The amazing backyard railroad of Jim Sabin - full HD program
Ғылым және технология
Today we're visiting sunny Paso Robles, CA. to check out a wonderful 4 3/4" narrow gauge live steam backyard railroad that fits on a normal suburban lot! Find out how Jim fit this railroad around his house and how he gets the engine prepped and on the track in this video.

Thank you so much for making this video. My parents lived down the street from Mr. Sabin when he lived in a prior house. He gave me a ride behind his C-16 locomotive and I've never forgotten it. I always wondered what ever happened to him and his train when he moved out and now I know. It's great to see that he's still in the hobby and that his C-16 is still chugging along. It's great to see that he has a lot more land in Paso Robles. At his old house, there was not a whole lot of space for track. Thanks again!

@@everythingisrandom9899 Well, I don't know where Mr. Sabin's current house (where this video was filmed) in Paso Robles, CA is located. I was referring to his prior house where the railroad was located at and where he generously gave me a ride one morning. That one was at 6105 McAbee Road, San Jose, CA. There are no remains of the railroad at that old address though.

@dragonwizard 2243 You don't believe the truth that I wrote above from my youth? I did not realize that you were such an integral part of my teenaged years when I, along with my brother, rode behind the C-16 locomotive in this video. You would have had to have been a part of my life back then in order to so confidently state that I was lying. Thank you for enlightening me 25+ years later to the fact that I did not know that you were there in my life during those days. All these years I thought that only my brother and I were there that day. Thank you - you have been a "big" help.

That amount of time and effort put into making that out railroad, it is definitely time well spent. That is a beautiful railroad!
Gets its fire from coal. Runs on steam. Requires "on site" engineer (NO radio control). Hauls engineer, wife, and others; as just a matter of its powerful function. Nice scenic railroad around the house (thank you Mrs. Sabin). Very serious, and beautiful, miniature steam engine. Thanks for bringing your imaginings into physical reality; Jim Sabin. More Power to you!!
Mr. Sabin, thanks for sharing your passion. What a great hobby and what a happy time you seem to have. Mrs. Sabin, you're a terrific wife to be so supportive and encouraging. If everyone in the world had a hobby like this, the world would be a better place. Best Wishes! Cheers!

Penny deserves a lot of credit for not only supporting her husband's 'train addiction' as he calls it but also enjoying it along with him. She even reminds Jim of the movie that got him hooked - Donald duck's Out of Scale!👍 14:46 People ask Penny, Is that all it does? Run around in circles? It doesn't matter if you're going around a mountain layout or just going around in circles, it's still lotta fun doing it and we thoroughly enjoy it 10:50 And we go through a gate which leads to the real scenic part of the railroad, where trash cans & air-conditioning & all of that stuff is! 😄 1974 - 1991 it takes a dream to get started, desire to keep going & determination to finish.

This is an awesome display of what someone can do in such a limit amount of space. Here is a guy that didn't complain about available space, money or time but turned off the TV and went out to play like a kid. Those that still have a passion and get excited about the simple things in life like a kid are still having fun while the rest whine complain and put thumbs down because they don't have the self discipline to do anything other then thrive on negativity. I had a neighbor that use to build these rideable trains for a hobby. I never got to spend as much time as I would have liked at his place but I loved his setup. His track was just a single track but 4 times as large with a pond. He has since passed away and all his trains and home is turned into a museum for others to see and cherish. I love your passion my friend, enjoy.
Did the man build the train or did the train build the man? That was an awesome adventure.

This right here is a micro story, of the macro story of what made America the success she has become. This is such a beautiful video. You and your wife lead a happy life. When I was a kid my grandfather was the #1 man in the province and my dad the #2 in the sugar mill, so I spent years of my life riding the steam trains and going thru miles of moving stairs that were moving the sugar sacks with me sitting on them. I had a most incredible childhood. I was riding the steam locomotive when I was like 8 years old until about 12 years old when my dad and grandfather and I emigrated to the US. I learned how to operate them and at least once a week went on a long trip to a distant farm to bring dozens of sugar cane cars back to the sugar factory to be processed. Of course, I was the only kid allowed to do that on account of my family, but I enjoyed it to the fullest. Trains are magic.

Yeah, I Love this man, too... So, systematic and so well organized. Takes a special woman to understand a guy like that.
This is a clear demonstration of how someone can get railroaded!
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing one of your passions. Not only is the construction of your entire system impressive, your presentation is outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this, more so than most of the others of this genre I've watched. I hope that engine has some type of spark arrester. I saw that dry grass along the tracks on a portion of the layout. I was on the Highway 58 fire in 1996 and the fire camp/incident command post was located at the fairgrounds there. That fire started when a homeowner just south of 58 was clearing some grass and the weed whacker hit something, causing a spark and 100,000 acres later we managed to stop the fire. Our southern fireline was the 500 kV Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant power line. The fire would have tripled in size, at least, had it gotten south of that line. We lost southeast side of the fire multiple times and when the fire reached 80,000 acres we did a 20.000 acre backfire from that power line and from a line we had worked on for 3 days on the western side of the fire. It was the largest backfire/burning out operation of my career.
I admire folks that do this, my brother built a lima Shay among other engines I guess he has four engines now
Absolutely brilliant. Keep up the good work man!
What a wonderful time I've had traveling just absorbing your train trundle around your garden! This really is a very effective way of slowing us all down, I think this simple kind of viewing is becoming more and more popular for good reason. Thank you for sharing. We film natural slow gopro walks through soulful cities in Europe but it's lovely to see someone just traveling around their garden.
