It was a clever twist about the date of first occupation, never explained, and it was quite satisfying to puzzle.out why Poirot went from describing her as dishonest to honest, during the course of the tale

Apparently, the narrator thinks Poirot speaks German and not French! Totally incorrect accent! LoveAgatha Christie, but this narration not so much.
