They sent the kids to school like what was happening was perfectly normal. I wouldn't send my kids anywhere and I wouldn't be sticking around in that area. It's like these people have never seen Independence Day. Lol.

If aliens were smart enough to travel the crazy distances between stars and they intended to destroy us, we realistically wouldn't stand a chance against them. They would be masters of technologies that we can't even fully imagine, it would be like trying to explain how nuclear bombs work to a chimpanzee.

Absolutely right. Even jumping in technology using reverse engineering we are so far behind it would be pointless. But that wouldn't make a good movie.

Major spoilers ahead so read at your own risk but: The aliens weren’t trying to destroy humanity, they were trying to majorly weaken them. The aliens had implanted their consciences into humans, and are trying to settle on earth. And for the fifth wave to work they need to indoctrinate a lot of people, and the easiest type of people to indoctrinate are children.
