    We're in LA. Used to be a great place to be decades ago. Not so much anymore. So we're going out there to check things out, different towns, see if we can feel the vibe there. From what I've seen in videos, I like what I see. I've been there before a couple of times years ago but never with the idea of moving there. You look at things differently with the possibility of moving there.

    @18andlikeit very cool, and a great idea - gotta make sure you feel a connection through the lens of "could I live here?". Definitely check out OKC and the surrounding suburbs, and maybe the Tulsa metro as well. I'm partial to OKC, but it's home for me 😊. I hope it's nice while you're here, August can be pretty hot but might be out of any heat wave near the end of the month (fingers crossed 🤞). Wishing you a fun and insightful trip!

    @@livinginoklahomacityofficial yes we'll be there the last week of Aug so I'm hoping any heat waves will be gone by then. To be honest the main negative I can see right now concerning Oklahoma is the summer heat. I don't do well in it especially as I get older. I don't like the idea of being couped up in a house all summer with A/C on. Not much summer fun doing that. But we'll see! I used to live in the Dallas burbs as a kid so I know how brutal it can get. Thanks for your replys!

    I've been on a tear about cost of living and housing for some time now. My folks think I'm overly negative, but I reiterate - my state (Massachusetts) has the second highest cost of living in the country, with only Hawaii ahead. I have my first trip to OKC planned for late July (great timing with the temperature, I know) and I'm SO excited to experience something different. I don't know anyone yet, but I'm seriously considering a move. You nailed it when you mentioned the lack of the hope that people feel living in some of the more expensive states. I'm grateful to have grown up in a safe place and there are positive things about my state; quality of healthcare probably standing at #1. That said, I'm 35, unmarried and feeling like I'm not going to have that quality of life I seek if I stay where I am, which is quite sad. I concur, the Dream isn't dead but its just out of reach for younger folks living in many states in America.

    You're not wrong! Massachusetts is a beautiful state, but to your point one of the very highest in terms of cost of living. I helped someone purchase a home here from just outside of Boston within the last year. You and lots of people are exploring options to build their lives that will provide more opportunities for their futures. Stoked you're making it out to OKC next month, and yes it will be hot! Haha. Give me a shout if you ever have any questions 😎

    It's hot and it's country, even in the cities. Lots of guns and tornadoes. Politics can make Texas seem liberal

  • @livinginoklahomacityofficial

    @livinginoklahomacityofficial

    Ай бұрын

    @SafeEffective-ls2pl are you from okc or have you spent any meaningful time here? It's hot a few weeks a year, but certainly more mild through the rest of the year. Definitely not as hot as Texas. I've also lived in OKC my whole life, and traveled all over the world and visited lots of "country" places (including of course rural Oklahoma), and wouldn't characterize OKC as "country". Definitely a modern American city. Gun laws are lax for sure, but I literally can't recall the last time I actually saw one (and certainly not more guns than Texas). So conservative it makes Texas look liberal? I'm not sure I buy that either, probably more neck and neck. Oklahoma county (majority of OKC) voted only 51% Trump to 49% Biden in 2020, so like most conservative states, the major cities are much more mixed. And tornados? Texas has 2-3 x the tornados of Oklahoma virtually every year. For some reason, we've just been pinned as the capital, thanks to movies like Twister.

    @hellosaysandrew totally up to you, plenty to do either time of year. But if you plan on wanting to spend a decent amount time outside exploring, fall time would likely be a better bet. Never know how early the extreme heat sets in during the summer, sometimes not crazy hot until August and sometimes shows up in July. Hard to enjoy too much time outside for those couple week heat waves.

    Haha you are definitely not wrong there. We've allowed social media to soften our primal survival instincts (and fool us into think we are "doing something" by posting haha). I'm a big believer in the power of our own beliefs. And sometimes I think we all need a nudge, to even recognize that something is a possibility. I think the thought of moving across the country seems wildly impossible to many. But the only thing between us and the life we want, is taking action. Thanks for watching!

    Just came back after a couple of days. Some of the areas were a little ghetto and homeless but it wasnt bad. I would love to know the areas to absolutely live in. I'm coming from Houston and it was insanely cheaper in Oklahoma City for a lonely old paramedic like me.

    Yeah, to be fair, that can be said for almost any city. Being from Houston, you're used to a huge area city, I'm sure - OKC is pretty massive. Not far behind Houston in terms of area (OKC 606 sq miles, Houston 640 sq miles), so it's entirely possible for you to have been in a part of the city many who live here have never even been/seen. As an example, I had clients recently move here from Denver (a pretty nice/clean city), remarking about how "clean" okc is, and how they almost never see homeless population. And that's after 3 months of living in the city. It's all relative, of course, but I'd encourage you to come back for a visit sometime!
