This looks more like a movie than a series. I don't usually go for character drama animes, but I am never disappointed when I do. This looks like one to watch.

I really recommend it. Mao Maos such a fun protagonist with her over the top obsession with medicine, who keeps being forced to solve problems around the palace bc of how knowledgeable she is.

there are 2 underrated recent animes already out with this animation quality first is summer time rendering which aired in 2022 and second is heavenly delusion which aired just a year after summer time rendering in spring this year

It’s not a character drama if that’s what you are expecting. It’s more of a detective/court intrigues/adventure story with some romance.

Either way not sure why anyone would think this anime has anything to do with identity politics, looking at op, it's about a person's struggles in an era and culture foreign to us, and the synopsis doesn't even make it the central point. let's quit it out and look at her for what she is, an individual.

@@amandak.4246 To be fair, the establishment where Mao Mao grew up in is a high class establishment. The prostitutes there were more well educated compared to the large population illiterate citizens. The establishment is more of shared harem for noble and politicians.

Hope they don't skip anything. Easily one of my favourite light novel series.

YES!!! My favorite mystery light novel! The trailer unexpectedly gives off more slice of life vibes until it shifts at the end, which I guess reflects the more day to day palace life. Looking forward to seeing Mao Mao and Jinshi animated

Someone please tell me Lady Lihua and Lady Gyokoyou becomes friends even after Lihua son died and Gyokoyou ends up giving birth to the heir and Lihua the second son I don't mind spoilers please 🥺🙏

It looks like a lot of this takes place inside the Chinese imperial palace. I've been there and it really is a breathtaking structure.

I think this is the third series that I know of that has to deal with female lead apothecaries, and they tend to be really chill. I'm all for this. 👍

This anime seems kinda like the raven consort that was really good and this seems to look promising as well

very good animation and background, top tier music composer, top tier main voice actors, and top tier novel as its source. This one could really be a hit. I was expecting it for 2024 but it looks like it'll be for Fall 2023 instead, so not so long to wait for. Seeing such quality, my only regret may be that there's no way the anime will cover enough of the story to see Mi Chue being animated and voiced.

Thats really far into the story, expect about 2 volumes of the LN to be adapted, with how popular it is, more seasons would be expected

@@pandachan2972 it's confirmed to be 2 cours, so there'll probably be 4 or 5 vol adapted instead. But yes, like I said, there's no way the anime ever reach Chue's appearance.

I especially like how they slide still frames across the screen so you can see even more of the beautiful background image. Really pops that high quality VN cutscene feel. Oriental really blew it out of the park this time.

This actually looks pretty compelling. Along with the visuals, this has potential to be a real hit!

Love how the creator decided to use an imperial Chinese setting, although not completely historically accurate, it’s still interesting and charming

This is a great series, nice level of intrigue, intelligence, and decent setting explanation. It’s just a shame that the series dropped the main character being “unattractive” since her being an outsider was more interesting that being a main harem competitor

What's the matter for the main character to be a competitor cause it would have been a total other story and a total other main character. Also it's not a romance so no need for that and there are already a lot of story about competitor. Here it's more interesting to follow someone on the bottom of the hierarchy and seeing that with her skills she deseves better than the others to be on the top of the hierarchy. It's cool to follow servant that are just here to clean but still manage to have interesting story to tell.

Does the MC wear makeup to intentionally look unattractive also she’s using her childlike figure to not make herself a target to lustful men who would attack women and prostitutes, which was common during that age. Edit: Correction she does wear Makeup for that reason

Well, she still has a badly scarred arm and a deformed pinky. And she's never really been a harem candidate, since there's only one person who wants to romance her, and he's not really interested in anyone else. Her looks were never a factor. It is slightly annoying in that it follows the trope that the MC must always be attractive, but given her mother, it's not all that surprising.

This reminds me of some Chinese dramas I've seen and I didn't expect to see how anime gave more life to that. It's so beautifully done

It’s nice that we are finally seeing more works intend for female audiences getting adapted again it’s been so long since there was this much new shoujo and josei being released 2023 has definitely been a win for female anime fans.

It was in my top three ongoing mangas I really wanted to see adapted. I hope I can live long enough to see Witch Hat Atelier and Magus of the Library get adapted as well. I don't think either of them is very likely to be adapted, but tbf I didn't think Apothecary Diaries was very likely to get an anime either.

I'm so excited for this one! I love her, and hope that the music will be just as amazing and really look forward to it!

But they made some scenes changes inside de Temple in episode 21 (I guess). For example Jinshi doesn’t turn when Maomao see him. And when Jinshi talked to her. He looks to her in frontal close

Whoaaa this looks GORGEOUS! There's so much beautiful animation and background art in the trailer alone! And the story looks really emotional and intriguing, like one I could REALLY get invested in!!

This reminds me a lot of A Magic Steeped In Poison like where it takes place like in, and some elements in the story I absolutely loved that book.🥰 So I’m definitely gonna like this.

Looking at the trailer, they put in enough of the story for at least 24 eps so far, 4 volumes of the LN might take a while but theyll do at least two full volumes

@@pandachan2972 trailer literarly shows scenes up to a vol. 2 of LN final. But it is just not the best place for a final for me. I hope for 4 volumes because it has such a great "antagonist" and closes most of the plotlines introduced. They can adapt 4 volumes in 24 eps just fine. People often overestimate how much episodes it is requred for adaptation.

I'm so glad it's continuing and i don't have to not see it for a whole season!

After this, among my favourite ongoing mangas, only two remain without any announcement for an anime adaptation, and unfortunately I don't think either of them is very likely to surprise me
