they made a new plinth for the statue in 2008, which had a series of reliefs on it. One of them depicted a person being pushed in front of a train driven by the Grim Reaper. needless to say, management freaked out.

Alastair does make me laugh. "I love the risk, thats all I'm saying on the subject"; he knew that statue was god-awful.

It's all subjective. I think the statue is incredible, and an excellent piece of work, with fantastic attention to detail while telling a story of railway travel through time....

The artist started chatting so much shit when he realised they didn't like it.

The statue can't be an ordinary mall statue, but any slight deviations from the ordinary, like buttocks or shoes are of course out of the question.

the contrast between this programme and the 3 part crossrail one is glaring, that was informative . this is just a reality show about "personalities" who gives a fuck if wankers in suits get their bonus?

That Mike character was outdated even by noughties standards. Thank Christ those types have all but disappeared from the workplace. Absolute hack job on the statue too, a blight on an otherwise great project. The ‘artist’ was in complete denial too

Having weatched the last 3 episodes, I thought this one a little 'different'. It did seem to be full of santimonious gits full of self importance. Yuk, ...give me the honest, down to earth engineering contractors anyday.

There's a statue? I've been in and out of St. Pancras many times from the Midland Main Line and don't recall seeing a statue

Isn't he Mike Ludee, don't how to spell his name, from Gatwick airport? The one who bailed out trying to sell the airport to airlines during it's construction?

On my few trips every so often to London, UK to visit relatives, I think the statue is ugly, the station staff are rude and unhelpful and the things are over priced. Nearly £4 ($6 dollars US) for a coffee! Rip off!

In the same vein, why do people like the West Coast Main line, or the East Coast Main line with the Firth of Forth Bridges, why do people travel the Settle Carlisle Railroad. Why do a lot of tourists travel on the Highland Line? The Hoellentalbahn (literally Hells Valley Railway) in germany, or the Schiefe Ebene, why do they choose to take regional trains over the Loetschberg instead of the Intercity through the tunnel? Think about it, then you might know why.

Why is Saint Pancras so special? It's just plain beautiful. On the other hand, it's sad that they demolished that viaduct. Why does one travel the Albula line? Not for speed, not for getting there, but for the unforgettable railway line. Same for the Bernina. Traveling by Railway shouldn't only be about getting there, but the journey itself. And that's why I hate air-conditioned trains, where you can't open the windows. It severs your link to the outside. Aside from the AC being unreliable.

That kissing statue at St. Pancras is hideous, completely vile. An example of when largesse makes you blind to taste and style 🤮🤮🤮

What waste of time to make PR about a statue. A statue is only a detail about the station. People use train’s to travel to their destinations. So tell the public why st pancreas station is so special in comparisons to other stations. Is it the fast train routes, the number of train routes that stops in st pancreas or something else? I come from the Netherlands so I can’t tell what is so special about st pancreas. But it isn’t the statue I know that for sure.
