I’m black 🇰🇪but not American; I supported this battle and I was in Cole’s camp, that was the guy I wanted to win, when we apologized I was very disappointed because I wanted to see my guy get into the battle (sports wise) but the way the diss ended up being both Kendrick and Drake drew blood, Kendrick won but at what cost? The reason why I specified my origins is so as to give my view as an outsider but also someone part of the culture. Hip hop is very toxic, the fact we could not understand where J Cole came from and that some people are still calling him coward shows exactly that. As a non American, hip hop and rap is a pastime and I can easily dissociate. I don’t think we should keep having conversations about j Cole’s apology but rather conversations on how we reacted the way we did. Why is hip hop lit when it’s negative and boring when it’s positive?

I don’t even think it’s that. He just didn’t prepare for this. Every time Cole talked about dissing someone of beef he was thinking him against some garbage that he doesn’t like. If anything he would have Kendrick backing him up. Cole literally said his phone was blowing up for a toxic reply so he was just riding the wave. I mean if Cole ignored it then fans wouldn’t accept that. To me it looked like shitting on Kendrick’s album in the ONLY thing he apologized for. He doesn’t believe that KDot sucks. Man stop, the decision to not participate was fine. The decision to publicly apologize and bow down to Kdot 2 days after he dropped was and still is a horrible way to go about it. I don't care what anyone says. He showed an astonishing level of weakness. Once for folding under peer pressure and dropping a diss he didnt want to do and twice for folding under the pressure of Kdot's impending reply and public scrutiny. He simply could not deal with the pressure. There's no other reason to publicly apologize as swiftly as he did. By his own words he was losing sleep and was spiritually disturbed by the fans reactions. Fans are just looking for a way to redeem him bc he's a nice guy which is understandable but he shouldn't get points for it. Truth is if he was really smart he would have stayed silent after he dropped or just not dropped at all. Kdot, even since "Like That" hasn't said one word outside of his music. Meanwhile Drake and Cole tried to politic their way thru this and took major Ls bc of it.

There is literally only ONE Cole album that has not just came and went. his music lacks flair for the most part. yes u can be profound and a dope lyricist but the songs still have to sound good and have sonic impact and staying power. J Cole is just not that good at making memorable music generally speaking. ofcourse this is not the case with his core fans, just like any other artists music is with their core fans. but generally, his music and albums come and go. some of his tapes are important pieces of work but they do not have lasting power universally

I was mad at Cole at first. But then I was listening to Javari and I remembered why I loved him. God using him for a bigger purpose. Real fans will know what I mean. Cole got my vote. And the reason why people were understanding of him backing out is because Cole never acted like something he wasn’t. He never pretended to be someone he’s not. Sure he did some big talk and bowed out of a beef, but as you can see the beef was way deeper and darker than we all knew. So in reality, he stayed true to himself. You can’t hate someone for being authentic and that’s what Cole is.

What I didn't understand were the fans of J Cole who _knew_ about the history between Kendrick and Drake and how far back their beef went and yet they *still* wanted Cole to join in. There are videos dated several years back, detailing the disdain between Kendrick and Drake. It's weird that some of Cole's fans would want their favorite rapper getting involved in that type of beef.

Reason why fans were surprisingly understanding of Cole was because of the severity with which Kendrick eviscerated Aubrey. Everyone is too busy making "he missed his flight on 9/11" jokes to stay upset at Cole 😂

hip hop fans come from rap and hiphop; I'm an old head and if you ever had friends and had a disagreement with them and squared up took one punch and felt sick like you where hurting a brother, especially us almost 40s somethings? NAW I said Cole smarter than drake... we light skin have to sense danger cause it can come from white or black... one of the two felt a disturbance in the force.. it takes time for wisdom to set in and it hit Cole like a stack of bricks.

I don't think so it has too much pressure on it now, he been hyping it up then he apologised thus increasing the pressure and he struggles under GOAT level press

I legitimately think Kendrick and his boys scared him back into making uplifting non confrontational music which as a Cole fan was hard to watch but c'mon the boy got scared to step in the ring with the big boys for real. Do I respect it? Yes. But he better not ever try to sneak diss other rappers ever again. I think he's done with that lane. Honestly. This was probably a good way to transition into that for him.
