my wife just got me a 13 gallon still just like that. pretty nice. I ended up not using that little worm. I modified a 5 gallon stainless pot with a 20ft copper worm instead and then custom built a kitchen setup for my still on my property. turned out nice. it motivated me to build a whole moonshine shack on our cabin property. made for a great Father's day for me. love your videos.

John I too have the 13 gallon Vevor and am worried it’s too big for what I need. What’s the minimum wash you can put in your 13 gallon pot? Also what heat source are you using in the house with that size pot? I’d love to chat with you sometime as you did exactly what I want to do. Thanks Rick.

@@rickalford there is no minimum but in reality id say dont run it lower than 30-40% depending on heat source and its both efficiency and its ability to cover the whole bottom of your still as if it creates hot spots you will burn much quicker on a small amount vs a large amount really depends on heat source I personally use a double burner setup thats one of those plug in too the outlet cook tops I loved the vevor first couple runs but after that I feel like vevor shafted me with how much is going wrong after keeping clean af everything that can rust or corrode has been doing so mid run after the first couple runs... and i was offered a 20$ credit for their fk ups moving on lesson learned build a still along with my own custom electric burner setup to fuel it

Beer homebrewer exploring the idea of distilling. Very interesting!!! I will look at your previous videos to see how this is done. Very interested in such an affordable point of entry into the hobby. This still sells at Home Depot!!! Will learn more before I purchase anything. Of course, as a beer maker, I'm interested in making whisky, so I have much more to learn before I buy anything but this video was very helpful. Thank you! You've got a new subscriber! 😁

I bought that still a year ago when I first started distilling and I have learned a bunch from using it and make pretty damn decent liquor with it that's for sure I make 10 gallons of mash at a time run a stripping run at 3 gallons at a time so 3 stripping runs then a spirit run after I've collected all the so 4 runs to get about a gallon of likker all proofed down but it's worth it

Wife bought me the same still. My initial run, I figured out that the thumper was missing the down tube. I noticed you were thinking the same thing, out of the box. I see you used the silicone tube to attach the copper tube. I drilled out the fitting and added a copper tube. The booklet shows that short silicone and copper tubing, as an extension extension for the output nipple. But it should work well, the way you did it. Getting ready to start some real mash. There's a recipe in the booklet for some sweet feed moonshine, that has me intrigued. I had to chuckle about another recipe for "Good Whiskey". As opposed to bad Whiskey? 🤮

Interesting Question since I'm the kind of guy that likes experimenting: Can you, in theory, use JUST the Thumper and the Condenser to distill 1/2 or 1/3 of a gallon of alcohol? So you put the boiler away and you get a simple stopper screw for the inlet of the Tumper and you just use the outlet+tube+condenser as they are normally hooked up. I'm just thinking of simple Gin-like experiments where I do just a single bottle + some herbals to see what I get. Then if I'm happy I can scale up. What do you think?
