I have debadged a number of vehicles over the years, I have found (weirdly) dental floss works really good for getting the badges off and ass it runs close to the tank it leaves hardly any of the glue and foam behind. I also find toluene gets any glue residue off with one wipe.

I think I would of loosed the gas tank cap. As you heat the tank gas will expand and at some point will need to excape.
