Soundgarden also used Ostrich tuning for the song "Mind Riot." SG is famous for their many tunings, BADGBE and DGDGBC are my favorite alternate tuning from them. BADGBE isn't that weird, but they use it for 3 different songs and get pretty creative.

Converge and Mastodon use AGCFAD (Which is BADGBE tuned a step down) in many of their songs, I think Cave In also uses it pretty frequently (Albeit tuned only half a step down)

What about CGCGGC... Ben Howard used this tuning in his song “Old Pine.” It is a STRENGTHCHORD (or one giant power chord) I believe and it is really beautiful. You could do a lot with it I’m sure!

Hey man. Just listen to the Soundgarden. They got a lots of alternate tuning and so much fun to play. They used ostrich tuning on 1991 Badmotorfingers album and the song was Mind Riot. Alternate tuning, odd time signature, Chris Cornell sing and play guitar, rock and roll. What more I can say? They're legendary

I was going to suggest that you need to do a dedicated video just on Shawn Lane but then you'd have to play some of his songs and I reconsidered: it would be kind of cruel for me to request you do that: man was a technique monster. He was possibly even faster and more impressive on Piano btw.

A cool tuning I came up with recently was B, Fb, Cb, Gb, B, Cb. And for bass I play on a 7 string bass tuned in Cb, E, Gb, Cb, Fb, B, E.

My favorite alternate tuning I discovered was popularized by Third Eye Blind and used in Wounded DADEAC#

I've been playing DACEAD for a while now, and it's brilliant. You get easy chord shapes in the low strings with using 1 or 2 fingers, while still having 2-3 fingers free for melodies on the more traditional high strings.

I like how your shirt blends with the light coming through your blinds hitting the back wall.

This tuning is by far the WEIRDEST. I only know of it being used in one song. Its Incinerate by Sonic Youth. The tuning goes: D# D# A# D# G g. Check it out the song slaps.

Have you ever done a video on Open D5 tuning (DADADD)? The only guitarist that I know of that uses this tuning is Mark Tremonti. I think this tuning is great. It can sound so beautiful but can also sound so evil.

There's a song from Coldplay called '42' which uses FFFFFF tuning. Coldplay used to play with lots of crazy tunings back in the 2000s

Here's a few I tried & use at some point: - C G D G B D - Eb A D G Bb D (Phoebe Bridgers' Smoke Signals) - E G# C# F# B Db (William FItzsimmons) - The last tuning mentioned in this clip but in Major (D A D F# A E) - E A D G B D# - E A D G B D - E A D G# B E (Julien Baker's Funeral Pyre) - D A D G B D - Bb F B Eb Bb B (band Cult Leader)

I use open Csus2 for some tasty heavy music, CGCGCD. Devin townsend uses this as well.

C G C G C D, a really cool acoustic sound 👌

Not sure if you covered this one, but Joe Beck, Frank Gambale, and Pat Metheny have all used a variation of a "Baritone Nashville" tuning. The only differences between the three players is how low or high the tuning is, but the relative tuning between the strings is the same. One example is Metheny's tuning on "Don't Know Why," (watch?v=BntNRMiI4PQ) which is A1-D2-G3-C4-E3-A3. The 3rd & 4th strings are an octave higher than they would normally be (like in Nashville tuning), and the 5th and 6th are an octave down. Super cool tuning for solo stuff, as it has a wide range. Craft guitar tuning (if you didn't cover it): C-G-D-A-E-G. All fifths except between 2 and 1. Very wide tuning that's quite versatile. California Guitar Trio. My variation of that, plus adding a David Wilcox tuning of C-G-C-G-C-E: C-G-C-G-C-F. Really versatile and great for solo stuff. I play "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" in that tuning.

If you take that ostrich tuning, a bit of distortion, play a harmonic minor scale on the highest string but strumming all the other strings as well, you get a sound very very like a sitar. I learned this from fabulous blues woman; Elaine Mcelwain.

Try this awesome low tuning i've invented: A E A F# A C# (you can transpose it however you want. I tuned it in this way due to tension problems on my classic guitar. I am using this tuning all the time btw)

I remember 30 years ago trying to figure out the chords on velvet underground and Nico and I could never get the freaking sound right because I had no idea what the hell he was doing.

You'd be surprised to know that Lou didn't always use Ostrich; he most of the time used standard guitar tunings. The only times he used Ostrich tuning in VU was at the final seconds of "Venus in Furs" and the whole of the song "All Tomorrow's Parties".

@@bradylibby4889 I actually do it before changing to new strings, that's when I used it, and there's one small problem, because the high 2 strings are tuned low it's a bit hard to play past the 8th fret, because any small movement will sharpen the note.
