I have so much respect for the actress who played Aunt Bea it was a wholesome show and with children on the set she was right dirty language needed be spoken. She was a true lady! God bless you Francis Bavier, you were brought up in a time when most ladies acted like ladies.😍

Really amazes me that in the 5 years between the time Andy told Knotts (and cast) that he only wanted to do 5 years of TAGs, NO ONE thought to touch base, oh, I don't know......around the 3rd or 4th year, to see if Andy might want to take the show longer? Instead, Knotts just goes off and signs a picture deal with Universal, and then is surprised Andy may have changed his mind sometime in the 5th year about extending the series? Amazing. Take 10 seconds between set changes or at the craft service table to check in: "Say Andj.....still gonna call it quits after 5?" If only there had been e-mail then.

So many great episodes, it's hard to pick a favorite one. The ones with Barney and Otis fighting are always fun. Opie was an amazing little actor. You have to marvel at the seamless, flowing dialogue as the kid interacts with everyone onset. Floyd the barber was just wonderful. The episode 'The manicurist' with guest star Barbara Eden was one of my favorites. 'Ring a ding ding'. Barney gets so flustered being talked to by a pretty girl visiting Floyd's shop to inquire about employment, he runs out of the barber shop into the street, almost getting run over by a car!

I remember one episode of the show that took place in the back of a small supermarket. On this back wall, there was a dial pay phone. Strange because Mayberry's phones were served on a manual exchange. When Andy is in his sheriff's office and makes a phone call, he would pick up the old styled upright candlestick on his desk and tells Sarah(the operator) the party he wanted to call. Rarely used phone numbers.

One thing I learned recently was that Desilu owned both the Cahuenga Studios (where Gone with The Wind, TAGS were taped) as well as the Forty Acres backlot where Gomer Pyle USMC and Hogan's Heroes and the Untouchables among others were taped. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz had quite the empire going and another interesting tidbit the 1980's sitcom The Golden Girls was taped at Cahuenga Studios (by that time renamed Renmar Studios) and Renmar also stood in as Maroon Cartoons in the 1988 Touchstone film Who Framed Roger Rabbit

WRONG Ricky N. 2:30. The Brady's fraternal mother was mentioned once only not my name. Bobby put a formerly displayed picture of his mom away but Mike told him to never forget his mother (though the picture never shows up again). Then Bobby says, "...I didn't want to disappoint my new mom!" This is in the pilot episode. Very tender moment. For .Mrs Brady, she only says, "A few months ago I thought it was the end" Though some idiot read into the situation saying she was divorced but they have no evidence to support that notion. Neither was it important to the series. Another sweet moment was when Bobby feels left out by receiving hand-me-downs and starts to run away and Carol meets him at the bottom of the stairs with her suit case and realizes she cares for him. Bobby says, "even though I am only a step?" Carol turns him around and says, "The ONLY steps in this house are those (pointing to the stairs)." The first season had many touching moments. THAT would be an excellent video for you to do. If you use the idea, just get me the first season on DVD I REALLY do appreciate your great work from this great era of television! Thanks Rick!

An actor can actually refuse to be nominated for an Emmy Award and at times office politics of sorts takes hold and it's why just one actor gets nominated year after year where others are ignored often thru its entire run. Yet there's also the phenomenon were a series/actor gets nominated/wins early on but it's as if they no longer exist afterwards as nomination usually go towards newer or other shows even on the same network. However once Cable/Streaming was allowed to be nominated Broadcast Networks who often have a 10+/1 more hours than them have been ignored completely altogether which largely makes Emmy Awards meaningless. indeed Julia Louis Dreyfus was a perennial winner year after year on the profanity laced show Veep and won a Best Actress in Comdy once for it when it hadn't aired for over nearly a year and half because an Emmy rules allow a nomination to carry over for more than that year. But there's been quite a lot of payback towards ignoring Broadcast Networks series since the rules were changed and Emmy Awards viewership has foundered along with it reputations as a recognition of excellence in TV. Since the more explicit and often only violent content of Cable/Streaming seem to be only what's recognized many no longer care what's been nominated or who won a year later after its broadcast. Sadly the Academy Awards are about to make the same mistake by allowing streaming film etc. to be considered and like the Emmys in today s world where once it seen its already forgotten on the Web. In the fickle world where you already know within minutes after the entire plot even months before cueing it up on a device yourself watching when it's released because it's been sorted/dissected/judged more by those who haven't seen it than those who do..

Here is a tip: It's hard too hear what you are saying, and the back ground going at the same time! I have never heard that Aunt Bee never liked her role! She could have quit at any time! It's not like, Barney was holding his one bullet to her head.

GEE RAM If she was such a classically trained actor and didn’t like her character of Aunt Bea, why would she lower herself to take the job? I never liked her character either. Had a mean streak about her, lurking beneath. She started out with a rather forced southern accent first few episodes, then slowly morphed into some kind of cross between an English accent and a high brow Philadelphia accent. What the heck!?

Sorry to tell you this, Facts Verse, but all the things about this show that I "didn't know" are pretty much common knowledge. One of the things that people actually don't know is that Andy was boinking Elli. The reason she left the show was when she broke it off with Andy, he demanded she be fired, and covered his ass by telling the producer that she wasn't a very good actor.

Wrong - "Facts" Verse- You stated that when Andy met Don Knotts he decided that he (Andy) needed to be the straight man. They had met and worked together before on the movie "No Time For Sergent's." See interviews with Andy. It was after they shot a few episodes of TAGS that Andy decided it was best if he played straight man. Also, Bah' Vee A is the way Bavier (Frances Bavier) is pronounced. Get your facts straight, "Facts" Verse.

Good call. You can see this dynamic in TAGS' first couple of eps, with Andy trying really hard to draw the laughs. One has to be smart and selfless to make a change like that, but it's likely the show woulda had a lot shorter shelf-life had it continued with Andy trying to get the laughs.

Aunt Bee's first appearance did make a reference that Opie was going through a difficult time meaning his mom must have died. And capital punishment was endorsed in the show. At least 4 times was spanking/whipping mentioned. Opie was definitely spanked by Andy as he referenced "give me a whippin'" like he's been whipped before. Drinking was common. Smoking was common. Marijuana was mentioned. Wholesome show? Hardly. And fast and loose with firearms - Barney always misfiring as his pistol gets stuck in the holster. Hell, he almost shot children several times. Gomer with the rifle barrel in his mouth and dropping it off a roof and even aiming it at Otis. Opie got into fights. His school newspaper bullied and belittled students and spread mean gossip.
