Or the entire season and races should be looked into. You can’t just overturn a single race that favors the outcome you look for. You need to overturn and look into every single race and potential penalties that need to be applied. Both max and Lewis got away with lots of potential penalties that season. This is the reason I think Merc pulled their lawsuit as that was a possibility to see if any more wrong doing was done that season. That would also mean Lewis first title should also be overturned and proof of manipulation of a race.

Please! I am absolutely a Hamilton fan and do not particularly like Verstappen, but when a season is that close you can point to a dozen mistakes by teams and officials that occured over the season. An early point counts as much as a late point.. For instance, in a late season race (I believe it was Baku), the tires were defective. A couple of drivers shredded their tires before Verstappen shredded his while in the lead on a late lap. Hamilton was uncontested at the front in a restart. All he had to do was finish there and he would have had enough points to make the Abu Dhabi race immaterial. On the restart, Hamilton failed to turn off the clutch used only for a standing start. As a result, he had so much understeer that he went right into the runoff lane and scored no points. Earlier in the Abu Dhabi race, Hamilton went off the track and gained a position. By rule he should have had to give it back, but it was ruled that he was forced off. That is a judgement call - not quite the same as an incorrectly applied rule, but the decision was controversial. Honestly, I don't remember if it was the other way around and Verstappen was forced after a couple of laps to give back the position. I do remember that Hamilton was the beneficiary. Hamilton accepted the race result. I have never heard him bitch about that result and he will when he thinks he is right or was treated unfairly. GP racing is so technical and so subject to judgement that there are questionable calls in virtually every race. One hopes they even out. Maybe the appeal procedures need to be more powerful, but can you honestly say that there wasn't 1 mistake by the race direct or stewards during the season that favored Hamilton. It happens in every sport. In fact that is part of the reason that sport is so interesting and people argue over results (like this) years later. This didn't even require a recap. It was clear at the time that the race director blew it. But, it was not an appealable event. This recap missed the most important part. Hamilton was past the pits when the safety car came out. Max was able to duck into the pits, but Hamilton couldn't. What was really controversial was that the race should probably have finished under the safety car, but the decision was made not to end the season that way.

I was so angry at the way the FIA officials cheated Lewis of getting his 8th world title. What it did for me was for me to lose interest in F1 so I haven’t watch it since. If the races are fixed then it’s not worth watching Had they offered Hamilton new tyres, then if Verstappen had won, I would have been happy but the FIA officials fixed it so Hamilton was bound to lose.. Massi appears corrupt and he damaged F1 integrity.

Stopped watching F1 since then. Lewis IS the legit 2021 WC. Period.

The culprits should have been arrested and punished for perpetrating a fraud on the public

You left out a lot of important facts. Massi made three controversial decisions. Each one right after Hamilton went by the pit lane off road. It was a total sham and the last three laps of that race should have been redone with the correct rules and line up.

My son and I were big F1 fans When Hamilton got robbed my son said that he has lost total interest in F1 has not watched a race since.. Have to say my interest has wanned too.. Maybe formula one officials realise the damage that was done that day and that maybe this is the reason that there a lot of British drivers on the grid today.. They probably had to persuade Hamilton not to quit the sport..Hopefully justice will prevail with Ferrari..

@@RIDE_26 Where have you been all this time? The problem is precisely that Masi let the half dozen cars between Hamilton and Verstappen go ahead, thus completely wiping out the 10 second advantage Hamilton had over Verstappen prior to the Latifi crash that stopped the race.

Max is still only a one-time champion to me: 2021 Spa and Abu Dhabi, and in 2022 Red Bull developed their car as if there wasn't a budget cap; should've been DQ'd.

If you had integrity you would also look into the over 36 track limits merc was allowed to do until RB started and was radioed to stop. Anyone with integrity would want the entire season to be looked into and not just the last race.

We already know what happened

It all started with Latifi intentionally crashing his car. If he had not cooperated, this would not have happened. Or, maybe his life would have been put at stake if he hadn't. Anyway, Latifi should be court marshalled for his role in bringing this about.

Rules in sports cannot be changed by a director. It's like saysing a football referee can change football rules during a match. In this instance the FIA was a toothless lion, scared to fight failings in the sport. They sacked the director but left the action or consequences of his action unchanged deriving the real winner the victory. Mercedes should have fought the verdict and I wonder why they did not.

That's like playing Street Fighter you having 30% health and I have 90% health and my game freezes . Then you beat me until my health 30%, whilst filling up your ultimate attack gauge then my game un freezes, who's gonna win???

during the safety car the cars must be at least one tenth behind each other but max was along side and even went ahead of hamilton and got no penalty

There was no thrilling take over if SLH was cheated

The whole incident was suspect, including Latifi's crash.His race engineer was heard saying "it has to be this lap" on the lap he crashed. Why did he actually crash? There seemed to be no reason for it and no explanation as such. Why weren't the rules followed to the letter? Surely the rule book was written to keep things like this from happening. Lewis was well in front of Max, and with 5 cars between them, there was no way on earth Max was going to win, even his father gave up watching and left the Red Bull garage. I feel that the FIA conspired to rid the sport of Sir Lewis Hamilton, by making him feel so aggrieved by their decision that he would lose the will to race. But against all odds, still he rises.

The scene was electric because everyone knew the rules where changed during race!

The day f1 lost all its credit and a million genuine fans. Even after so many years, I'm overwhelmed, appalled and anxious looking at this video.

Why do they keep calling this robbery a "controversy" the rules are clear and there's no question Mercedes & Sir Lewis were the victims of an illicit plot. And so called Race Director Michael Massi is complicit in said controversy/plot. Shout out to KZreadr #F1XED who has gone above and beyond to make all the FIA rules & regulations crystal clear in 2021's Abu Dhabi's charade. I invite all to go to his channel to see how it should have been handled. This will be the last I'll weigh in on this topic.

Brilliant recap, except you omitted that since the rules (as always implemented upto then) required all lapped cars to unlap themselves and the race to only restart until they where at the back on the same lap as the leaders. As there were insufficient laps left to achieve that Hamilton had effectively won the race and his team chose not to pit him.

The only rebuttle or justification I have seen online referring to Abu Dhabi 2021 was "at least Max won." It's fcked.

The pits should be closed under the safety car to make it fair. Allowing lapped cars to pass is also unfair to the leader. ie 21 last race.

I started my love with F1 at the start of 1959. The 2021 season was made a total mess by the organizers. Abu Dhabi was a monumental disgrace. I haven't watched an F1 race since... nor followed F1 in the media...! I only watched this video because of the clickbait title.

How many were involved in this fix? I'm amazed they managed to keep it under wraps for this long.

It finish F1 as a fair sport --- F1 is now just a show. It also advertised the fact that the FIA and the Race Director had no interest in who finished in the lower point scoring positions; the fix was to benefit Max and Red Bull only, everybody else lost.

This is BullShit.... Left half untold.... Lulu cut the corner in begining gaining position AND taking a HUGE lead NOT giving BACK to Verstappen then toward the end of the race in the last laps cars were NOT allowed to pass for many laps then only a few relavent were eventually let pass at the discression of the RD Masi... so PERFECTLY LEGAL... TOTO made the mistake not changing lewis tires.... Mercedes is the MAIN reason lewis lost....

It was NOT the first time Masi had influenced a race by making up the rules on the fly. He did it at Monza 2019 ensuring a win for LeClerc and Masi's former team Ferrari. Nobody challenged him so he was emboldened to try it again. The truth is that if Charlie had lived, Hamilton would be an 8th times champion. Mercedes won the title that was important to them so Toto didn't bother to fight for the injustice as he said he would in the aftermath. It was a decision that could never stand up in a court of law.

Thank you for your excellent recap and re-opening of old wounds that definitely signalled that Michael Massi was just the pawn in this situation. I’m sure there were a few above him that didn’t want Lewis to be known as the GOAT. We all know who was the real winner. Mercedes denied LH a pitstop after the announcement of the SC was made. LH was in conversation with his engineer on the pit-to-car radio about going for fresh tyres after the engineer informed him that MV has made a pitstop immediately after the announcement. Mercedes was fully aware of the entire situation, but still denied LH that crucial pitstop, knowing very well that he had 40 lap old and worn hard profile tyres on his car, that could never stand up to the brand new soft profile tyres on MV Red Bull. The downfall of LH 8th DWC title started and ended in the Mercedes paddock. One do not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out who was responsible for that decision. Once again the picture of Michael Masi was inappropriately added to this video. Those who blame MM for this injustice, will be judged for judging him for something he never did.

I used to watch the F1 red religiously being based in the UK I always made arrangements to go to the British Grand Prix and at least go to one overseas Grand Prix a year After this race have not watched a F1 race. Lewis Hamilton should’ve got his eighth world champion. But the powers at be took that away from him, they did not want Lewis Hamilton to break Michael Schumacher‘s record. They did not want a black man to be a Grand Prix Champion x 8 And as For Max Verstappen, he is a petulant little child in a man’s body just see his action in the last Grand Prix (Hungarian 2024) showing his TRUE colours.

Lewis was robbed! The race should have ended under a yellow flag. Mr Masi did NOT follow the rules correctly regarding restarts after a safety car period. The FIA should have overturned the result. The fact they didn't is one of the reasons I no longer watch F1. In its current form F1 is corrupt. The rules allow more than 20 cars on the grid, but the teams refuse to allow new teams to join! That is just fucking nuts!

It is time to look at the radio messages between Latifi and his team. It has emerged someone came on the radio and told Latifi " it is time to do now". Not long after that Latifi crashed by himself.

Any fixing or miss handling of regulations in any sporting event proven in court makes the result a "non event" and the entire events results are wiped. As per the FIA sporting code council. So if we get justice and wipe the event... max remains champion, as he was the leader heading into the event on race wins and joint points. And if we are to make Hamilton 2021 champion, (×8) then we would have to change the 2008 fixed result in Singapore wouldnt we? As this HAS been proven to be fixed. This would make Massa 2008 champion and therefore Hamilton x7 again.... sooooo funny how Hamilton fans obsessed with the x8 they forget the 1st title was tainted through a fixed result where he benefitted from it. Not his fault, nor was it Maxs in 2021
