    1996 was worth a mention. Buddy Lazier a few months prior at a IRL race in Phoenix wrecked breaking his back. He would show up to the month of may walking witch a cane and a special padded seat the team made for him for the race. Not only would Buddy lead the race, he would go on to win the race after a last lap dash to the finish. He was in such a tremendous amount of pain that he couldn't stand for the victory celebration. So in front of the whole world. He sat in his car with the wreath around him doing the winners interview.

    Also tons of brazillians came to IndyCar and it was still a decent talent. Raphael Matos, Bruno Junqueira, Cristiano da Matta, Enrique Bernoldi, Ana Beatriz, Rubens Barrichello, Matheus Leist, and Pietro Fittipaldi (Also the legend Emerson himself). One was missing was Felipe Massa, but he seems building some grudge to the series for whatever reason he got

    >mentions the 2002 Castroneves/Tracy victory debacle >doesn't mention the yet crazier 1981 Unser/Andretti victory debacle Seriously, that was one messy puddle of weirdness. It says a lot that even 30 or so years after the race's end, neither party can agree on who won, so Andretti ended up with the ring while Bobby got the Baby Borg. Also, the 1994 Mercedes-Ilmor 500I. Had Fittipaldi not binned it near the end, he would have been a three-time champion simply because that engine in the Penske cars was just about touching the boundaries imposed in the rules. Not forgetting the mid-race shenanigans that involved about half a dozen cars including one Nigel Mansell, who refused to go to the hospital out of sheer anger.

    -Alexander Rossi victory was insane. He end the race and won without fuel. -Takuma Sato also was incredible. See win a japanese a INDY 500, anybody didn't expect that. -Indianapolis debt with Tony Kanaan. Kanaan was going to win the INDY 500 of 2006 (or 2007, I don't remenber), but in the middle of the race, the rain appers. The race could officialy over and Kanaan win the INDY 500, but not, Kanaan wanted continuing the race. The rain stop and they continous the race. Later, Kanaan enter to pits for change tyres and the rain is back and the officials declared the race is over and Franchitti won his first INDY 500. Kanaan lose that race after dominate that race. Year after year, all the fans and the people of Indiana says to Kanaan "Indianapolis got a debt with you", and in the 2013, Kanaan won his first INDY 500.

  • @DanielLearmouth

    @DanielLearmouth

    6 жыл бұрын

    Basically, USAC are weird. Although the circumstances under which they passed the pace car were different - Jacques passed it under caution as the cars were being collected, and Scott passed it under the impression that the lights had gone green. He was given a stop-go, but disobeyed it, so he ended up, after Lap 195, not having any more laps count to his total. The best bit is, the team were under the impression that Villeneuve's penalty had been waived. That was a weird race...

    Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Ralph DePalma at the Indy 500 in 1912 was pretty crazy. Huge lead (led pretty much the entire race), then on the final lap his car broke down. And DePalma and his mechanic pushed the car to the finish line. He didn't win that race sadly, however in 1915 he managed to win the Indy 500!

    I think 2 great storys are missing: 1st Alex Rossi winning the 100th Running of the Indy 500 in 2016 as a rookie 2nd In 1931 Dave Evans managed to drive the whole 500 miles in a Diesel powered car without a single pit stop

  • @TomBoi
    @TomBoi6 жыл бұрын

    The 100th Indy 500 in 2016, towards the end of the race with about 50 laps or so left it became a fuel mileage race. Alexander Rossi would take the checkers and then run out of gas shortly after. If he hadn't had won he would probably be still struggling to get an F1 ride to this day. Andretti Autosport picked him up the next year and he is doing pretty well now.

    Leading the field by 10 or so seconds, Jimmy Broadbent trusted the chatto and ran out of fuel 5 laps before the finish. He made a pit-stop in order to fuel up but he was caught off with an unsafe pit exit and came back into the pits the following lap to serve a penalty. Gotta love pretend race car drivers.

    That JR Hildebrand one was interesting. One of the first 500s I can remember. Crazy finish to lose it on a mistake when there's no way you don't win. And then to almost win on 3 wheels. So close yet so far. But what happened later that day in Charlotte made it even crazier. Dale Earnhardt Jr ran out of gas in turn 4 to loose the coke 600, one of Nascar's crown jewels. Why is that significant? They were both in the national guard car, both lost in turn 4, on the same day. Pretty crazy how those things happen huh?

    Not a crazy one but I cried this year when Justin Wilson's brother led for a few laps near the end before pulling into the pit for a late stop. It was planned that way so that the Wilson name can be on the board of drivers who've led laps in that race. It's an important list in the minds of Indy fans. The main reason he did it was to help promote organ donation. IIRC, Justin's decision to be a donor saved 5 lives when he was killed a few years ago. "Bad Ass" Wilson was one of the sweetest racers there's ever been and I still miss his presence in the races :'(

    Sonova HD incorrect on both counts. IndyCar actually has the largest variety of teams of any paved-only racing series.

    I wasn't talking about teams. My problem is that on the oval tracks, such as the track used in indy 500, the most interesting moments seem to be cars crashing. I generally don't like nascar and Indycar because of the oval tracks with little to no variation. I find F1, Moto Gp, ANd Wec to be more interesting because of the different tracks. I'm also not a huge fan of the way USA does certain things. Like Tv. I find the commentators to be extremely boring, and the shows they do before the races, are a bit weird. Like when military planes fly over the stadiums for no apparant reason. I'm aware that many other countries do things like this, but USA seems to do it more. (I'm not hating on your country or anything. I'm just not a fan of how things are done in USA when it comes to sport, food, tv, Etc) But if you love Indycar, then why? i might be wrong when i'm saying it's boring. I'll admit, i haven't watched many races. But can you explain what makes Indycar so appealing for you? Btw i'm completely aware that not all indycar tracks are ovals. And i'm also aware that there are differences between the oval tracks. Some are variations of circles aswell.

    Emerson Fittipaldi vs. Al Unser Jr in 1989 was a good finish. Both drivers went side by side into Turn 3. Unser Jr crashed and his race was over. While down the back straight he gave Fittipaldi a thumps up as he went by under the caution.

    I knew that first one would come up, but here's what this video didn't tell you: Dan Wheldon actually drove the car JR Hildebrand drove the previous 2 years, finishing 2nd at Indy both years. The year before Dan took over, Vitor Meira drove that car & in 2008 he also finished 2nd at Indy. The split between Dan & that team, Panther Racing, wasn't pretty. Dan essentially got his payback in 2011 with that Indy 500 win, dealing Panther Racing their 4th straight 2nd place finish in the Indy 500, in his first start of technically 2 that season. ... There was a third, but, we *don't* talk about that third event. 💔😭

    1995 Indy 500 qualifying. The history of Penske failing to get in the show is such a spectacular story of failure because of the lengths the team went through to try to get Little Al and Emmo qualified, but only for them to end in vain.
