The Abandoned Cabin That Was Never Completed
Ойын-сауық
In this video, I explore an abandoned cabin that has been sitting with zero changes for years. The cabin was never completed and now sits abandoned in the mountains.

As long as it has that nice roof it will be a viable building. The dry climate has preserved it.
Actually it belonged to Buck tooth Arnold of Witchita Kansas who wanted to get away from people, he had seen alot of the world and just withdrew from society but sadly passed away shortly after building his cabin . Cheers 👍
I'd clean it up an use it, leave it unlocked so others could use it also, leave a log book in it so peeps could sign it, like they do for other cabins.
i will be moving in there soon.
It’s also possible that the person that built it was scammed by a land scammer! Scammers sell land they do not own all the time! This is why all closings must be done with a local real-estate law firm! Due diligence is mandatory!

What a fantastic place that would have been. The view is fabulous. A nice place to relax
The cabin was built by Frank Lantz, of lamar col. Yes he had a mineral claim, that was worked until june 2005. Frank was a retired gentleman, who was also a geologist., he went to Tahoe City.

@S.Tracy his daughter and son began it as a place for their father...but the claim went sour, and all was abandoned, it is now owned by BLM. My brother sold powder to him and other equipt. That is all I know.

Someone did a lot of work on that, and spent some money on the ladders and stairs. I'm surprised that stuff hasn't been taken and scrapped. That set of stairs alone is worth quite a bit of money.
Great explore! I like how you film most things in detail and give the viewer time to look. Even more focus on all parts and items would be amazing! I also like how you don't pan the camera around too fast to see things, like most other channels do. Keep it up! Can't wait for the next vid

If being built on pubic land, illegally, the builder would have been forced to remove every stick of wood and material to return it to natural.
Clean it up and make use of it, nice weekender..love it thanks
Bernie D gave the answer regarding who started the cabin. Several possibilities regarding other unfinished cabins people run across in mining districts. They may have either got permission from whomever owns a patented mining claim or they were the owners of the claim. If there is a patented mining claim, it's private property. Maps don't always show patented claims on National Forest land. Another possibility is it was a regular annually-renewed mining claim and the claim holders wanted to get it patented. One of the stipulations to patent a claim required the owner to build a permanent structure. This cabin may have just been used to fulfill the requirement, kind of like a prop. There was a moratorium put on patented claims in 1994. Perhaps they were in the process of fulfilling the patented claim process when the moratorium was enacted and they were SOL.

Can’t u go to the County web site and find the owner? I can’t imagine any County lacks one now-it may be siting there waiting on someone to pay taxes and claim it
some ole coot was building his hideout in a desolation place way off the beaten track! plywood puzzle siding a real scraper , blm probably didn't`t know because they don't venture off the path so much. he probably died with his boots on.. happy trails always...
Yeah, the BLM doesnt take kindly to people squatting public lands. More than likely the persons building this was ordered off the property. I'm surprised it wasnt torn down. Good video. Thank you.

Thats for sure, ive seen a few places where the BLM had people take down fences and small buildgs etc that were on BLM land without permission. I agree it is suprising the cabin was not torn down, as a lot of modern non historic structures get torn down that are located on BLM land.

Pretty nice cabin. Wheres it at so I can move in.
That's nothing. Up near my house in North Park Colorado there is an abandoned log house that was designed to be 110,000 square feet. It's mammoth. The logs are up to 15 feet in diameter. Much of the outside is done but the inside is far from complete.

Take some footage and post it, i'd love to see that!! EDIT: Do you know who was building the home, something that size would most likely be news, no?
Nice... It would be a nice place to go camp out for a day or 2 at a time...
You didn't say what state or city,,, miles from.....would liked see more area around it ...
Man had a dream, sure looks nice for what it is probably too nice of a build lol.
What state and kind of climate is this in? Doesn't look like a rainy area. If a government agency told the builder it was illegally on public land, wouldn't the agency have torn it down? That's what I'm given to understand happens in such cases. Nice place whatever the story is.
My bet is that they bought a mineral claim and was under the impression that they could build a nice little summer get away home there. Many people lost a lot of time and money falling for that scheme back around the 90s and early 2000s. Unless the claim is patented you may not build anything at all on it. You can't even leave a trailer there unattended.

It could have been really nice, looks salvagable
The building well built. If on Forestry land they are missing a opportunity here. By having it finishes. It could be rented out and make some money out of it.
Maybe they went to town and got sick.and passed away..
Inspect the golf bag. Often times, golfers have personalized name plates from company tournaments and such. Possibly ID who did this. Likely perished somewhere else during construction.
I'd be fixing that place up.
If your interested in this place, ALWAYS check on who's land the place is on. The BLM will lie. The county usually is the best place to check. It looks like something happened that who ever started the project couldn't finish it. ALWAY'S do your homework. Great video, keep them coming!
