I think even the Emperor in the end understood the word of the old priest, Uriah. Because during the fight against Horus, he first experienced the power of faith, how his strength was bolstered and Terra itself was being pulled from the grip of the warp by the prayers of mortals

This is probably the first bit of 40k lore that really struck me, whoever wrote this somehow captured true faith and that only comes from much pain.

He was a Bearer of the Word, but the battle against his wayward brothers showed that he is something greater. He is now the Bearer of the Light, HIS light, as no mere man of faith can simply banish the tides of the neverborn with but a simple word

Anchorite seems like a pretty dope dude. Goes to show Contemptors are the best.

The Anchorite, Argal Tal, and that one word bearer who was particularly close to the Raven Guard (even during the heresy) were/are the only good Word Bearers. Even Argal was a great guy, his only flaw was being too loyal to Lorgar

@@billdavis7577 lol fair. Argal was good deep down. He was well liked by just about everyone and he even formed a genuine bond with a group of Custodes. The main issue with him (other than being possessed by Ra’Am) was that he was undyingly loyal to Lorgar and when he was forced to choose between the imperium and his gene family he chose his family. He absolutely chose wrong, but it was his choice to make. Also I forgot poor Iarto Khoura was killed by Corvus Corax in a fit of rage (I will defend his innocence until GW confirms treachery)

Not like Kor’pharon or Erebus who were one dimensional bad guys who just wanted to burn everything down. Despite all that Argel Tal still walked the path of damnation, an having pangs of remorse and doubt doesn’t change that.

@@billdavis7577 I'd like to think that were Argel not the person being possessed but instead witnessed what possession was from a third person perspective, he would never have agreed to it. He was too reasonable as well as too superstitious otherwise. But that's why we like him. He's reasonable, likeable, and understandable. That's why his fall and demise are so terribly evil.

Can’t get more badass then one who saw his own folly and tried to off himself but failed and decided to go against his father Lorgar as a dragon once said “is it better to be born good or to change from ones evil nature to a path of good” only being convinced to fight after Aemond would risk his life for him rather then let him die and he beats back the Deamons and Chaos traitors and goes back to his room

Remember when the Anchorite said ‘it’s word bearin time!’ And bore the word everywhere? That was my favorite part.

It's so badsed, yet crazy how the Anchorite directly quouted his most heinous and disgusted Gene-Father to explain what he is to a son of Dorn to insure that he IS the loyal son of the Emperor... I wonder how this transaction would have turned out if it was with a son of Ultrama.....

The Anchorite is basically the Dreadnought version of John The Baptist. That is so cool. May there be more loyal sons of the Word Bearers. I would like to hear there stories.

What the anchorite says in the begining is a truth we humans should abide. An eye for an eye, will eventually leave a blind world...well, galaxy in this case 🙏🙏😔

I'm actually relistening to this story during my drive to work. Couldn't tell you how many times I've listened to it but it never gets old

Amazing how coherent the Anchorite is after all these years. Dreadnoughts tend to lose their lucidity as the milenna wears on, but he is still going strong enough to engage in complex theological discussions. Thanks for the video.

That's contemptor pattern for you. Even Rylanor who was kept in the worst condition imaginable was still mentally stable after 10k years, and the Anchorite has the Ecclesiarchy to take care of him

Thanks for doing This! The Anchorite made me buy my first Two 40k books….. only because the book he’s in, “Apocalypse,” didn’t differentiate the Spanish version from the English! But what disappointed me was the the Anchorites’ story was almost word for word that if the one on 2d4chan, but Rreading him BANISH demons on his own, with a gold light, makes you wonder what the imeperial cult and its most ferevent followers is capable of. To think that HE was the one who re-wrote and censored Lirgsrs book, which he still writes to this day. Thanks again! Keep up the great work!

Out of all of the known dreadnoughts the Anchorite is one of my favorites.

A fascinating character and paragon of his faith - one who practices the most extreme possible asceticism. A brilliant tale of true sainthood. ❤

Lorgar still has a pretty awesome armour set in my opinion. Would be cool to see this moment of the Anchorite animated, contempor dreadnought armour class is pretty awesome too.

We can infer a little about him from his circumstances. He was clearly loyal enough to the WB dark path to escape the purging by the Dark Council prior to the heresy and fanatical enough to be included in the roster of Calth. This guy wasn’t just a rank and file WB going along with the flow, he was a true believer who even Lorgar thought was too dangerous.

The thumbnail is hilarious, like "So you wanna hear about the God-Emporer???"

Him and Narek ( hopefully still alive in the next sage )are the last word bearers to believe in his holyness

That final line was enough to send shivers through me, I dearly hope that somehow the Bearers of the Word had more then a handful of their number to either remain true or come back to the Emperor's light. In their faith lies hope for Mankind to fight back the darkness and reclaim what was lost

We are not many who have realized and recanted our fall to Empyrean deception, but we do exist. Though we do not expect any recognition for our new path of pennance, and even less any forgiveness for our heretical crimes. No, the only atonement and redemption we can strive for is from the God Emperor himself if he deems our souls worthy to be claimed by Him once we die in His service.

Lorgar was deliberately misled and decived by Erebus, after beeing primed in his youth by Kor Phaeron and then kept ignorant and vulnerable by his True gene father. Lorgar's failiure was only made possible through the neglect of the, then nacent, God Emperor.

Man I wish we could get more of him, he was awesome. At least we got something on Suboden Khan on White Scars codex for what I heard. Another plot point for GW's archives.

Now we need a 30k/40k Anchorite model!!!

Rylanor was more badass but the Anchorite had a bigger and more helpful impact probably having the Imperium give more power to Big E through faith and a symbol to fight for repented and was sad enough to try to attempt Suicide and he’s as old as Bjorn instead of feeling like Bjorn a grandpa he feels like a Ex convict who found religion/Jesus or does motivational speeches and can change ones mindset or mood but also is humble enough to not state his name or have a Ego

No matter what legion, Dradnaughts are always based

The Anchorite was confused since it was revealed that it was under Gulliman's direct order that reinforcement was sent to save him. He'll never understand why would Gulliman spent his resources saving him even 10000 years later.

One of the loyalist word bearers ❤ He, along with Rylanor and The Fel Handed are amongst the best dreadnaughts. The Anchorite is one such peculiar dreadnaught though, because supposedly they go crazy after a millenia or two, but the anchorite was interred for 10 millenia 😅 idk if it is because he is already broken to begin with, or his faith is that strong it is already madness 😂

My question is was the emperor testing them or did he think it was just a test and the Emperor was actually just punishing them? because at this point I don’t know what the emperor wants. at first It seemed like he wanted to truly atheistic logic base society, but the same time he dressed up in a massive gold suit of armor with a flaming sword, and a literal halo of light around himself, and somehow expected Not to be worshiped.
