Way to keep a good thought.
For anyone who knows how they played this song back then, Dickey's nod to Gregg was when he normally does a piano solo. Gregg was probably confused as to where he was in the song, seeing how he admitted how drunk he was. Dickey was covering for Gregg, not trying to cut him off. Dickey might have done some mean things, but this is not one of them.
These guys set the Standard of Southern Rock!!! This music changed the World as soon as it hit the airwaves! Fillmore East!!!!!
There will never be a greatest rock band like that I feel blessed to have seen them live over a hundred times RIP Duane,Berry,Gregory,Butch,Dickey,Woody
Anybody else ever get a speeding ticket while listening to this song!
He told me at his mom's house when he saw this video after he played Hall of Fame it scared him and embarrassed him and that's when his sobriety started for the last time. Rest in peace Greg Duane and Geraldine (Mama A)
Question for ya? What band has 4 guitar players listed as top 100 rock guitar players? That’s right my favorite band of all time The Allman Brothers Band. What a pleasure it was being a fan.
RIP Greg. They'll never be another you, or another band like the Allman Bros. Band.

This was the night that changed, Greg Allman, he was highly intoxicated, probably still grieving Duane, Rockin Roll Hall of Fame probably brought up the very beginning of all that Became the Allman Brothers, Greg Cleaned up after all them years, Rip, Greg, Butchy, Allen, ❤️⤴️🆙🙏🦅
Dickey is crazy talented, always true to southern rock
I can't say anything about Gregg here. I finally got sober myself. I do love and miss him. RIP Brother...
In Gregory's book..he said this was a low point in his addiction...God Bless Him for getting clean. Breaks my heart to see that handsome man like this...
Dickey & Warren both phenomenal players in their own respects.

Atta Way, Mike S. I agree. In Wiki and in a bio, it is said that Greg saw himself in this appearance at the R&R HoF, and it finally, finally gave Allman the motivation to go to rehab. We are fortunate that he did that in 1995-96. This gave us fans and his family and friends the gift of 2 more decades of him. RIP Greg Allman. 1947 - 2017.
Supposedly seeing himself at this event was what spurred Greg to get himself some help and straighten out. RIP to one of the best voices in rock and to the best damn band ever.
Dickey Betts is one of the most underated guitarists of all time. Used to love to see his band play in the Tampa Bay area in the early 2000’s

@@WeshopwizardI read in a magazine that he felt Gibson wasn’t generous to him in that they were not sponsoring him or giving him any freebies. So Paul Reed Smith made him a couple of guitars (no charge) & he was like yeah these guitars are good too. Never played one myself but some claim depending on the model, that you can get both Fender & Gibson tones out of them.
Overall, just glad i started listening way,way back rest in peace brothers Howard Duane Allman 1946-1971
I was lucky enough to see a happy and sober Gregg when he recorded his back to Macon album at the Grand Opera House. It was his last performance in Macon. He was buried at Rose Hill cemetery on the day he had a concert planned in Macon in 2017. Being raised near Macon by a Macon native, the Allman Brothers are hard wired into my genetics.
No dirt on this legendary southern bluesy rock band.. they are all fabulous musicians...
Greatest American band ever in whatever lineup they put out there. Warren wears that suit jacket like a hair suit!
RIP Greg Allman ...... Your rocked it and that's all that needs to be said. LEGENDARY SOUND ...

Long live the Allman Brothers I thank each and everyone of them for the wonderful soulful blusey southetn rock jazz sound that is forever endearing
Gregg is rough here I think we all know that story. just glad he made it out alive and got to jam out for another 20+ years. long live Gregg long live Duane and long live The Brothers
Holy crap. I'd never seen this performance until tonight. I was gobsmacked. Amazing work by all.
True musicians always have each others back!❤
dickey makin' that PRS swing and sing .......duane alway said: " im the famous one but, dickey is the good one"
I have seen Dickey many times, not only with the Allman Brothers but also with the various iterations of his own bands. Dickey never dissapoints and is surely one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
Man Dickie is all up in his game.

The things people criticize...wow. I am just so grateful for the collected works of the Allman Brothers Band. Like every band, artist, musician or creative genius - they had their golden age, pinnacle, or apex of their life/career. Everyone gets old and everyone will lose what they have/had. It's amazing that Gregg Allman is still with us and that the ABB has put on thousands of great shows in the last 40 years. I am grateful to have seen them so many times - in the 70's and in the last few years. Some people are so quick to judge from their hidden internet identity. I imagine they have little talent and have created/left nothing of much value themselves.

I don't think folks here are necessarily being critical, it's just more of a surprise. They've put on much better performances since this, so it's not that big of a deal.
I think God only know's how much I love this line up , pure class, raw talent - feeling a song on stage and the band around you bring's out your best - what a inspiration these Guy's have been for me as a guitarist, two of best ever!
RIP Gregg Allman 😭❤Now you are an angel....✨💫✨

Thank God for Gregg getting sober after this. I saw the Allman Brothers Band six times from November 1995 to Dickey's last show in 2000 and twice saw Gregg and Friends. His voice improved so much after this performance.

Yeah you could tell he was really struggling here. This era of the band was really pretty great though. Warren was killing it and even after Warren they got Jack Pearson and he was equally awesome. In 96 I was 14 and my dad took me to my first ABB show and we were front row center. I was having a BLAST and Warren noticed me and I was by FAR the youngest person up front. LOL! So between songs he went to Dickey and they got a roadie to bring them an Eat A Peach shirt and they signed it and walked to the edge of the stage and pointed at me and tossed it right to me with a pick from Dickey too! I've still got both of them to this day and wouldn't take a million bucks for them. I went on to see them 5 more times after that and even met Dickey randomly in a hotel a couple of years later. I also saw the original Gov't Mule during the Dose tour and holy crap you talk about dominating! What great players the ABB introduced us to!
Mr. Betts is a very melodic guitar player.
The ABB Turned me into a guitarist and I've had over 50 years now of playing. I LOVE THEM no other band like them since..Thank you so Bros 💕
Just proves Greg could preform under any circumstances! ✌️🍑🍄
Love the ABB, Warren looks like how I looked at prom
Dicky was on fire! Trucks knew that slide! Jaimoe and Derek were awesome and complemented each other to perfection! And even drunk and sick, Gregg still played the hell out of that Hammond!

Betts is so underrated. He's awesome.
the song is just so energetic - just a brilliant piece for guitar

Dickey was playing a Paul Reed Smith in this one. Warren always smokes though. A lot of times during this era Dickey would play a 335. I was a kid at this time and loved the ABB and Dickey made me want a 335. I eventually got one and it's hard to not think about Dickey when I'm playing it. Him and Clapton made me love those guitars.
Yes, the world certainly is !!! Love this tune !!! Been playing drums and singing this tune for a couple decades at least !!!!! Love it !!!!!

Wow!! I think this is the best hall of fame performance that I have ever seen!!
That was awesome.
This Was a Great Lineup with Newer member's Haynes & Allen Woody in 1995 ~ They Came From the Dickey Betts Band ~ Dickey Also Transitioned the Toler Brothers Dangerous Dan and Frankie in Drums two Fabulous Players and We all Lived in Sarasota Florida which was some little city with some of the Best Guitar players like Chris Anderson and Greg Poulos just to name two .. I jammed with these players in small clubs in the SRQ Area and I'll Never forget Those days 1970's Thru 2000's
Today I just read the news that Gregg Allman passed away at the age of 69. He was an amazing singer and incredible musician with a bluesy and soulful vibe and I loved his work with both The Allman Brothers Band as well as his solo work. The albums Eat A Peach and Live At The Filmore were both classics and they take me back to my early childhood years in Juneau, Alaska where my dad was stationed in The Coast Guard. My dad was always a fan of The Allman Brothers and would always play their music in my household a lot. They were a great band. Gregg is now reunited with Butch Trucks, Berry Oakley and brother Duane Allman. RIP.
mr. Betts has a way of caressing the strings that I've never seen before.
A performance worthy of the band.
these guys are amazing musicians. rip Greg and Duane

Crowd got so dang big as the time went it was incredible!!!! You would think people would leave, but no. More people came!!!! *More than 10 hours of playing!!!!

Gotta love 'em!
Best Band ever !.
I love the ABB for ever and ever and ever………👍😍🤩🍊🍄🎼🎤🎸🎹❤️
And a hell of a composer!
Thanks for the explanation... that makes sense
Greg had his issues when this was done.. Lucky to be alive when you consider the drinking and drug use.. I am glad he is in better health and putting on much better shows these days.. As for Dicky,, he makes it look so easy as always.. but please remember ,, each and every one of us out there have our own demons to deal with. Best bet is to sit back enjoy the music as you look at where you are yourself and not to judge others..

fricken great!
Fantastic 😅
If you focus on what you can find wrong, wrong is all you'll hear. If you listen to the music, you can enjoy it.
Allman Brothers band Forever.
que buenos han sido y que buenos son.
Warren Haynes is ABSOLUTELY a fantastic slide/guitar player and well worthy of Duane's slide leads. Duane is nodding from the other side. Dickey is always ON!! ABB music will always satisfy...just PLEASE don't EVER include a keytar player.
