Just discovered your channel… I now live in Mexico City, like quite a few other African Americans and Black people from other countries that have come here by choice (admittedly there are those from Haiti, Venezuela & other countries that have landed here due to dire situations who may have very different experiences). I feel so welcomed by Mexicans here (very much in contrast to how the U.S treats many Mexican immigrants), as I try my best to learn all that I can about the culture and the language. Here in Mexico City, I feel quite a bit safer than in many metro areas of the U.S., but of course like any major city, you keep your wits about you. Very happy & proud to be an immigrant here. Thank you for sharing this info from your travels!

The original history of the Black Mascogos ( *Mvskoke* ) is that they were slaves from British, French, Spanish, and American settlements who were sheltered by the various Mvskoke speaking American Indian tribes at one point or another. From there, they fled back throughout the Latin American world in addition to the U.S. Southern States. This shows that being Black in an Indian tribe is historically a far different experience than being Black among European settlers.

Mexican and black people have a good relationship from long time I have a lot black friends here in Louisiana
Despite being mexican myself, I find these sort of videos made by foreigners to be so helpful in finding out more about the people in my country and learning just how diverse we are. I'm from Veracruz and we have lots of black people here, with myself being a descendant, so seeing black people has been the norm for me all my life. However, I've always thought multi-generational afro mexican families could only be found here in the south, never would I have imagined there'd be afro mexicans up there in the north. John Horse's history sounds very interesting as well, and I hope they'd teach us more about this side of history that's been ignored, just like we are taught about Gaspar Yanga in my state.
