I work as a taxi driver in Sweden. A lot of transportation services are contracted through local taxi companies, eg "sick transports" färdtjänst, and school transports.

I even heard that it's cheaper to take a limousine than an Ambulance.. and that's just.... yeah...

That is true. A limo might be a couple hundred dollars, but an ambulance is at least $500

Interesting ER transportation issue. Here in Norway the ER actually called me a taxi to bring me over. I paid around 150 NOK and the rest was covered. And same on the return. The 300 counts towards my annual deductible which is around 3000 NOK in 2024. It includes doctors visits and medication. A visit to my GP is normally 200-300 NOK. Travel expenses for medical appointments that is prescribed by your GP will get covered under this system. So if you have to take public transportation to the hospital it will be counted.

Wow, that’s an amazing service to have. I think it’s a basic human right to have access to healthcare and that includes transportation there as well. We don’t have that in my city in the US either. I had an ambulance trip once for a dislocated elbow. The ambulance trip was $750 that I paid out of pocket despite having “good” insurance. I have strong negative feelings about the American healthcare system and insurance, and I’m a nurse!

We actually have a service like this here in Seattle, Hyde Shuttle and the paratransit service Access Transportation. Hyde is free for disabled folk and Access is usually $1.00/trip. There is a group of us working on getting transit free at point of service. It should be since we have over 50k millionaire and several billionaire residents that are not paying their fair share. My last ambulance ride was $1900, ah good times!
