The Amazing Moment Elephant Orphan, Phabeni Meets Bulls Sebakwe & Somopane!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
The time had come to bring in two more elephants, to introduce little orphan Phabeni to two new members of his future family. The morning started with a meeting at the homestead between Phabeni, Lundi and Jabulani and then, the two big bulls, Somopane and Sebakwe joined. As they approached, Lundi turned around with her rear towards them. Somopane was the first to approach Lundi and Phabeni. His trunk stretched out to smell the baby, while Lundi’s ears were fanned out, her head lifted up, watching Somopane, while Phabeni suckled from her.
Sebakwe was a few steps behind Somopane and moved in between Somopane and Lundi. Lundi was ready for the greeting, mouth open, and her trunk swinging towards them. The open-mouth display is typical of an elephant vocalising and indeed some of the rumbles shared between all the elephants in this greeting can be heard.
Sebakwe reached out his trunk to Phabeni too, smelling the new baby at his feet. Somopane stretched his trunk out towards Lundi while communicating, smelling the secretions from her temporal gland on the side of her head. Phabeni was oblivious to their reaction, suckling in his safe spot with Lundi.
Lundi moved a few steps away from the bulls and Phabeni followed. Soon the little elephant began to show more interest in the bulls. He moved towards Sebakwe, smelling the dominant bull's belly. He quickly realised that he would not get milk from the bull, and moved towards Lundi again. This older female offers Phabeni comfort and security since they have already formed a bond.
We walked over to the drinking trough to make space for everyone to be around Phabeni. The little chap drank some water and spent time beside the three gentle giants.
Soon it was time to head back to the orphanage for Phabeni's next milk bottle feeding. Another incredible and successful introduction done and dusted, Phabeni closer to meeting the whole herd and integrating into a new family.
What a courageous little bull he is, taking each step with a calm and accepting demeanour. He is teaching us plenty about remaining cool under pressure, and the reassurance he gets from Lundi is going a long way in helping him settle into these changes. Every elephant needs a herd.

The calm acceptance is wonderful to see. Lundi is an amazing mum.
Thank you all for what you are doing.
I love how patient they are. They don't force things along.
I love how confident little Phabeni is... he has definitely stolen my heart 🐘❤❤❤
Incredible how small Phabeni is in comparison. He has come along way. ❤
Beautiful. Thank you from a South African far away.
Both Somopane and Lundi have such great respect for Sebakwe as the dominant bull, and allow him to explore the baby at his leisure and his interest. These elephants are marvelously respectful of the rules of hierarchy.

Ай бұрын
I think you confuse the hierarchy somewhat. Dominant bull does not mean that he occupies the highest position in the herd hierarchy, only that he is the dominant male in the herd. Elephant herds are primarily matriarchal in nature - the oldest female has the highest position in the herd hierarchy. Orca pods are similar.
It's hard to believe this itty-bitty tiny little elephant will someday be as enormous as these big bulls. He's just so tiny compared to them. ❤❤
The difference in the size of Phabeni & the adult elephants is awesome! It shows how very young this orphan really is! Wow!
Thanks very much 👍 to you all 👍. Hi Phabeni ❤️

It is amazing to see how accepting are those ellies of a new addition. They will embrace Phabenie as one of them as they did in the past with Timisa and Khanysa. Phabeni is so lucky to have found a wonderful ellie and human family that will take care of him forever!!!🥰♥️🍀🐘🌟🙏🏻
She looks so proud to say meet my adopted son 😊
What an incredible meeting. Phabeni is so tiny next to these big bulls. Thank you for sharing this.
A wonderful family scene! All elephants is gentle greeting each other. Baby Phabeni looks so small beside the adults.😊🐘💕
This film is another classic.❤. Thanks for sharing these momentous moments, especially on a Monday. Transporting us to a safe and comfortable environment. The precious little boy is already learning from the magnificent bulls. Everyone at Herd must be full of joy and pride. Bless Lundi's caring heart. Beautifully done.
One can only imagine how much Phabini misses his mum and the immense comfort and relief he gets from Lundi. I should say mutual.

I wonder how Phabeni's mum is. She must be in mourning....assuming she has has not been killed. It doesn't bear thinking of. 😯😟
What a beautiful picture of the two bulls and the allomother Lundi with the newest baby. This herd is awesome thanks to all of the caregivers ❤
Our childhood expression “the grass is as high as an elephant’s eye” takes on a whole different dimension when you see tiny Phabeni out there. I continue to be astounded at how this miniature pachyderm survived on his own.
I'm so happy for Phabeni! Beautiful rumbles from the bulls!
I love how Somopane kept reaching out to Lundi as if he was reassuring her that everything was okay. I have seen wild bulls mistreating young elephants so I really believe that this herd is just unique because they have become family with unrelated elephants. I always loved elephants but I didn’t realize how wonderful they really are until I started watching this channel.

he still wants to get some milk from other ellies, and it seems he doesn't know by instinct he can't get it from the bulls
my thought is the reason that lundi and others except the babies so easily is they have seen, and watched you and the carers so loving and caring of them the way you did when they came in. The elephants are so smart. How could any one hurt these beautiful animals. god bless
Oh my goodness, Phabeni looks so small in the presentation of the larger herd.💕💕🌺🌴🌴 What a wonderful job of meeting these big guys.
It seems the males are definitely glad to have a little boy. I don't remember them sharing this much direct curiosity to Khaniysa, although they were very accepting. How exciting..❤❤❤

Watching Phabeni with the giant elders almost looks like an optical illusion. He is so small and adorable. It is so heartwarming to see that the herd does not care where Phabeni came from, he is with them now and is theirs. Gotta love elephants.
How patient and polite of Somopane to give Sebakwe time with Phabeni! The ellies in this herd are amazing. ❤ Thank you Adine and wonderful Carers for taking care of this loving herd.❤
Sebakwe seems smitten with his new baby brother. Thank you Adine and Herd team this is amazing, elephant society is very complex. Phabeni will have some interesting dreams tonight 😍

Me weeping like a baby myself here! So beautiful!
Phabeni is soooo lucky to have Lundi, my heart bursts at their gentleness🥰& growing connection.
Beautiful,❤️❤️amazing ,loving to watch interactions with the other elephants and the baby so adorable!!❤️hugs❤️
This is absolutely wonderful. Sebakwe has taken to this little bull and has given him a new interest. I bet he'll keep a close eye on little Seuntjie. Somopane is so respectful of Sebakwe. Surely Phabeni will come to know Somopane too, but we can see here that Sebakwe has risen to the occasion and will be close to the little one. Somopane's tusks are the most beautiful of all. And Luntz, well Tokwe and Adine/Carers were right. You have proven once again that you are a great Mum!
What a beautiful, incredibly special moment to bear witness to. I'm filled with love. The Jabulani Herd is the most important herd in the world. Sebakwe just blew me away. They all do. They are so compassionate, loving and protective. There's no doubt that each member of this amazing family knows what to do with a new little baby. It's emotional to watch them accept Phabeni as one of their own. Beautiful ❤
Sending love from Philly💕
I love to watch Phabeni around the bigger elephants in the herd. He wanders among their legs as he pleases, but every one of the adults knows exactly where he is at any moment, and they're gentle and slow with their movements so that he won't be hurt. They're already looking out for him, accepting him as he mingles and explores each member of the herd. How amazing to watch the adults taking such great care around the baby!

Lundi is much more protective of Phabeni than she was of Khanyisa. Perhaps it was because Khanyisa had more confidence. This is just amazing!

I see that too...I think Lundi + rest of herd sense Phabeni's tenderness... He's a gentle spirit by nature, plus his trauma, separation from his momma + herd obviously DEEPLY affected him...He grieved deeper + longer than Khanyisa did, it seems...(Khanyisa, a much more "outgoing" personality; Phabeni, more inward, sensitive by nature). Adine is sooo right -- they are all unique -- like we are, in ways... Are they not the MOST amazing creatures?!!!
I love that Sebakwe and Somopane are so patient and curious about little Phabeni. I look forward to the day that Phabeni is as big as these massive bulls.
Absolutely fascinating!! It's really wonderful how calmly these gentle giants accepted this tiny little being so readily. Congratulations to you all for your careful planning, so ensuring this introduction went so seamlessly. Truly wonderful.
