The cathedral holds an amazing number of pictures, caravaggio, greco one picture allegedly from da vinci, etc. The capitular Chamber is simply out of this world.

Yes Diego, I think unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to fully explore, and spent so much time in the cathedral! What are the main things that I missed? I’ll have to come back one day 😊

@@BenRobson123 Hola, no soy Diego, pero me atrevo a contestarte, en las cosas que te perdiste, y son monumentos increíbles. Empezaré por sus murallas y sus puertas de entrada al casco antiguo, que son magníficas, La puerta Bisagra, la puerta del sol, la puerta de Alfonso VI, puerta del cambrón, puerta Valmardon, la más antigua de Toledo, puerta de Alcántara, puerta de Alarcones. Sus dos puentes romanos, el de San Martín, y el de Alcántara. El castillo de San Servando. Museos como el del Greco, museo de Santa Cruz, museo de los concilios y de la cultura visigoda, que está en la iglesia San Román, museo del taller del moro, museo de tapices y textiles que está en el colegio infantes, museo Victorio Macho. Sus sinagogas, la de Santa Maria la Blanca, la sinagoga del tránsito, dónde está el museo sefardí. Su mezquita del cristo de la luz, dónde también se haya parte de una calzada romana. Está el monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes. Iglesias como la de Santo Tomé, dónde está el cuadro más representativo del greco, que es El entierro del conde de orgaz. Iglesia de San ildefonso, también llamada iglesia de los jesuitas, dónde podrás subir a su torre y ver unas magníficas vistas de la ciudad. Iglesia del Salvador. Iglesia de Santiago del Arrabal. La ermita del cristo de la luz. La ermita de la virgen del valle, dónde tendrás unas magníficas vistas de la ciudad, al otro lado del río Tajo. Ya que estoy comentando las vistas, puedes subir al parador nacional de Toledo y también ver las magníficas vistas de la ciudad desde allí, te aconsejo que veas cuando anochece, y se van encendiendo todas las luces de la ciudad y la de sus monumentos mayores, está considerada como la mejor vista panorámica nocturna del mundo. Hay palacios como el de Galiana, palacio de Fuensalida, palacio de Benacazón, palacio Arzobispal etc. Conventos en Toledo hay muchos y en la mayoría de ellos tienen grandes tesoros, pero resaltaría en muchos de ellos sus patios, son preciosos, como los patios que hay en las viviendas de la ciudad, que merecen mucho la pena ver, eso sí, para verlos, hay que venir a Toledo, cuando se celebra el corpus, dónde se engalana toda la ciudad, con sus toldos, tapices, flores, faroles, si es bonita la ciudad normal, engalanada para el corpus es sublime. Y por supuesto el recorrer sus calles, sus plazas, visitar alguna de sus cuevas, por ejemplo la de Hercules, sus baños árabes y judíos, ah me olvidaba del colegio doncellas nobles, que es magnífico. Y me faltarían muchos más sitios, como las termas romanas, restos del circo romano, y así seguiría con un montón de sitios de mi ciudad. Pero mi mensaje, es muy largo, encima en castellano, que a ver como te lo traduce Google, o KZread. Te envío un saludo, y si vuelves a mi ciudad, espero que te sirva, mis recomendaciones, como esta última recomendación, y es que vayas al parque temático Puy du fou de Toledo, dónde podrás ver espectáculos preciosos, y sumergerte en la edad media, bye.

I was going to write a similar post about what was missed - the iconic view of the city from across the river was a must for me, and I was also going to comment about how I too wasn't impressed with the Alcazar (but maybe after the refurbishment/ museum is finished it will be better) ... and Rosa with her comments above does a great job outlining many other great things in Toledo ...

Great great work! I like how u explain the history and the architecture. Definitely taking notes for when I visit Spain!

Those big scary figures are gigantes (giants) that parade the streets of some Spanish cities on certain occasions. When I was a kid I saw them many times in Burgos and I suspect they scared a few years off my initially allotted lifespan.

Nop. Fue capital del reino visigodo de Toledo (que ocupaba prácticamente toda la península, eso sí) y después del reino taifa de Toledo. Nunca fue capital de Castilla ni de España.

The giants (jigantes,) together with the big-heads (cabezudos), are part of the popular festivities in many cities and towns in Spain. They usually parade along with a band to brighten up the streets and play with the children. Sometimes they are a little scary for the youngest children, but they usually unleash a lot of excitement. The cabezudos chase and hit the children, while the giants dance to the rhythm of the music. The jigantes and cabezudos are always an endearing part of the festival.

@Ben Robson Here's a bit of background on the medieval origin of giants: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Processional_giant I really enjoyed your videos. I find them entertaining and instructive, with a curious, personal, non-stereotypical look. Thank you.

10:25 those "statues" are _gigantes y cabezudos_ (well, just the _gigantes,_ giants). There are used in the parades that take place during the saint patron festivals all over Spain. The giants (usually a king and a queen) just walk around whereas the _cabezudos_ (young men that cover their heads with enormous cardboard fake heads) try to chase and hit (mildly) the children with a short stick. The children like (or at least used to when I was a kid) this sort of game very much. Somebody launched candy as well but I can't remember if they were the giants or somebody else. I guess those giants are there because the height of the ceiling.

And the church of Santo Tomé which is the home of El Greco’s masterpiece “The Burial of the Gentleman of Orgaz”? Also the Jewish Quarter? You should have taken an earlier bus or have taken the fast train to Toledo so that you would have been able to do much more in one day.

@@BenRobson123 Definetivelly Segovia...u have the roman aqueduct (massive), the gothic cathedral are impressive too (not so impressive like Toledo obviously but very intresting too) and off course the Alcazar the ancient castle-court of the Kingdom of Castile (Disney Style hahaha)

Segovia, Toledo, El Escorial, La Granja, Riofrío, Aranjuez, Cuenca, Sigüenza, Alcalá, Rascafría-El Paular, some villages (Patones, Buitrago, Chinchón,), Riofrío... There are a ton of spectacular sites around Madrid (and even inside: everybody skips the impressive El Pardo palace or churches like San Francisco el Grande o San Antonio de los Alemanes, for example).
