This is why many parts of Japan is so silly. From their wagyu to their fruits, they have insanely expensive stuff. Don't get the wrong the quality is there but people will act like it's the next coming of Jesus just to justify spending $200 for a bunch of grapes of $120 for a few slices fat with a little bit of meat in between, although france is sort of guilty of something similar like with macrons and other fine foods but definitely not to the extent with Japan, and Frances cuisine is leagues better than Japanes.

They are selectively bred like most fruit you find in stores. It also requires workers, facilities, equipment, etc. to mass produce such fruit. They aren’t the fruit one finds from nature. That is why they aren’t free. Furthermore, in this case, culture plays a huge role. It’s easy for a Japanese person to understand why they would spend so much on these fruits, but most foreigners will not understand.

I understand a lot of people complaining about Japan and the cost of these fruits but its the level of care and sometimes technology or method that has been developed over generations that make these fruits so famous amd because the demand is so high, people still want to pay top dollar just for these fruits and are mostly used as important gifts because they are prestigious. This is why the price cannot be understood by foreigners but maybe if you’re lucky to try one it is a once in a lifetime thing
