My goodness. Thank you for this gem. Until now (May 2024) I did not know that Julian of Norwich lived an enclosed life. I am gobsmacked. 😮 I feel for those who had to empty the daily waste. It could not have been pleasant 😅

As an Atheist, I have to say it takes a special kind of stupidity to see wisdom in spectacular stupidity. The anchoresses may have just preferred an enclosed life, and they were probably getting social status by doing so. They were probably the equivalent of Tik Tok famous in their day To be impressed by it centuries later is bonkers IMO.

Monotheists don't think the way an atheist thinks. Their worldview is entirely different. Trying to discern her motivations through your own worldview is pointless unless you can back up your argument with evidence about her state of mind.

Yes I agree with @_Dublin_Girl - you need a bit more argumentation to back up your point. That is, if you are really serious about your view that the life of the likes of Julian of Norwich is just ‘spectacular stupidity.’ But, on a lighter note, certainly locking yourself up behind a brick wall for life would look pretty ridiculous nowadays!! So I can see where you come from! And, you did say IMO at the end - you are certainly entitled to your point of view.
