CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Peter (Andrew Garfield) discovers a message from his deceased father in a secret laboratory.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The web-slingin' wall-crawler hits the screens once again in this follow-up to Marc Webb's 2012 reboot of the series. Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker, who squares off against the villainous Electro, played by Jamie Foxx. As the film opens, we find Richard (Campbell Scott) and Mary Parker (Embeth Davitz) stealing away with some crucial Oscorp files while leaving young Peter in the care of Aunt May (Sally Field) and Uncle Ben. Flash forward about a decade, and Peter (Garfield) is swinging into action as Spider-Man; having successfully thwarted the hijacking of an Oscorp truck by notorious Russian criminal Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti), Peter ditches the costume just in time to meet up with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) at their high school graduation. Despite his deep love for Emma, however, Peter remains haunted by his promise to her late father not to get emotionally involved with her for fear that she could be targeted by Spider-Man's enemies. Meanwhile, young Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) inherits OsCorp and a deadly retrovirus from his father Norman (Chris Cooper), and brilliant but timid OsCorp scientist Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx) gets infused with a powerful dose of electricity while attempting to fix a faulty power circuit in the lab. Upon regaining consciousness, Max discovers that he has the power to harness electrical currents - the higher the voltage the more powerful he becomes. When a battle with Max in Times Square shorts out Spidey's web-shooters, Peter goes to work on developing a more reliable model of his signature weapon while Harry grows convinced that Spider-Man's blood is the key to his survival. Later, villainous OsCorp chairman Donald Menken (Colm Feore) steals the company out right out from under Harry, driving the vengeful youth to break Max -- now Electro -- out of the heavily-guarded Ravencroft Institute for a two-pronged attack on Menken and Spider-Man. The stage for that battle is set when New York City goes dark just as Peter declares his love to Gwen, plunging the wise-cracking web-slinger into a fight that could forever alter the course of his life.

    I've always thought this was a shocking reveal. The fact that Peter's father implanted his own DNA into the spiders means that Peter was the only one who was compatible to harness their powers. You could say it's an unbelievable coincidence or that Peter was always destined to be Spider-Man. That's meaningful.

    I don't believe that means it was Peter's destiny to become Spider-Man, it really just meant Peter was the only one with the proper blood to allow him to not become consumed by the foreign species IF he ever got bitten. Peter becoming Spider-Man was still a complete accident, regardless of Richard injecting the spiders with his own human DNA.

  • @teddestin2194

    @@oldchannelforayoungstupidf2649It means that it was exactly his destiny, because if the spider bit anyone else they wouldn't have gotten the powers. Whether the spider bites him or not is irrevelant, the fact that it was already imbedded with his DNA already soldifies that he had a chance to become Spiderman, which takes away the whole point of Spiderman. What if the spider bit Miles Morales in this universe? Gwen Stacy? Than we wouldn't have any of those Spidermen/women

    I think that Tobey didn’t play very well (the acting in the Raimi trilogy is one its biggest failures, except for JK Simmons, Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe), but he was fine I guess, and Holland is a good actor… But Andrew… He was the only one among the three Spideys to have such a great carrier after and before his incarnation of Spider Man. He played for Mel Gibson, David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, won several awards, was nominated for an Oscar, and is now continuing his promising carrier. And his acting as Spidey and Peter was incredible. He was the only Spider Man actor who expressed emotions by voice and movements while wearing the whole suit

    @SharkTank Sorry but I don’t agree 🙃 Tobey is a fine Parker, but mostly ruined by his acting and most of his facial expressions and awkward dialogues. Andrew’s script was fine in TASM1 but great in TASM2. His character comes through so much pain and lost and that’s precisely what defines Spider Man. Also, all of the emotional and romance scenes work so well because of the writing and his acting

He first became Spider-Man the vigilante and then spiderman the friendly neighborhood superhero because it was his choice. People saying other spiderpeople exist or not doesn't matter because they could set up this universe as he is the only superhero here just like how it was in the dark knight trilogy where Batman was the only superhero.

    around 2:00 - 2:31, i feel like THIS would’ve been the perfect moment for Richard to say and for Andrews Peter to hear the official “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility”. the main reason is because Richard is confessing that it’s bc of his intelligence (or great power) was a reason that Oscorp became what it is, and it’s his responsibility to fix it. I picture it going like it did, but right before young peter calls him, Richard says, “and Peter, if you ever find this, i hope you can forgive me, leaving you is and forever will the the hardest thing i’ve ever done, but it’s as i always say and hope you will forever believe, “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility.” I hope you understand son….” - then young peter calls out, and the video ends, something like that 😅

    Going to have a very unpopular opinion right here, but here me out. People criticize the idea of Peter being “chosen” to be Spider-Man, but if you think back at this Uncle Ben’s moral in these films, it wasn’t that “With Great Power comes Great Responsibility”, It’s that if you have the ability to help people, you have a responsibility to do it, regardless of who you are. The costume, strength, or bloodline doesn’t determine whether you can do good, We’re all born to to good. Peter Parker isn’t a hero because he has magic blood. He’s a hero because it’s his responsibility.

  • @captainmarvelwilson508

    @captainmarvelwilson508

    I have to disagree. That theme is so misguided throughout these films. This film was already doomed from the start when they decided to add in so many plot points, and villains that they were very ready to have a mess in their hands. Richard saying that his DNA was in the spiders is just some random gimmick that adds nothing to the overall story. It has nothing to do with Peter’s responsibilities, it is just a sub plot that pads out Peter’s backstory.

    Some of the plot lines in this movie are kind of weird but this one is a good plot line but it still was like never further explored after this scene, that’s what most of the scenes in this movie are.
