The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - Book Review

Hello and welcome to another CanIndian Channel feature. Today I will be reviewing one of my favourite inspirational book - The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. You must have heard Will Smith or Amitabh Bachchan referencing contexts from this books. This book was published in 1988 and has sold over 20 million copies.
In a nutshell the moral of this book is “we give up on our dreams too easily, yet the universe is always ready to help us fulfill them”. It’s a short but extremely interesting story spanning on 163 pages.
Thank you for watching this video. I am in a process of adding the audio book to this presentation. Please check back soon or leave me a comment and I will notify you when its uploaded.

Alchemy is a definite process of transformation. An Alchemist then, is someone who has mastered the art and science of transformation. At a gross level, alchemy is illustrated by the transformation of low grade, heavy and gross metals, like lead, into a metal of highest vibration and import, gold. At a spiritual or human level, alchemy is the process through which a human will endure the wrenching process of; calcination, dissolution, separation, and the intense heat, pressure and darkness of conjunction, fermentation, and finally the coming back into light and life of; distillation and coagulation. Alchemy then, is the divine process of transformation of a human being into their divine emanation here on earth. It is a profound process. It is why Santiago was raised up with his dreams, and then humbled several times as his old self and beliefs were burnt out of him, until finally, he is brought back anew, to see and experience the world in all of its divine grace and beauty. That's why he is an Alchemist.

My favorite line from this book comes when he's returned to Spain and is speaking with God and says he could have gone without being beaten in front of the pyramids. And the wind simply replies, then you would have never seen the pyramids.

Great book review! You just brought me back to the time when I listened to this book. One of my favorite novels. It helped me to decide to pursue my dreams instead of material things or people (girlfriend). Then, the universe provided me with all I needed to keep moving forward; things and people. I LOVE the moral of the story “we give up on our dreams too easily, yet the universe is always ready to help us fulfill them”. Great job, my friend!

Thank you. Just finished the book. I thought i might misunderstand something so came here. For me that man who beat him is the answer to his dream(getting the treasure). Like in real life we might be hurt, tired and rejected, but if we stand for our dreams, we can possibly reach them!
