The Abandoned Sunnyside Asylum, Scotland - Urbex Lost Places Scotland
Sunnyside Asylum ran for 230 years before it's closure in 2011, making it Scotland's oldest asylum facility. In this video, we explore the colossal site showcasing all of the key parts. We are amazed at what we find as there is many details that have survived for over two centuries!

Knights hospitaller, c9nvents, orphanages. The catacombs, the tunnels, the towns, underground. Heavy traffic. Torture. You can run, you can hide. Karma is knocking, because they never die.
I was a patient in Sunnyside in 2011, I was there the day we all got transferred to the new hospital. I was a terrible patient & managed to sneak out the ward and explore the abandoned older part of the hospital, I was mesmerised by it. Sunnyside is now being turned into a country estate and there doing a really good job of treating and maintaining the building. The large hall with a stage has been donated by company to the sunnyside residents to make a community hub and is being restored to its former glory 🙂
For over 20 years my wife and l produced and presented the most unique award winning hospital radio in Scotland. Radio Sunnyside. Our studio was located in the adjacent to the rec Hall as seen here.Yes we were the producers and presenters, and did the final show when the hospital closed down. Ann & Allan Collins Radio Sunnyside
This Hospital had a Dairy Farm attached to it my father lived in the cottage and Milked the cows for Sunnyside Hospital. Was an amazing place I also played snooker in there snooker hall in the hospital
Going through my family my dad, grandfather, grandmother and great auntie all worked in separate units in sunnyside, my dad even into the early 2000s and left just a few year before it got shut down
Grew up In Hillside and was brought up exploring Sunnyside. Main building awesome place, Rec Hall snooker and indoor bowls. The Building you call occupational Health is in fact ANGUS House. Occupational health unit was in front of this Building. Chapel of rest and morg. The building you referred to as the Infirmary was called new Hospital building, sadly nearly All gone and New buildings on the site. You never found Ward 8 or Carnegie House with the Zodiac Ceiling. Thanks for the video.
Nice place that. Loving the old cinema effect at the start, done properly. Like all your videos it's brilliant, almost no faults.

@@Urbandoned Also just noticed the slowed down "hello darkness my old friend"
Oddly, alongside the human tragedy of the place, a bear cub once lived at the facility. Brought to Montrose as a cub, the brown bear lived to adulthood before being shot and stuffed and exhibited for a while in the local museum. The poor stuffed bear is now missing, having been borrowed for a party some years ago. The Montrose Museum are still hoping for its return.
Excellent video guys. I live in montrose and was sent here to be assessed as an unruly teenager. I went to visit again (before it got closed off completely) round about the same time you made this video. I got some amazing photos..........some weird ones too. I wish it was still open now as I'm really into the paranormal and have rem pods, emf meters etc

Amazing stuff lads, me and some mates have been a couple of times and between us have seen all the buildings! It's a shame you didn't get into park villa, there's a beautiful hall with lovely murals inside!
As someone who’s from Montrose it’s so pretty but scary. Building closed years ago An hasn’t been touched . Sunny side is riddled with Asbestos . Always an idea to wear a mask

great video and well done on the history of the place,, autism, mental health, and all kind of disabilities were taken as a sign of madness,, people were sent here because no one understood back then .... p.s i've attached a wee poem that tries to understand.... The asylum is closed, we were getting freed the kitchens are closed, there's no one left to feed they decided the patients are suddenly fine and now the asylum is replaced by poison vine You used to come and see me every other week the answer to my problems you tried to seek now no one visits me, your all ashamed but your secrets are safe and your presents are framed I wished you would come and take me home Instead I just waited here, I'm all alone no one to talk to so what do I do? will I just sit here, waiting on you? I'm getting released soon, where do I go? i've been here so long now, I do not know tell me why am I here, I committed no crime but I'm ready to leave now, it's the end of the line the scream of the patient is filled with dread I'm was that patient and now I am dead my body is gone, now my ghost is free to roam sadly the asylum sits empty but it was my home do ghosts light candles or sit in a chair do ghosts cry when there's nobody there I waited so long for you to come, I actually died at my funeral can you honestly say you cried but just remember that I could not be saved I'll forgive what you done when you visit my grave i'll stand right beside you while you remember me and you live in the world that I did not get to see

Good video again, love your videos and your editing.
I think the building you guessed was built in the 1930s is older than that, 1800s I think.
Another brilliant video guys so very interesting
I often wonder what it would be like to go back in time and show people what will become of their building
Brilliant! Thumbs up 👍
My parents used to tell me that when I was bad too. 'you'll end up in the jaggy Jersey home!' cause the kids in these places had to wear horrible serge shirts and dresses. Very sad.

Cracking video! Subscribed!
Does anyone actually believe that a civilization would build such a beautiful and magnificent structure for CRAZY PEOPLE? Amazing how all of these mental asylums popped up all at the same time in the mid-late 1800s. We're to believe that these amazing structures were built with technology like horses and buggies. I don't believe all of these asylums all over the world were built in the 1800s. And, I don't believe those who live in this latest incarnation of civilization built them. If you look at how many asylums like this one are all over the world we're talking in the thousands. If you look at the population during those times, there wouldn't be a need for thousands of asylums. It doesn't add up when you actually look at the population data.
Great video.
I often wondered if my former wife spent time in here. She had some odd behaviours at times. A couple of family members dropped hints a couple times that made me wonder.

Just stumbled across your other video after watching ronin, your videos have better soundtrack and information than any other explorer page I’ve seen and I’ve watched big names on urbex etc, I just don’t understand why you don’t have millions of subscribers, please please keep going and exploring as much as you can you will make it!! Have you got Patreon set up for donations I didn’t notice as that’ll help with the cost of explores 🙏🏻❤️ much love
Well done
How do you find the places you go
I wish I had your guts :( Set up this channel and all I've seen is a farm and a couple of graveyards. Haven't got the guts to go to a place like this. I live about 1 minute away from an abandoned hospital as well ... smh. I'm in Scotland as well so it's not like I'm short of places to visit.

It gets the adrenaline going, it's different, be careful. Just go and do it, you will love it...it's addictive What I hate seeing is, damage by kids and vandals, we have history around us and kids smash stuff up.. I, like you, and most urban explorers revel in abandoned, untouched buildings...time stops in those places the moment the last lock is locked.
Lovely. Desperately want to do this now.

"to be restored/renovated" ---- For accommodation?? "Removal of teeth to cure their madness"??? Geeezus. Live there? No me. Not on your Nelly. Places like this should be razed to the ground to create a beautiful landscaped park. Bring some peace to the land.
