Glad the video helped! You can do only so much with printed instructions. I'm more of a visual, hands-on learner.

I really appreciate Dave Boyt, what a genuine gentleman. I currently am struggling through the HD38 assembly with the Honda engine upgrade, 4' deck extension, hyd power pack, hyd log roller, hyd clamping system, hyd log dog and hydraulic log loader. As a newbie, I'm struggling through the process. I give the directions a C-. The boxes listed are not accurate and items that are supposed to be in boxes are in other boxes. I would really be struggling if it wasn't for the videos that Dave put together (hopefully he was compensated for those videos). Furthermore, the directions are not built for assembling with options. So, I am relegated to assemble the mill IAW the basic mill then dis-assemble and reassemble with the options. I'll follow up with another post when I'm done.

Dave. Thanks very much for your instructions, guidance and videos. My HD38 frame assembly is complete. Moving on to Sawhead and Carriage Assembly and your associated video. Great work. BTW I too found several ways to do things “wrong”. But your sage advice kept ringing in my ears and I finally figured it all out.

Dave this is the best assembly I have seen on KZread you take the time to explain every detail without speeding up the assembly like most other videos do, from keep up the good work you do on all your videos from Ontario Canada

I just got the log deck with trailer package put together for my HD36v2 last weekend. As I started to assemble the saw carriage and had an issue I found that one of the plastic guide blocks was broken 😭 ..lol I'm waiting until Monday morning I'll give Norwood a call and hopefully get one asap I can't wait to get rocking with this mill.

Dave - Thanks very much for your instructions, guidance and no-nonsense help. I am still assembling my frame package but I have found your instructions to be so much better than the manual. I really wish they would get a tech writer to sit down, watch your videos and document the steps in a much clearer fashion. I have found your tips to be of the utmost help and the few times I "violated" a suggestion I usually ended up going back and doing it the way you suggest in your video. For anyone who buys or considers buying this mill in the future please watch and re-watch the videos carefully, so you don't miss any nuances. It saves you so much time. One funny comment is there are several commercial breaks, and it is always funny to see a competitor's ads (Wood Mizer) show up. I think Norwood needs to produce some commercials for KZread that will fill in during those gaps.

I'm glad you found it helpful, Joshua. Lots of nuts and bolts, and at some point, you just need to tell yourself "if I keep putting things together, eventually I'll have a great sawmill". There is a lot of communication with Norwood tech support & engineers behind the scenes, all with the goal of making the assembly and operation go smoothly. Hope you get to do some milling before winter weather sets in. Please keep me posted.

Sounds good Eric. That must have been a looooong 9 weeks, but you'll have it put together in no time. Just take your time and think things through and you'll have a great sawmill. Hope you'll keep us posted on your progress.

@daveboyt6810 thanks Dave! I am complete except for parts (muffler, various specialized bolts, e r c) that were missing. I'm Aggrevating, but been patient for over 2 months... I did wear out your other videos as well. Including the hydraulics on the hd36. I have the jd38, but was still relevant. Unfortunately, I'm waiting for the log loader and roller still. Those were backorder in November.

Hi, we are assembling ours, we are not done yet but we are worried because the rails that are closer to the inside where the joint are they are not leveled and we where wondering if we need to fix this now (if so how ) or continue and it will level itself out? We know that if it stays like that the wood will get caugh in it. Any advice would be awesome. Thank you in advance.

Invest in a pair of carpet layer's knee pads. Sure could have used 'em when I was putting the frame together. Let me know how it goes for you.

Just watched your video I’ll have my HD 36V2 delivered Monday . Can you tell me the difference between the sawhead on a hd38 and hd36v2

I've watched your 3 videos in preparation to put my new HD36 together. I haven't seen information on where to locate items like Jack stands, axles and other attachments when building with a 4' extension. Am I missing that info or could you let me know? Thank you in advance.

The video is just for the standard length. I did add an extension to an HD36 a while back. Here's the link": kzread.info/dash/bejne/e4WYyNVqc9XHhbg.html. I did not move the axle, so it has very light tongue weight without the hydraulics, but it seemed to tow ok. Hope this helps!

How is the durability of this mill? Seems like a lot of nuts/bolts holding this together. Lots of maintenance? Are the cross bunks strong? Seem thin compared to other mills have for the logs to set on?? I’m just curious, looking for a mill. I have lots of questions

I've run Norwood mills for over 10 years and had no maintenance issues related to the frame or other nut & bolt fittings. Maintenance is similar to what you'd run into on any other mill-- change engine oil, grease the bearings, adjust tracking & blade guides, & keep sharp blades on it. I really like the cross bunks. I've never bent one, and the wood chips and sawdust fall off the narrow top edge. Watch videos of mills with wider cross bunks, and you'll see the sawyer have to sweep them clear of sawdust when turning the log.

I wish I had this video 2 months ago. Assembling the bed off the instructions is miserable.

Yea no shit... after it took me 3 hours to get first page figured out (only one bunk and 12 bolts installed) I HAD ENOUGH... found this video hoping it's better than this from here... terrible manual, unbelievably bad way of organizing the information to make sense of anything. Smh

You don’t show how to add the extension and where the jacks would go

I just made my first cut with my 36, love it but having problems with the clutch. Will see how it goes.

What problem are you having with the clutch? If it doesn't disengage, your engine idle may be set too high. If it seems to slip, it might be a loose drive belt.

@@daveboyt6810 Hey Dave, I have already spoken to Tom at Norwood.The problem is that as soon as the engine is started the blade rotates. I've read some of the blogs on Norwood's Web site and apparently it's a problem. Tom says to run a few logs through it to see if it stops but so far it hasn't. Otherwise I love the saw.

@@gmrocwater9922 Just out of curiosity,, if you activate the emergency stop (so the engine doesn't start), does the blade move when you crank the engine over? If so, the problem is in the clutch itself. What is the idle RPM? There is a free smart phone app that listens to the engine and displays the RPM. The engine should idle at 800, and the clutch kick in at around 1250. While you can mill without the clutch disengaging, this is a serious safety hazard. Please keep me posted (and be careful).

@@gmrocwater9922 Sorry, I was incorrect about the rpmsj. On the first run-up, the tachometer was reading half of the actual rpms. The engine should crank 1600 at idle, 2500 at clutch engage, and 3200 at full throttle (cutting speed). The third video in the series shows normal operation at 46:26. I added an extension to an HD36 with the trailer package without changing the position of the axles. It changed the balance so there was only about 40 pounds of tongue weight, but I never had a problem with it. If you want more tongue weight, you can easily change the locking bracket so that the carriage rides a little further forward. You just need to be careful when making sharp turns, as the back of the mill does swing wide of the turn.

Hey Dave, started putting my HD38 together yesterday. Quick question if you have time. I'm at the point to check square on the frame and haven't tightened any bolts (other than the cross bar) yet. That being said, the ends have some play which is affecting how it shows to be true. Just for clarification, a corner may show square but because of the play in the ends you can move it either in or out. Do you slide the end caps all the way in and tighten those first?

I'd recommend you tighten down the cross bunks and square the frame to them. The easiest way is to get it as close as possible with a carpenter's square, then use a tape measure to check the diagonals across the front and end crossbunks to double-check. Then square the end caps and tighten them down. Hope that makes sense.

If you want the honest truth the catalog of instructions suck. They leave steps out. You turn the page and the picture will show things done but they never tell you how to do it. The picture shows one thing but the mill I have doesn’t have parts that look like that. I don’t know how big a company Norwood is but they didn’t put a whole lot of thought into the directions. Sad because these things aren’t cheap and putting them together when you’ve never done one is a giant pain in the arse.
