The AI opportunity: Sequoia Capital's AI Ascent 2024 opening remarks
The landscape is wide open. The opportunity set is massive. At our second Sequoia Capital AI Ascent, Sonya Huang, Pat Grady, and Konstantine Buhler discuss the way AI is already providing glimpses of enduring value, and how this technology will help us do more with less so that we can solve more problems, create more, and build a better future.

Thank you Sequoia for publishing these talks.
Love the session. And Pat was being very euphemistic. By "replacing services with software", it really means "replacing human workers with software"
Thank you so much for uploading this and not hoarding this knowledge in silicon valley. I think you are doing the world a massive favour!
This is awesome!! Echoing on that part especially, the emergence of "one-person company"!! That's exactly what we just talked about last month at a tech meeting up. Thanks for the valuable sharing!
I use chatGBT and its one of the best AI tools I've downloaded this year. Keep up the great work guys.
Thank you for making these available! Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing great valuable contents.. Great Presentation.
Thank you for sharing! Great overview! AI on top of other technologies (Networks, Compute, Clouds ...) Productivity game/revolution, From Copilots to Agents, Reasoning, Reliability, Human + Machine networks, Company like a Neural Network.
Good stuff guys. Captures the historical present and future opportunities very well
one of the best primers on value creation in AI
one of the best videos to illustrate the opportunity of AI, thanks a lot!
Insightful analysis on AI funding and its impact on technology evolution
Thank you so much for sharing this!

Great presentation! Thanks a lot
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Can we get the presentation?
Good history of tech comparisons
Good forum Sequoia
Thank you
One good "halfway point" that's good for anyone who wants to catch-up, and not feel it's dumbed down or spoonfed.
Now instead of farmers imagine what’s about to happen to millions of software engineers. These people love this so much because it will empower the business people to cut engineering completely out of the process of creating new products.
On the field of dreams metaphor. You need to capture expenses saved and revenue, not just revenue (ie F500s automating internal customer care, policy support etc).
~“future companies will be neural networks that optimize for profit”
Yes at the end of the day we can drive down costs and be better in terms of product but this will also remove the need for humans to do a lot of the work. This is ideal but in reality this doesn’t help people. It just helps the rich people richer and doesn’t grow the society to make them better. I am a proponent of tech and will be but it needs to be for the betterment of society and not just the big guys getting better
My favorite part of this video is how gleeful these investors are about creating massive labor and privacy problems, on top of the existential nightmare.

This is why capitalism doesn't work in a world of A.I. at least not in the way we do it now. Corporations will do what's best for shareholders. Which is to get rid of people.

Where should we have stopped? Before or after the discovery of fire? Steam engines? Antibiotics? I get the fear but crying isn't going to solve anything.
Great insight to the AI market but at 26:01 I guess there was a typo in node Recommend ations shouldn't it be actions?

Bro it is the word recommendations 😅. Average order value depends on product catalog and personalized product recommendations

I would be very careful with using the words “AI” and “never” in the same sentence.

Does Sequoia focus on candidate experience platform ?
20:53 lacks basic economic meaning, requires inflation adjustment. Flat for 20 years in real terms. That being said profit/worker ratio is a far better measure than revenue/worker as otherwise you're ignoring efficiency gains reflected in margin growth.

Is anyone working to create a bug-like (inspired) garden drone that can self-deploy itself (i.e. be fully autonomous) so as to indefinitely maintain the desired shape of my backyard trees, bushes, and shrubs? So, no more falling off ladders. No more a need for dangerous tree cutting tools. And no more expensive tree service calls. I'd call it ... The BonzAI Because that is the type of ground-breaking, industry-disrupting, AI product that "the market" will want to see ... soon.
I really doubt agents will take humans out of the loop entirely... they'll rather run as autonomously as users like and will prompt the human for approvals (and corrections) frequently.
@9:40 what % of that revenue is just OpenAI? Similar to a company's revenue being 80%+ tied to one customer, one should apply equal skepticism to an industry's revenue being 80%+ tied to one company. Not to say that I'm not incredibly excited and confident in the future of AI, but retconning to fit a narrative never ages well. Update: it seems like you cover this pretty thoroughly after. Well done!

Did he say AI reduces housing cost??
They are making a basic mistake trying too hard to tie the AI story to historical precedents.

Well, Sequoia is in trouble with this next generation of partners that they have. Really not impressed.
So much content yet so little meaning. It’s all the obvious these guys stated.
