Animals one of the British bands in the 1960s who launched what became commonly known as an invasion of the American pop charts culture, led by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Donavon,Dave Clark 5, Kinks, the Yardbirds, Searchers, and many others, all affected the course of Rock and Roll in America 🇺🇸 the influence from Britain including hair styles and clothes,in Britain it was the age of the Mods who wore suits and flashy clothes and rode Vespa and lambretta scooters and the rockers who dressed in jeans and leather jackets and rode motorbikes, great reaction thanks 🙏

I met the singer and stood around him for around 10 minutes after seeing his show in the town where I live. I could barely think of anything to say about anything so I kinda kept to myself 😊

He's "going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain" means he's going to prison. He followed in his father's footsteps despite his mother's admonitions, and did something in the house that sent him to prison.

I've always taken it to mean he is going back to the house of the rising sun. He is a prisoner to his vice(s) and can't escape. As he's boarding the train he acknowledges he's heading back to his chains of addiction. Great song, he sings the absolute hell out of it.

An all time classic, no mistake. Eric Burdon the singer is only 23, but looks and sounds like he's lived through a hundred bar room brawls. And so he gets the lyrics across as if he's lived that life. Brilliant.

His voice inflection and power is direct contrast with his countenance. Cold hard stoic look into the camera contrasted with the shouting chords brings the harsh reality of substance abuse right into the viewer/listeners face. Brilliantly choreographed.

Eric also puts on a passable southern accent on quite a few words. But The Animals are NOT from the U.S. south; they're part of the British Invasion described above by christophersmith7041.

Alan Price was playing a Hammond organ. Back then, every keyboard player had one if they could afford it, from recording artists to the guys who played at our dances every week. Happy days!
