that created humans, gave them a free will but also the responsibility of their every action in life. Even if a person could find out that e.g. 9/11 was an inside job, it wouldn't change that person's sinful standing against God. No, it would just be wasted time. With all that time wasted, it could have been used in a much more productive way. Instead they were chasing shadows and trying to proof that humans are basically super evil and ready to do whatever is possible to get rich and powerful, even if that would mean that innocent people would be hurt or die. Yes, one has to believe in conspiracy theories, because it is also possible to not care or be kinda neutral. God so loved the world, that he sent his only son Jesus Christ into this evil world, to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He will take away your sins and give you a new, much better perspective on life than trying to find the true victims of whatever conspiracy you are looking into. Instead we all have to take a hard look at our own lifes, at our own faults, go to Jesus, pray for forgiveness and follow God's commands for our lifes. It will not only change our own life, but the lifes of the ones around us. We should be light in this world and not fill our heads with conspiracy darkness. These things are evil and makes us fearful and paranoid. But God created us humans in his image. We are supposed to be brave people who love, who be humble, loving towards our neighbours, who just make a difference in this world, instead of just contributing to all the negativity.

I feel like alike of these points can be applied to religious beliefs; particularly the intentional causality and the tendency to make causal inferences because of patterns. You see/hear theists say all the time that they believe in god/a creator because they want to ascribe a reason, or a cause for why the universe exists. The universe exists _because_ of a creator. They don’t want to believe or accept the notion that there’s no cause for the universe’s - and essentially humanity’s - existence. The notion was all of this existing for no particular reason doesn’t sit well with them, so they choose to believe everything exists because...God.

I say It’s good that people don’t straight up believe people in high positions, politicians, media, entertaiment and question things. That’s what people should do. A lot of things that were conspiracies turned out to be true. My conspiracy take on this video. A lot of people saw it, when you write about ”conspiracy theory” in yt search this is one of the first videos to be on the first page also I’m sure some of you got in there from recommended videos. And It’s on a yt account about life hacks for example how to clean your shower in 5 ways, not very credible source of information but most of people will eat up this video like tasty breakfast and go on with their lives. At that point I realized I had a problem so I fixed it. You know how I fixed it? I realized it was only a belief. Not grounded in fact, only assumptions and speculative notions.
