... And it's incorrect. The term (western) classical music covers all eras of European music (medieval, renaissance, baroque, classical, romantic, modern, and all subgenres). The difference is that one is written with a capital letter, and the other is not.

In my opinion it's Romantic era 1820 - 1880. I would put expressionism/impressionism 1880 - 1940. And then the "modern" era.

Yep, Late Liszt (1880s) produced a number of impressionist/expressionist pieces. Also of course that's when Debussy, Satie, and other composers known in impressionism began composing.
