The Amazing CHEAP GOLF CLUBS HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT!

Don't ask me why it took so long, but I finally tested the cheap golf clubs that you can purchase at Dicks Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy - the Tommy Armour 845 Max irons. I bought them on sale for only $65 per club!
These golf clubs stack up very well against other cheap offerings from the likes of Stix, Costco and Cobra.

I did like that video - thanks
So exited that you put this review out, we have needed this for a long time!!
Great video. I actually bought the Stix set after the video (in silver to avoid the one negative). I particularly like the honest reviews, no editing of the bad shots, makes it very relatable. Rapidly becoming my favorite KZread channel.
Almost thought I was watching a James Robinson video, "Let's do it now" 🙂
I've recently picked up a set of the 845s not the max just the standard and they have helped tremendously. I really love the forgiveness and since the change I am shooting in the mid to low 90s as opposed to my old scores of high 90s. Love the channel and content.
I bought a used set of the 845 irons and was so impressed with their performance I sold my other irons. Not only is the feel and sound better but I actual hit the ball with a draw that is predictable. My other irons went to the right at the slightest lack of concentration. When Tommy Armour comes out with and upgraded version I will be there to buy them.
I’m a beginner/amateur golfer. The graphite recoil shaft and forgiving strike zone was an immediate game changer versus my collection of steel older cobra / Taylor made hand-me-downs. Took the 6 iron and immediately put 10 shots at 160 yards within 10 yards of each other. I’ve never been able to do remotely that well before. Amateurs are generally lacking swing speed. Additionally, the psychological and physically impact of a ground strike or a mishit can really snowball at that skill level. These clubs helped immediately with that. After attracting some attention with the consistency of the shots one of my bay neighbors said he was in the same boat and he switched to the TM Stealth. I tried his clubs w/ the red graphite. The feel like was nearly same. Consider the 845Max’s a budget friendly Taylor made stealth / M4
It’s nice to see someone review these clubs as the original 845 silverscott’s were a true classic. I only know of one other review on KZread.
Glad the Tommy Armour line was finally considered for a review. I've seen them so many times in the DSG stores, but really did not know anything about them. Pretty good clubs, Tx Gabe.

The build quality really looks excellent to me so def can’t argue with the value.
Looks like a nice set of irons for a budget minded golfer. Always liked the old Tommy Armour 845 irons back in the day. Saw them at Dick's in Daytona Beach today. Great review.
I recently bought these irons and can't wait to try them! I also bought the Calloway Epic Max LS... Both from Dick's 🤞🏼👌🏼
I been used 28 degrees utility more than 10 years, love it,still use it.
I’d love to get my hands on these! Tommy’s are super slept on!
Nice video. I’ll have to check them out.
Great video, game improvement irons are great, really enjoyable golf, your spot on that distance is down, but I play play in areas of wind so either clubbing up or down anyway. As long as you have your gap distances covered why worry.

Very true Oliver
The best club in the 845 set in my opinion is the driver. It’s really lightweight, and when you lean into it, you can generate an insane amount of club-head speed. Add to that the sound it makes on impact, and it is such a satisfying club to hit.
Just picked this set up for 400 bucks . Tried just about every set they had 1k plus sets and I liked these the best .
I'd love to see you try out the Takamo irons and wedges
The previous version they had called the TA-1 Irons were really really nice clubs. I’ve had Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade, Adams and Cobra Irons in the past, and those Tommy Armour TA-1’s were the best. Forgiving, accurate and balanced. And I sold them… yes I’m an idiot.
I've been wanting new club and ones that don't break the bank think I may pick a set of those up
They have released a new 2024 Tommy Armor 845 iron set. Would love to see you review them.
Mere Mortal? I could only dream of that kind of ball striking. Another great video.

Another good budget sets are the Hot Launch series by Tour Edge I actually picked up last years set the C521 for $350 brand new two weeks ago. The new year model goes for $599 and can be ordered directly from their site and can be custom loft and lie as well for no extra cost. They also come with a lifetime warranty.

Man a gentleman at the range this morning had those clubs. He was obviously a very new player and i decided to just help him a little and i wanted to show hime an easy swing with thae driver for that set and i hit it dead straight and about 280 (im 50 years old with some back pain) i could not believe it! i then walked back to hit my $400 driver. I bet my driver cost more than his whole set. Makes me shake my head and wonder about all the money thrown at clubs every year.
Did you notice your stance is slightly closed? Enjoyed it! Thanks
About time you played Cypress!
How do these compare to something like taylormade m4 or the callaway mavrik? I have seen these recently for 300 at dicks which is really intriguing
I suggested you try the 845 Max Driver when you did your latest Driver Series...It's a pretty damn good club too!!!

Lol, ouch. The intro is killing me. Walked out of Dicks/GolfGalaxy this weekend too with the receipt for my new set of G425s replacing MY 845s from 1994. :) Fun review, thanks!

Tommy Armour makes really good irons. I remember back when I had a mismatched bag of clubs and I had a 7 Iron Tommy blade. That club was by far my favorite to hit. Great review and test of these clubs. Not a fan of the thickness of the clubhead but they sound nice and seem pretty forgiving. Great price for the quality of the clubs!

I played Silver Scots circa 1990. They rivaled Ping Eye2s. Found a set the other day at T&D Golf in Oldsmar. 2-PW for $169. Wonder how they’d compare to the ones you tested. Always liked the Brand.

Nice, love that place. The old ones were pretty darn good, and forgiving in their own right. These def a bit longer, but also stronger lofted.
Bought these for my son which came with the graphite recoil shaft and 4 & 5 hybrid on sale plus $20 coupon for $434! I play some Apex cf16s and let me tell you I hit these things at the range and they performed amazing for the price. Sound & forgiveness and quality is excellent! Buy them you won’t be disappointed!
Really really really good clubs. If you are graduating from a starter set, but aren't ready to drop the 2500+ for a new set, GET THESE! Driver/3W/5W/irons/3wedges ~$1200
Tommy Armour usually makes quality clubs. The XP 85 shaft is nice, too. As a "moderate speed swinger," (let's call it that to be kind) I love that weight in steel. Do you plan on getting hold of the new Cobra Forged Tec and X irons? Would love to have your thoughts on them!

Yes those are #1 on my list of ones to try. Hopefully within the next few weeks.
What is an attack wedge? AW is usually meaning aproach wedge, at least on everything I've seen up here in Canada. If it's the same thing, attack wedge sounds cooler though!

Yes thanks so much. Very close to finished. I’ll def do a sim room tour video soon.
I bought a set of these same irons 2 weeks ago. Ended up walking out with this set in stiff flex and a box of maxfli tour balls for $400 with a gift card I earned with their scorecard reward points. Overall they are excellent clubs. I tried all of the game improvement irons and these had the best dispersion for me. I’m really surprised Tommy Armour clubs don’t get more recognition in the market. It’s probably due to them not having any real social media presence or marketing. My only complaint so far is the paint they used for the numbers on the club already came off on 3 different clubs. It just flaked off. Not a performance issue, but I’ve had really cheap clubs that still had that paint on them after 3 or more seasons of golf.
Hey, thanks for sharing for another 4 dollars more per iron I would rather have the PXG 0211 DC
These look great for folks wanting to get good value in a game improvement club. I'd be curious to see you review some of the irons from GigaGolf; they're up near you (in Oldsmar), so not nearly as bad as driving down I75 to Fort Myers to get some clubs from Costco :) But the price seems too good to be true (basic iron sets, 5-P, are listed at $150-200), and I know you'd tell us what you really think.

@@LetsPlayThru Cool. Maybe you can do a behind-the-scenes with them, showing how they make clubs, that sort of thing.
@letsplaythru what do you think of those compared to a old set of Taylor made r7 irons
@LetsPlayThru
2 жыл бұрын
It’s been so long since I’ve hit those r7s to be honest. I’d prob be leaning towards these though, assuming the right shafts were in there.
I would guess they will go on sale for -$100 a couple times a year if Dicks follows their normal patterns. Love my older TA irons, got them year older, but new for $200 WITH a 4 & 5 Hybrid (sale previous year and Seniors shaft).
Gabe, hope it is going good. Can you do a Iron shoot out like you did with drivers. I know it would be hard to do and you would need to find a course with no one there. But a Iron tournament would be awesome.
@LetsPlayThru
2 жыл бұрын
I’d love to but not sure it’s possible to be honest. There just becomes too many variables that wouldn’t allow for a fair test. What I will try to do is break down all of the best irons of the year after I’ve had a chance to swing them
Supposedly the TA driver from a few years ago was good value/quality as well
If I still lived in the UK, I would have given these a try. Unfortunately I don't think that they will make an appearance here in Thailand. Look good value set.

From what I can tell the build quality is good. So while I can’t say for sure, I would def assume you’d have no problem getting many years out of these.

True Temper XP 85g
thanks but no thanks on the “new and improved” 845’s. Those original 845 Silver Scots were more of a players iron.
You can also order them custom fitted like any high end club along with the woods and drivers. The Tommy Armour line is very under rated. Dicks also owns Maxfli whos balls are awesome. Top Flite is also now owned by dicks and that's obviously the low quality house brand, while TA and Maxfli are high end.
