The SOC percentage will drop to about 95 percent in E-Save mode to allow some room for the regenerative braking to add power back into the battery. If it held at 100 percent the friction brakes would have to do all the braking since there would be no capacity in the battery for the power to go. I'm basing this on how my Wrangler Rubicon 4xe operates.

Retired ad agency guy here. I worked on the launch of the new Cherokee (XJ) for the 1984 model year. Beautiful vehicle and loved the utilitarian flair, Bought it under the supplier plan for, I think, just under $10K. These new Cherokees are too expensive, too complicated for some. There's a market for a more stripped down/utility version of these vehicles that's been under-served.

I agree but on the flip side no ones forcing us to buy these (yet at least) we can still get a pretty nice XJ for under 10k in 2022 dollars and if you think about it that's a pretty good deal. I just look at these as what we'll have to choose from in 10 to 20 years from now. It will definitely be interesting to see how all these electric vehicles hold up over time

gonna have to agree. 75k US is insane. Don't get me wrong, I like the new Grand Cherokee. It's a nice bodystyle and I'd even be good with the hybrid. But the way they are priced and configured, it's a hard pass for me. If I could get one with no extra screens, ordinary cloth seats, a normal radio, no air suspension etc. for under 40k it might be worth a look.

@@2010challengerRT You can probably get one like that for around 40k if you want two wheel drive lol. Car companies are pricing new buyers out of the new market and making used cars go up. Which is how I think it should be. Theres nothing wrong with driving an old car and there should be more value placed on fixing an old car rather then totalling it for insurance purposes. Any if they sell less vehicles but make the same money why wouldn't they do it? The only people this may hurt is new car dealerships.

I guess a lot changed over the last few months. Two weeks ago, I got a $70k 4xe GC Trailhawk off the lot. Leased it for $775/month with $2k down. Did I pay sticker? Heck, no! LOL! Total discounts/incentives: $12,000 ($1k manufacturer incentive, $3.5k dealer rebate plus $7.5k federal EV incentive). This is VERY competitive these days if you ask me.

Truth. There are places offering 10% off a loaded 4xe these days if you're willing to travel. That plus the tax incentives of $7500+ brings the effective cost way down. You don't see that with Land Rovers and some of the higher end competition. Plus the cost of maintenance and repairs (for people that elect to hold these for a while) is not close.

I had a non 4xe 22 new body grand Cherokee 2 row from February to June and drove it 12k miles including across country and the worst thing about these things if anyone is wondering is the air conditioner is completely underpowered and takes 20 minutes to really keep you cool on days over 90 degrees which we have had almost all summer in the south. The ac also completely drained every bit of power from the engine when it was on. On top of that the vents are positioned too far from your face so you barely feel the air hitting you unless the fan is on high. Other than that it was excellent but living with long hot summers I would never buy one again.

It's expensive, but with the dealer incentives, EV tax rebates, a trade-in (traded in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8). All-in-all, I walked out the door paying $56k. 11:00 while it is nice they have the charger included, having it in bin on the side as opposed to under the floor would probably be better. simply because if one is charging this thing often, a bin on the side is a "daily accessible cubby" and a bin under the floor is a "seldom access cubby" simply because most people tend to have a bunch of stuff in their cars, and getting to the underfloor storage can be a bit of a pain. it's a small thing, and I wouldn't really worry about it till the next gen.... provided the next gen isn't 10 years out.

Are comparable EVs worth $75,000? I mean, compared to an EV, it is worth it. A Rivian R1S starts at about $75,000, but the Rivian has all the issues that go with EVs. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe can do 90% of daily driving in 100% EV mode, but you don't have the same range anxiety for long trips because it's also a gas hybrid. For most people, that is clearly an advantage. Basically, with the Jeep, you have most of the benefits of a full EV, but none of the drawbacks for the same money.

For that price it should have a 30kw battery so at least 99% of driving would be electric and savings on gas would even out the cost over 3-5 year ownership. I hope that if/when they do a Ram 1500 plug in it will have a 30kw battery or larger. Otherwise, the EV portion would be almost worthless.

As a Jeep Grand Cherokee owner myself, I'd love to see them bring the cost down by simplifying the hybrid system a bit. For example, the starter/generator in the transmission is there, but they also have a more traditional starter attached to the engine for cold starts. I'd also sacrifice some of the battery capacity to bring the costs down. The electrical system is also probably too complicated. When they refine this setup, it could really be a good way to go, especially if gas producers start blending net-zero fuels into their mix.

I think these plug ins would be better with around 50+ miles of electric range. The X5 45e is almost there with about 44 miles of range. With charging whilst away from the vehicle in the day you could do 100 mile round trips.

I like the look a lot, but just can't wrap my brain around the idea of a 75k GC that's not something bonkers like a Trackhawk. Love the new look & interior, just can't see the value. One would probably be dollars ahead just by buying the 3.6 version, or if this came just with the 2.0 turbo. As far as the range, if one has a under 10 mi commute, this would be great for them because they would hardly ever have to put fuel in it. I have a friend who has such a commute. However, since she drives so little, she has no desire for a nice (expensive) car, she's doing this commute in a 15-year-old Dodge Avenger that probably still has less than 100K miles on it.

I was talking to the sales manager at a large Jeep dealer the other night and he thinks they killed the V8 option on the GC too soon. I do too. I feel like every vehicle Chrysler currently makes with the exception of the charger and challenger are massively overpriced for what you are getting. You can get better vehicles from other companies for the same price or less.

@@Welcometofacsistube for trucks both Chevy and Ford have much nicer interior and displays than Ram, also minus the electrical issues. Ford also has nicer interior and power train options in their suv offerings for the price. For what the Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer are going for both Audi and VW have better equipped models for the cost. The Challenger and Charger offerings give you a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to performance, I would venture to say there are only a few other options that could give you what they do for the price in terms of ICE cars. Their other offering however don't really justify the cost. There are better hybrids and other than the Hemis their power trains are lackluster. The 3.6 is decent for what it is. The ZF 8 speed is great but the weird 9 speed they use in some of the jeeps is total trash. Not sure exactly when it started but for a few years now all the jeeps, the durango, and the mid to high trim rams seem to have asking prices way above what you are getting for that money.

It does not get 56 MPGe as a combination of running on the battery and gas engine combined! Read the fine print, it says on the Monroney label under MPGe: 0.0 gallons per 100 miles/58 kWh per 100 miles. MPGe is a laboratory comparison of gasoline energy and electric energy. Burning one gasoline produces 115,000 BTUs of heat and to produce the same amount of heat using electricity takes 33.7 kWh. So how far will this car go on 33.7 kWh of electricity? That's its MPGe. What has this got to do with economy I don't know. I think this number helps to suck people into accepting EVs. It seems to work better in the lab than in real life. This number is really only good for comparing one plug-in car to another plug-in car when running on electricity only. If you want to know how efficient any car is do the cost to go 100 miles. Make sure you use the true price of electricity, by including all the fees, surcharges, taxes, etc. that the power company adds to the actual price of the kWh you use and if you use public charging don't forget any fees they may tack on to the kWh paid for.

Level 1 and 2 charging is slower, like 1 kW to 7 kW rates which can be just fine for overnight or at some destinations, there are many free L2 J-1772 chargers at public places as seen using PlugShare. 17 kWh / 7 kW = 2.42 hr, easy to calculate.
