“The video for ‘Forever Young’ was shot somewhere in the outskirts of London inside an abandoned building that was once used as a lunatic asylum. It was planned the video would take place in the setting of a bunker with a couple of survivors from World War III. I remember me walking through the rotten corridors of the location during a shooting break. In one of the deserted wings, the floors were covered with paper-sheets containing medical reports of former patients. I couldn’t help but reading some of them and it was a weird sensation being confronted with these intimate tragedies while we were performing the end of the world next door. And then a thought hit me: Maybe I’m just imagining all this. What if the next document bears my name? What if I’m not a pop star? What if I’m just mad…?”

About the upcoming album 'Eternally Yours':
Alphaville, Germany’s biggest synth-pop export and creator of the legendary 80s anthems “Big in Japan”, “Sounds like a Melody” and “Forever Young”, has decided to go symphonic. The band is doing things on the grand scale and catapulting the band’s 40 years of greatest hits out of the orbit of synthesizers and rhythm machines into the world of the human sound machine, the symphony orchestra. “Eternally Yours” is more, much more, than a mere translation of the songs into the sound spectrum of a great orchestra. What it amounts to, rather, is a symbiosis of Marian Gold’s unique vocal capacities, the original Alphaville sound and the majestic power and rich timbres of the concert-hall-sized German Film Orchestra of Babelsberg.
“Eternally Yours” is about the everlasting theme of endurance and evanescence. The lyrics of songs from the past four decades were written predominantly by Gold himself. One central theme for Alphaville and Gold has always been the dream: “We really get around quite a lot, we’ve played almost everywhere, in our heads and out of our heads. All that goes into our music, into the idea of what Alphaville could be. It is like a never-ending dream. Those who hear our music hear fragments of this dream.” The title-track, specifically written for this event comes across like an amorous farewell letter. “I didn't write a single line of my own for this song. All the words and all the ideas come from Shakespeare's Sonnetts. All I did was recompile and minimally adjust them, so as to make them more singable for me.”
“All 23 musical pieces on this album have been essentially clarified by their arrangement, they’re stripped clean, released, set free. Their true nature has been revealed.” Gold and his two arrangers Max Knoth and Christian Lohr have given this album the sonic ambience that matches the musical content of its songs. The songs don’t sound overblown, either, they’re not pushed beyond their limits - on the contrary, the album has such natural, warm, even familiar tones that listening to it, you wonder why there haven’t been more symphonic arrangements of Alphaville songs in the past. Gold goes so far as to say: “When I hear it, ‘Eternally Yours’ really does sound as if it were actually the first Alphaville album - except that for forty years, it lay unreleased. We simply didn’t have access to an orchestra in those days.”
The album “Eternally Yours” by Alphaville with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg will be released with @NEUE MEISTER on September 23, 2022.

I love Forever Young, as I love so many other Alphaville songs that I consider them real masterpieces !!! 😘❤️
What Marian says at 9:08, it's pretty true, and I can say it by my own experience. On September 23rd (almost 2 weeks ago), it was my graduation day from college (I graduated from my actor career, now I'm going for the drama teacher diploma), and when the time of getting our diplomas came, the very first song on the setlist that was played at that moment was Forever Young. You know, my last name starts with an A, therefore I was one of the first people to get my diploma, and Forever Young was still playing by the time I had to walk to the front to get it, the song made the moment more meaningful and emotive. When Marian said that Forever Young was played in a lot of festivities or events, I thought "Well, he's right, the song was played on my graduation day", actually when it was my turn to get my diploma, The song was going in the middle when it said "It's so hard to get old without a cause, I don't wanna perish like a fading horse" until a certain part of the second and last chorus. And the fact that Marian said that the song is also about unfullfilled dreams, I think it also made me relate to it more, because, while I graduated and I'm gonna graduate again soon, I still have dreams that I haven't fullfilled yet, for example, I wanna be an actor and a singer, and I still couldn't make it come true, but I hope I will.

The fact that even today ...in 2022 this song , Forever Young " is loved ,is unforgettable and you are on stage ,it is clear proof that you are appreciated and admired ...you will always be on stage and in the hearts of your fans ! "Forever Young" is the first song that I heard by Alphaville and I liked it so much that I bought the album. It is a great song. However, I like many other of your songs better now after 35 years of listening to Alphaville. Right now "And I Wonder" is my favorite. You have been my favorite band since Junior High School!
I was a teen when the song came out and it made a big impact on me as I was growing up. It’s a song that I heard many times and sang many times. I know all the lyrics by heart.

Der Song ist nunmal ein Meisterwerk👍Er wird so lange laufen wie es die Menscheit geben wird. Schon gigantisch wie so eine junge Band so etwas hinbekommen hat. Forever Young to me is THE song of the 80s and probably of all time. When I watched you sing it at the Olympia Park in Munich recently, it looked like you were really enjoying and I thought to myself, how good must this song be that so many years later it is still so enjoyable to listen to as well as eternally thought-provoking. And then to hear the new symphonic version which is a wholly fresh and beautiful new take on it, wow, this is a timeless song indeed. How very blessed you are, as you said, to have written this song. Very interesting to hear the backstories behind these great songs. I have wondered about the idea behind them for years. Thank you for the great podcasts.
Aww bless you both Forever Young is more than a phenomenon it’s a masterpiece of the universal sense . I want to stay forever Young but I’m nearly four yrs into my fifties now so going ot enjoy my last decade of middle age life . Forever Young Is the some i go to when I’m trying to sleep and your voice on it is amazing and to be able to hit the high notes still without faltering is amazing ! Well, I think it was an honor that Beyonce and JayZ they had sang Forever young, their cover version, yes, great Beyonce from USA, the song is known in USA, that's wonderful and a privilege. But, personally and that is my opinion, I don't like it🤦♀️. The rap or hip hop style, excuse me, I am not fan of such music, it's ruined this amazing song, this song its not meant to be singing on the rap style, doesn't passed at all!!! ☹️ Beyonce may have a good voice, but not for this song or the style of the song,... She had performed beautifully and her voice sounded amazing, a lot of emotions... because, at the end, that is what we all want to hear and feel about a song. Music is feelings, emotions, hearts vibration and Laura 🌹did it beautifully 💗🎶....
