The Amazing Race Recap - Ep 1 & 2 (Season 33)

Ойын-сауық

Watching the show is supposed to be the fun part. We’ve already done all the work and we know how the story ends. What I didn’t account for is how watching the challenges would make my body re-live the stress and anxiety of the race all over again.
Every week, Penn and I are going to do a recap around our personal experience on Season 33 of The Amazing Race, including what we were feeling and what we talked about when the cameras went off.

You should get together with Corey from Live Each Day and change the ADHD platform. You both feel the positive and negative aspects. I think he might be into it, he made a video showing his brain on each personality he feels and it is hysterical and shows how crazy it can be in the brain when you have this stigma based brain alteration. It is so refreshing that people are so much more accepting of other people right now and it is because of people, dare I say hero's, like you!! Thank you!!

Kim and Penn, you are more than just “people who make videos.” Your videos were and still are a beacon of positivity during the crazy times that we are in. Don’t EVER use “just” to describe how amazing you are. Also, Penn, I have ADHD as well. And my 18 yr old son was diagnosed at 17 during the pandemic. I love that you, too, think it is both a superpower and a “curse” simultaneously. I teach math to high school kids that “don’t get math.” The first thing I tell students is that “I have ADHD use it as a superpower.”

I just watched the "A Good Wife" clip, and y'all, you may be the "old" couple, but this is the kind of stuff that makes you golden. Experience in marriage is what leads you to pre-plan how to talk kindly to each other. To pray for what you know will be difficult for your spouse. Handling the emotions in a way that is healthy for your marriage is the advantage of the experienced, and y'all clearly have that!

Kudos to CBS for taking time to highlight this on the Amazing Race episode. Pretty much everyone knows about Brexit by now, but I didn't know Norway wasn't a member of the EU until last night. It was interesting how within the same episode, Penn's ADHD was both a gift at the puzzle and a curse at the Roadblock, but to be fair the rail mail was surprisingly simple compared to most Roadblocks! Just gotta say also, kudos to you guys for being the most patient cast The Amazing Race ever had. We saw in the preview the moment Phil announces the filming shutdown at the end of next week. It must have been agonizing to wait a year and a half to finish.

What are you guys doing here?? You are filling our hearts with JOY and laughter. You are bringing melodies into our lives when no one really feels like singing. Honestly, when everything feels rather sucky - we go to to KZread and we find the LATEST Holderness Family parody and we literally laugh our asses off. And that my friends is HUGE as in BIGGLY in this insane world in which we are living. Our family who now lives in Austin - but spent 25 years in Charlotte - appreciate you and your kids more than these few very inadequate words can express. You are appreciated xo xo

Love you guys! I take issue with just one thing. You aren’t merely creators of funny videos. As someone who lives alone, your videos were a lifeline to me during the “stay at home” portion of the pandemic. Your videos make people smile, laugh, and touch their hearts with joy. You were definitely among like company on the race… Don’t downplay the significance of what you do! You rock! Rooting for you!

I appreciate the level of unaired footage being brought to light in this podcast. When previous teams do recap podcasts for their own season, they're usually not quite as forthcoming as their season airs. I usually have to try and get an interview with them haha. Thanks, guys! -- TARstorian.

Haven’t watched the Amazing Race in years but you’re the reason I’m watching this year! And I really hope they take you up on the offer to produce a show on the “behind the scenes of the Amazing Race”. I too think that would be cool.

Thank you for your efforts to support each other and to share that journey. When Penn says, “thanks for forgiving me,” I think he means thanks for UNDERSTANDING. It’s why Kim feels she doesn’t need to “forgive” you in the instance. That “good wife” clip is a beautiful example of Mother Theresa’s quote, “If we have no peace, it’s because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” Kim, you demonstrated the grace and gift to understand Penn in that moment! I love that y’all tried to keep perspective in how you prioritize relationship and “the journey” over “the game,” and yet still enjoy being competitive! Woohoo!! I am LOVING this season. Can’t wait to watch your next leg!! 🥰

LOVE the recap! Since I've never watched TAR before, it really helped some things make sense, especially the mail room roadblock. You guys do not give yourself enough credit! I've been one of the people who have said you guys needed to win a humanitarian award for keeping the hopes of Americans alive through comedy relief and realism for 2020 COVID pandemic! I looked forward to your videos because it was normal people who had an opportunity to let the spirits of other people who are all going through the same thing- same time- but had no platform to share with. So just because you haven't been on Oprah, or Ellen, or any other type of talk show doesn't mean that what you did or do is not important to other people. And especially with Penn talking about ADHD - and Penn, I felt your pain so much as someone who also has ADHD. One of our biggest fears and affirmations that we enforce on ourselves with ADHD, is how much we let other people down because of our ability/disability. And I appreciated both the time and attention that the show spent acknowledging that - both the good and the bad, and Kim your amazing support being shown because it takes very special people to help us through our lives. So please don't underestimate how much you influence People! ETA: yes I wondered when this was taped because I saw this hugging, and kissing, and talking to strangers.. no masks! So I knew this was pre-covid in some way or post covid... Post Delta ...pre-omicron?!? LOL! So I'm looking forward to you next week's understanding of how this went down. Great job guys! I think I've only watched a couple episodes in the past of Amazing Race, I'm watching for you guys!
