I have a carpet. Her name is Olive. She’s super shy yet rather territorially but she’s grown to care quite a lot for me. She’s a lovely young lady, my biggest concern with her is she has a bump on her nose just before her nostril. It looks like a mixture of skin infection and skin buildup from that area not shedding >.< I think she broke her jaw in the pet store leading to the infection and I’ve been trying to keep silvadine cream on it as I can but not soo much so that she’s actively consuming a large amount of it… idk what else to do other than that and try my hardest to keep her husbandry in as tip top shape as possible!! Im honestly constantly worried about her though… I’m glad to know there’s at least a couple bigger breeders out there I can kinda go to if I’m really kept up at night because of her well-being to hopefully find some help!

A visit to an experienced vet could possibly give you some answers. You could try posting it somewhere for general opinions. If you want to find my Instagram account you could send a picture there.

@@ChameleonAcademy ha, I’m kinda a social chameleon myself, but I’ll see about Insta. I love my little lady and I’m incredibly fortunate to have her. I will say though that while I try my hardest for her always, I am aware of my limitations for her as a caretaker… also I’m still only but 23 years old, I’m still rather young and naïve… I know that. To be frank, I love chameleons and I can afford to take care of a single chameleon, probably kinda debatably argue the moneys better spent elsewhere which as much as I know is true, they bring me so much joy in life so for the time being too bad parental unit. 🤣 however she deserves the best. I shot her because I knew I could do better for her than the pet store she was at was at that point. They basically just didn’t want to loose more money having her they were caring for her so inappropriately causing me to get her, and the entire setup she was in at the pet store for almost nothing considering what they had originally been asking for her. As much as I love her, if what I’m able to provide isn’t enough for her honestly to the two of you guys would be probably top of my list of who I’d like to try and either work with, maybe get help finding someone who can more appropriately care for her if you weren’t willing to have her.

Screen cages, hybrid cages, and glass cages are all simply tools. The more solid sides the more you hold in humidity and heat. The more screen the more your cage interior matches the ambient levels. So you decide how much you want to work with.

It is important to look for other signs of hydration such as whether her poop is moist. If so then she is getting water. The fact that she ignores water is a good sign, but it is always a good idea to double check with other tests like the "poop test"

Can you keep a Carpet in a screen enclosure?

The actual cage type is not what is important, but whether that cage type can give you the environmental parameters your chameleon needs. I use mostly hybrid cages in my indoors chameleon keeping because that is the only way I can get the high nighttime humidity.

@@ChameleonAcademy I've decided not to get a Carpet Chameleon but rather a Oustlet Chameleon .I know there care is simular to a Veild in some ways .Do you have any information I can look at? I have a screen enclosure with a coco fibre substrate .What do I need for a Basking light wattage? I get normal light bulbs instead of paying a fortune for a Reptile bulb .Any help would be great .I'm getting him next week and I'm from Ontario Canada
