I definitely agree about seeing the Lincoln memorial in person. It affected me more than I expected.

Thank you for doing the tag Steve! Great job. Very insightful as always. I have added a couple more Lincoln books to the shopping list.

I saw a complete set of Carl Sandburgs biography of Lincoln at our local used bookstore but I couldn't get it because I was on my motorcycle and they wouldn't fit in the saddlebags so I went home and was going to come back in the car but when I got back it was gone so I ended up getting Lincoln by David Donald instead because it was only $4 and in mint condition

Thanks for bringing my attention to Holzer's other books on Lincoln. Several years ago I read and enjoyed Lincoln at Cooper Union and now look forward to President Elect. Possibly my favorite book about Lincoln is Garry Wills' Lincoln at Gettysburg.

Ford's Theatre is really worth a visit if you are in Washington - it includes an extensive "interpretation centre" for all of Lincoln's life not just the assassination - one of those places where I learnt about stuff I thought I knew !

I'll never see Washington again, but I agree: everybody should go there at least once (before November, that is)
